This paper considers what it is about violent video games that leads one reasonably minded person to declare “That is immoral” while another denies it. Three interpretations of video game content are discussed: reductionist, narrow, and broad. It is argued that a broad interpretation is required for a moral objection to be justified. It is further argued that understanding the meaning of moral utterances—like “x is immoral”—is important to an understanding of why there is a lack of moral consensus when it comes to the content of violent video games. Constructive ecumenical expressivism is presented as a means of explaining what it is that we are doing when we make moral pronouncements and why, when it comes to video game content, differing moral attitudes abound. Constructive ecumenical expressivism is also presented as a means of illuminating what would be required for moral consensus to be achieved.  相似文献

This paper solves a data-driven control problem for a flow-based distribution network with two objectives: a resource allocation and a fair distribution of costs. These objectives represent both cooperation and competition directions. It is proposed a solution that combines either a centralized or distributed cooperative game approach using the Shapley value to determine a proper partitioning of the system and a fair communication cost distribution. On the other hand, a decentralized non-cooperative game approach computing the Nash equilibrium is used to achieve the control objective of the resource allocation under a non-complete information topology. Furthermore, an invariant-set property is presented and the closed-loop system stability is analyzed for the non-cooperative game approach. Another contribution regarding the cooperative game approach is an alternative way to compute the Shapley value for the proposed specific characteristic function. Unlike the classical cooperative-games approach, which has a limited application due to the combinatorial explosion issues, the alternative method allows calculating the Shapley value in polynomial time and hence can be applied to large-scale problems.  相似文献

Population admixture results in genome-wide combinations of genetic variants derived from different ancestral populations of distinct ancestry, thus providing a unique opportunity for understanding the genetic determinants of phenotypic variation in humans. Here, we used whole-genome sequencing of 92 individuals with high coverage (30–60×) to systematically investigate genomic diversity in the Uyghurs living in Xinjiang, China (XJU), an admixed population of both European-like and East-Asian-like ancestry. The XJU population shows greater genetic diversity, especially a higher proportion of rare variants, compared with their ancestral source populations, corresponding to greater phenotypic diversity of XJU. Admixture-induced functional variants in EDAR were associated with the diversity of facial morphology in XJU. Interestingly, the interaction of functional variants between SLC24A5 and OCA2 likely influences the diversity of skin pigmentation. Notably, selection has seemingly been relaxed or canceled in several genes with significantly biased ancestry, such as HERC2OCA2. Moreover, signatures of post-admixture adaptation in XJU were identified, including genes related to metabolism (e.g. CYP2D6), digestion (e.g. COL11A1), olfactory perception (e.g. ANO2) and immunity (e.g. HLA). Our results demonstrated population admixture as a driving force, locally or globally, in shaping human genetic and phenotypic diversity as well as in adaptive evolution.  相似文献

This paper tackles the problem of a two-player differential game affected by matched uncertainties with only the output measurement available for each player. We suggest a state estimation based on the so-called algebraic hierarchical observer for each player in order to design the Nash equilibrium strategies based on such estimation. At the same time, the use of an output integral sliding mode term (also based on the estimation processes) for the Nash strategies robustification for both players ensures the compensation of the matched uncertainties. A simulation example shows the feasibility of this approach in a magnetic levitator problem.  相似文献

This study investigates four different sourcing strategies employed by firms in order to successfully deal with a new architectural innovation hitting the market. The four sourcing approaches reflect the varying degrees of internalization of component design and manufacturing: make, in-house design, long-term supplier, and new supplier, where make implies the highest and new supplier the lowest degree of internalization of the firm’s component sourcing in a spectrum. Comparing and contrasting the innovation performance of the four sourcing approaches in the pre- and post-dominant design eras, we suggest theoretical implications for the critical path of strategic sourcing decisions over time for a new architectural innovation. By doing so, we suggest an integrated framework of stage-contingent sourcing strategies and provide the associated empirical results that demonstrate normative strategic guidance for managers.  相似文献

With increasing popularity of the Internet and tremendous amount of on-line text, automatic document classification is important for organizing huge amounts of data. Readers can know the subject of many document fields by reading only some specific Field Association (FA) words. Document fields can be decided efficiently if there are many FA words and if the frequency rate is high. This paper proposes a method for automatically building new FA words. A WWW search engine is used to extract FA word candidates from document corpora. New FA word candidates in each field are automatically compared with previously determined FA words. Then new FA words are appended to an FA word dictionary. From the experiential results, our new system can automatically appended around 44% of new FA words to the existence FA word dictionary. Moreover, the concentration ratio 0.9 is also effective for extracting relevant FA words that needed for the system design to build FA words automatically.  相似文献

