Objective:The researchers used the flipped classroom model to develop and conduct a systematic review course for librarians.Setting:The research took place at an academic health sciences library.Method:A team of informationists developed and conducted a pilot course. Assessment informed changes to both course components; a second course addressed gaps in the pilot.Conclusion:The flipped classroom model can be successful in developing and implementing a course that is well rated by students.  相似文献

Objective:The study tested the efficacy of providing distance learning with real-time videoconferencing to broaden high school student knowledge of health careers.Methods:A pilot program was tried out and extended over ten years to include other schools in four different time zones and the National Library of Medicine. Survey results, site visits, and continued school participation were used as effectiveness indicators. Student ratings, site visits, and ongoing discussions were used to evaluate critical factors in the program.Results:Nine program factors contributed to success.Conclusions:Synchronous communication can be effective for outreach to special populations given appropriate infrastructure, technology, program design, and implementation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This conference report describes the challenges arising from the growth of the e-book market and explores how a mix of proprietary and open source systems can be used to manage e-book collections. The author uses an analogy of building with Legos to evoke an interlocking approach to e-book management. The discussion addresses functionality and pain points of mainstream, commercial systems and explores the ways that open source tools can be used alongside traditional software to create a more full-featured environment.  相似文献

Objectives:Access to high-quality information improves the quality of patient care, but lack of time and sufficient skills in information seeking can prevent access to information by clinicians. To solve this problem, clinical informationists can provide high-quality, filtered information for clinical team members. This study identified the core competencies that clinical informationists need to effectively fulfill their roles on clinical teams.Methods:Participants were selected purposefully from clinicians and medical librarians. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.Results:The authors identified six competencies—communication, research, education and training, domain knowledge, information services, and technology—which together were used to develop a “CREDIT” model of core competencies for clinical informationists.Conclusions:The CREDIT model can be used as criteria for evaluating the performance of clinical informationists as well as for developing and assessing clinical informationist educational programs and curriculums.  相似文献

Abstract

The authors describe the application of TV holography, also known as electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI), to the examination of wall paintings. The equipment usesfibre-optic illumination and a solid-state camera connected to a computer. Images made after the wall painting has been warmed slightly with an infrared lamp are compared with reference images; differences in the speckle pattern can be used to identify cracks and subsurface detachments. The system is robust and portable, allowing it to be used for the in situ investigation of wall paintings, including those exposed externally. It can also be used to monitor the condition of the work of art over time and to evaluate the success of any treatment.  相似文献

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the use of web-based information services in university libraries in Kerala, India.

Design/methodology/approach: A survey method was used for the collection of data. The questionnaire method was used to collect data for the study. The study was conducted among the research scholars of four selected universities in Kerala, India.

Findings: This study has analyzed the services and resources in the libraries which are provided through the medium of the internet and also the usage patterns of web information services by the scholars of the selected universities. The analysis reveals that most of the university libraries have implemented web-based information services. However, the extent of usage is not to the expected level and this is due to the lack of sufficient awareness about the usage methods of web resources and services. With the help of proper user education and training programs, the present situation can be ameliorated. The findings of this study can be helpful to the authorities to improve the services in the libraries.

Originality/value: Proper use of library resources is essential for scholars to bring forth productive research outputs. This study provides recommendations for enhancing web-based services in university libraries in Kerala to provide better services to the users.  相似文献

No other profession is so firmly rooted in historical precedent as the law. Rare law books can be used to promote a knowledge of the history of the law, the history of legal practice, the development of legal writing, the history of legal education, and the history and spread of legal printing and publishing. Since law books cover the entire spectrum of human activity, they can also be used to study any aspect of human thought or behavior that has been the subject of legislation or litigation. Computer technology has progressed to the point where desktop videoconferencing with personal computers and remote application sharing software can be employed in remote reference library service. These technologies can be used to provide personal and effective distant reference and library instruction services to library users, in addition to such traditional methods as mail, telephone, and e-mail service. This article presents scenarios in which videoconferencing and remote applications sharing software can be used in distant reference service. Abstract

As data services gain momentum in academic libraries, liaison librarians are expected to be part of the education force for data literacy. Nonetheless, due to the broad scope of data literacy, training librarians to improve data-related skills can be challenging. This article used consultation statistics to identify tools and resources employed to solve users’ data questions. The results offered insights into users’ data needs and provided librarians with a clear direction to further develop data skills in their assigned disciplines. Abstract

The Perkin-Elmer infrared microspectrometer consists of a basic, double-beam spectrometer M 13, on which a microscopical system model 85 with reflecting optics can be mounted. The microspectrometer can be used only for single-beam measurements. Pressed in a KBr-pellet, with a radius of 0·5 mm, the amount of sample of a pure material can be decreased to 2 μg. A sample with different paint-layers can be embedded in a wax with little infrared absorption and can be cut with the help of a microtome in slices with a thickness of 20 μ. Every paint-layer can be measured separately by means of an adjustable diaphragm in the microscope. A sample area of 37·5 ? 500 μ is sufficient to obtain an identifiable spectrum.  相似文献

The Mantis project is developing a toolkit for building Web-based cataloging systems with arbitrary metadata definitions and interfaces. By requiring that end users have only standard Web browsers, the project is aimed at lowering the barriers to acceptance, distribution, and use of these tools.
