Scite (https://scite.ai/) was founded by Josh Nicholson and Yuri Lazebnik and previously funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) [1, 2, 3]. The Scite database contains over 800 million citation statements [4] tagged by a machine learning algorithm as supporting, mentioning, or contrasting the findings of cited articles [5] and by their locations in the citing articles (introduction, results, methods, discussion, or other). Scite also provides a count of editorial notices for each article. Users can search the website and install plug-ins for browsers Chrome and Firefox and reference management tools such as Zotero. Additional tools include reports and dashboards, badges, and automated reference checks. Scite can be used by researchers to locate evidence and evaluate references; librarians to enhance research impact projects; publishers and editors to check reference lists of submissions [6, 7]; and journals, publishers, and databases to create context and showcase impact [4, 8, 9].  相似文献

Conclusion  Protecting a merchandising program by the given means of Law means safeguarding substantial investment for obtaining a certain Merchandising Property. Therefore protection should be found at a very early stage and has to be maintained with great care to avoid later conflicts and loss of money. Before starting a merchandising program four steps should be resolved:
1.  Find out what you want to merchandise. What has the potential?
2.  Find out who is the owner of that intellectual property.
3.  Protect the property against piracy.
4.  Safeguard your expenses by solid contracts.

Convergence: An investment perspective

Conclusion  Convergence is a very exciting model and one that holds, unforeseen opportunities. However in the current economic environment, the investment community is hesitant to recommend that communications companies devote many resources in that area. The convergence mode must prove that it can generate revenue and profits. Yet, it is limited to an advertising-supported model—a part of the communications industry that has struggled during the past, year due to the recession. The increased advertising revenue that would be generated by the convergence model is tainted—most likely taking advertising share away from the traditional media segments that are supporting the model. Tied to the convergence model is a high dependency on the Internet. Internet advertising is not local. In addition, financial data clearly illustrates that the Internet has caused profit margins to decrease substantially, something that the traditional media company supporting the convergence model can not allow to happen. Finally, FCC deregulation with regards to television station cap restrictions, cable system operators owning broadcasters in the same market, and cross ownership of newspapers and television stations in the same market, will most likely have a negative impact on the convergence model. If a communications company should decide to go forward with convergence, there are five rules that should be followed:
1.  Use personnel and technology efficiently
2.  Extend brand awareness of pre-existing communications products
3.  Offer cross-media advertising packages
4.  Return users to traditional media outlets
5.  BE PROFITABLE QUICKLY!39.
The essay is based on a presentation made by Dr. Kivijarv at convergece: The Tour, a four-day conference sponsored by The American Press Institute. The purpose of the conference is to analyze the various issues that communications companies should consider before attempting to build multimedia news operations that consolidate newspaper, television, wired cable, and/or Internet divisions in a specific market. Dr. Kivijarv's presentation occurred on the final day of the conference and spoke to the investment community's financial concerns. Veronis Suhler Stevenson publishes, two of the leading annual reports on the communications industry—the Communications Industry Forecast and the Communications Industry Report. A majority of the data used in the presentation and this essay come from those reports and Dr. Kivijarv, as the Director of Research & Publications at Veronis Suhler Stevenson, serves as the editor of the two reports.  相似文献

A comparison of analyses of the Scottish publishing industry carried out in 1992, 2002 and 2007 underscores the fragility of the sector within a small country within the English-language community. A number of indices reveal either stability or stagnation and the picture emerges of the remarkable tenacity of publishing in Scotland. Although there is already a significant and vital element of state support for publishing in Scotland, further intervention will be necessary to ensure fulfilment of its potential.

Still “Destined To Be Under-Read”? Access to Books for Visually Impaired Students in UK Higher Education

A questionnaire was circulated to librarians and learning support staff in all 109 UK universities asking how they were dealing with material only available in print, accessing electronic copies of books for print-disabled students and whether they felt a change in the law was required to make publishers take greater responsibility for accessibility issues. At the same time publishers’ policies were retrieved and an interview was conducted with a senior manager at JISC TechDis, the disabilities section of the Joint Information Systems Committee. Findings: While some publishers are going to considerable lengths to be helpful, others are not, and many learning support staff are struggling, either through lack of time or finance or both, to deliver the level of service they aspire to provide. An overwhelming majority of respondents to the questionnaire believe on grounds of cost and morals that there should be a change in the law, either by way of amendment to existing legislation or through the creation of a separate Act.

Many current retrieval models and scoring functions contain free parameters which need to be set—ideally, optimized. The process of optimization normally involves some training corpus of the usual document-query-relevance judgement type, and some choice of measure that is to be optimized. The paper proposes a way to think about the process of exploring the space of parameter values, and how moving around in this space might be expected to affect different measures. One result, concerning local optima, is demonstrated for a range of rank-based evaluation measures.

Bestsellers in the British Book Industry 1998–2005

Bestsellers are an important commercial and social phenomenon. The paper defines and analyses bestsellers in the UK between 1998 and 2005, following on earlier work by one of the authors. It is concluded that there is a core groups of genres and authors dominating the bestseller lists, although there are also unexpected successes, especially at Christmas time. There is some evidence of long-term changes in taste, including the apparent decline in the popularity of romantic fiction and the growth of fantasy literature. It is also shown that media and movie adaptations and spin-offs are now an integral part of this dimension of the book industry.

Multilingual phrase-based concordance generation in real-time

We present software that generates phrase-based concordances in real-time based on Internet searching. When a user enters a string of words for which he wants to find concordances, the system sends this string as a query to a search engine and obtains search results for the string. The concordances are extracted by performing statistical analysis on search results and then fed back to the user. Unlike existing tools, this concordance consultation tool is language-independent, so concordances can be obtained even in a language for which there are no well-established analytical methods. Our evaluation has revealed that concordances can be obtained more effectively than by only using a search engine directly.
