Inspired by Eugene Nida's dynamic equivalence theory, this thesis takes the translation of Samul Ullman's work Youth as a case study. It explores the three translated versions of Mrs.Zhang Aiqing,Mr.Huang Ren and Mr.Xu Hanlin respectively. These versions are analyzed at the levels of lexicology, syntax, rhetoric, semasiology and style. Then it points out that the same effect on the target language readers are as the original text has done on the source language readers,in other words,it proves the efficiency of dynamic equivalence in the translation of Youth.  相似文献

Eugene A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory is regarded as one of the most useful criteria. In this thesis, the author will make a research on the translation of idioms in Yu Hua’s novel Brothers from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory, which examines whether the English version achieves the equivalence of response between the source language readers and the target language readers.  相似文献

The Relevance Theory put forward by Sperber and Wilson not only gives rise to a new research on pragmatics, but also provides a new theoretic foundation for other disciplines. Gutt applies the theory to translation and gives a relevance-theoretic account of translation. The relevance-theoretic communicative model provides rational explanation for existence of the implicit information. The appropri ate treatment of the implicit information is consistent with readers’ cognitive environment and expectation. Human communication de pends on not only the text, but also the inferential context. The adequate contextual effect is derived from the correct judgment and infer ence of the implicit information in communication. Therefore, the translator should match the original author’ s intention with target text readers’ expectation to make sure that they yield adequate contextual effects with appropriate processing efforts. Implicitness is one of the features of Shakespeare’ s works. It is more demanding for the translators to catch and transfer to the target readers the implicit information. Zhu Shenghao and Liang Shiqiu, the two famous translators adopt different translation strategies to deal with the implicit information in the works.  相似文献

This paper analyses one of Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales The Nightinggale and the Rose translated by Lin Huiyin from the angle of Dynamic Equivalence theory.Equivalence can be functional equivalence, semantic equivalence, structure equivalence.First,it explains the theoretical meaning of Dynamic Equivalence put forward by Eugene A.Nida in 1964 year; Then,it is interpretation of the original text and the analysis of the translating version from the three aspects in syntactic structure equivalence including English hypotaxis and Chinese parataxis in discourse;rhetoric style equivalence inluding simile, personification and dynamic equivalence of translation strategy: domestica tion and foreignization.  相似文献

Eugene Nida was a linguist who developed the dynamic-equivalence translation theory. As a comparative literature and transla tion scholar from a younger generation,Edwin Gentzler examines the main points of Nida’s translation theory from a deconstructionist perspective and challenges Nida’s authority as a pioneer in the fields of translation theory. The paper analyzes Gentzler’s criticism against Nida’s work.  相似文献

Lefevere’s rewriting theory states that translation is a rewriting of the original text, all rewritings reflect a certain ideology and a poetics and as such manipulate literature to function in a given society. Based on this theory, some translation examples are illustrated and analyzed here to show that political and aesthetic ideology will inevitably manipulate translation in different aspects.  相似文献

Chinese scholar Qiu Maoru points out that the aim of translation is,partly,to establish cultural equivalence between the source text and the target text.He also argues that whether or how to establish cultural equivalence depends on the following four factors:1) the type of source text;2) the significance of cultural flavor in the source text;3) the purpose of translation;4) the type of readers of the target text. This theory provides a good perspective for the C-E translation of cultural information in Tourist Publicity Materials.Under the guidance of this theory, this paper attempts to explore the methods of establishing cultural equivalence in translation of Tourist Publicity Materials.  相似文献

The functonal approach, with its focuses on the function or functions of texts and translation, has played a mjor role in the development of translation studies.Despite its major contributions, the approach also involves some inherent limitations. This paper discusses the functionalist approach in depth.By analyzing the ideas of major functionalists,i.e.Reiss’s text type and language function,Holz-Manttari’s model of translation action,Vermeer’s Skopos theory and Nord’s explanation of functionalist approaches, the paper provides a critical review of this approach, aiming for a better understanding of this approach.  相似文献

Equivalence in translation was first put forward by Firth. It has been the nuclear topic of translation studies in western countries."Functional equivalence", Eugene Nida’s key notion of translation theories, advocated the receptor-oriented translation standard. Through the contrastive study between Xi Youji and its English version Journey to the West, the content focuses on the translation of the verbal predicates and aims at studying the application of transitivity theory into Chinese-English translation and finding out the improved translations of Chinese and English examples of different processes. Due to limited article, this paper only discusses three of six processes in the concrete context and provides new translations for the questioned ones. Finally, the last part summarizes that the functional equivalence can be achieved when verbs referring to process of action share the same semantic attribute with the Chinese originals, so the English version of Xi Youji should be further perfected according to transitivity theory.  相似文献

Since the main purposes of translation lies in expressing to the target readers both the message and the aesthetic value of the source text and making the readers ideologically inspired and aesthetically entertained,Lin Yutang conclusively sum up that the aesthetic criteria in translation should be faithfulness, expressiveness and beauty throughout his translation practices. This thesis mainly focus on the aesthetic criteria of Lin’s translation as well as the aesthetic reproduction in his translation which illustrates the unity reached in Lin’s translation in terms of both the aesthetic features and the loyalty to the meaning.  相似文献

Alice Walker is one of the prominent American writers in American women’s literature and black literature in 1950s-1960s. Everyday Use is regarded as Alice Walker’s best-written short story. The prevailing opinion among the critics about this story is that Dee is the traitor of black American’s cultural heritage, and the mother and Maggie are the hope of true value of the African Americans’ tradition and heritage; however, after considering the historical and cultural background of the story, we may safely come to the conclusion that Dee actually took the first step toward the awakening of self-consciousness of the African Americans women.  相似文献