Human skeleton, as a compact representation of action, has attracted numerous research attentions in recent years. However, skeletal data is too sparse to fully characterize fine-grained human motions, especially for hand/finger motions with subtle local movements. Besides, without containing any information of interacted objects, skeleton is hard to identify human–object interaction actions accurately. Hence, many action recognition approaches that purely rely on skeletal data have met a bottleneck in identifying such kind of actions. In this paper, we propose an Informed Patch Enhanced HyperGraph Convolutional Network that jointly employs human pose skeleton and informed visual patches for multi-modal feature learning. Specifically, we extract five informed visual patches around head, left hand, right hand, left foot and right foot joints as the complementary visual graph vertices. These patches often exhibit many action-related semantic information, like facial expressions, hand gestures, and interacted objects with hands or feet, which can compensate the deficiency of skeletal data. This hybrid scheme can boost the performance while keeping the computation and memory load low since only five extra vertices are appended to the original graph. Evaluation on two widely used large-scale datasets for skeleton-based action recognition demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to the state-of-the-art methods. Significant accuracy improvements are reported using X-Sub protocol on NTU RGB+D 120 dataset.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider leader–follower decentralized optimal control for a hexarotor group with one leader and large population followers. Our hexarotor is modeled based on the quaternion framework to resolve singularity of the rotation matrix represented by Euler angles, and has 6-DoF due to six tilted propellers, which allows to control its translation and attitude simultaneously. In our problem setup, the leader hexarotor is coupled with the follower hexarotors through the followers’ average behavior (mean field), and the followers are coupled with each other through their average behavior and the leader’s arbitrary control. By using the mean field Stackelberg game framework, we obtain a set of decentralized optimal controls for the leader and N follower hexarotors when N is arbitrarily large, where each control is a function of its local information. We show that the corresponding decentralized optimal controls constitute an ϵ-Stackelberg equilibrium for the leader and N followers, where ϵ → 0 as N → ∞. Through simulations with two different operating scenarios, we show that the leader–follower hexarotors follow their desired position and attitude references, and the followers are controlled by the leader while effectively tracking their approximated average behavior. Furthermore, we show the nonsingularity and 6-DoF control performance of the leader–follower hexarotor group due to the novel modeling technique of the hexarotor presented in the paper.  相似文献

Privacy has raised considerable concerns recently, especially with the advent of information explosion and numerous data mining techniques to explore the information inside large volumes of data. These data are often collected and stored across different institutions (banks, hospitals, etc.), or termed cross-silo. In this context, cross-silo federated learning has become prominent to tackle the privacy issues, where only model updates will be transmitted from institutions to servers without revealing institutions’ private information. In this paper, we propose a cross-silo federated XGBoost approach to solve the federated anomaly detection problem, which aims to identify abnormalities from extremely unbalanced datasets (e.g., credit card fraud detection) and can be considered a special classification problem. We design two privacy-preserving mechanisms that are tailored to the federated XGBoost: anonymity based data aggregation and local differential privacy. In the anonymity based data aggregation scenario, we cluster data into different groups and using a cluster-level data feature to train the model. In the local differential privacy scenario, we design a federated XGBoost framework by incorporate differential privacy in parameter transmission. Our experimental results over two datasets show the effectiveness of our proposed schemes compared with existing methods.  相似文献

It is shown that a theorem on essential gyrators presented by Rosenberg (1) and used in (2) claims too much and that the internal structure of the multiport elements of the system must be studied in order to be able to decide whether a gyrator is essentially contained in the system or not. Bond graph terminology is used (3)(6) and a new theorem is formulated, which provides an algorithm to decide on the essentiality of a gyrator by immediate inspection of the bond graph.As a side-result of this approach some new methods for junction structure simplification can be formulated. The significance of junction 3-ports for the concept of the essential gyrator is elaborated by providing equivalence rules for all kinds of junction 3-ports and introducing a unit essential junction 3-port (ES) and a unit non-essential junction 3-port (NES). Finally the hydraulic junction is treated as an example of a physical non-potential junction, i.e. a junction congruent with an ES.  相似文献

BackgroundDefense-related anti-oxidative response is a vital defense mechanism of plants against pathogen invasion. Ralstonia solanacearum is an important phytopathogen. Bacterial wilt caused by R. solanacearum is the most destructive disease and causes severe losses in patchouli, an important aromatic and medicinal plant in Southeast Asia. The present study evaluated the defense response of patchouli inoculated with virulent R. solanacearum.ResultsResults showed that the basic enzymatic activities differed not only between the leaves and stems but also between the upper and lower parts of the same organ of patchouli. POD, SOD, PPO, and PAL enzymatic activities were significantly elevated in leaves and stems from patchouli inoculated with R. solanacearum compared to those in control. The variation magnitude and rate of POD, PPO, and PAL activities were more obvious than those of SOD in patchouli inoculated with R. solanacearum. PAGE isoenzymatic analysis showed that there were one new POD band and two new SOD bands elicited, and at least two isoformic POD bands and two SOD bands were observably intensified compared to the corresponding control.ConclusionOur results suggest that not only defense-related enzymatic activities were elevated but also the new isoenzymatic isoforms were induced in patchouli inoculated with R. solanacearum.  相似文献

BackgroundMaize is one of the most important crops worldwide and has been a target of nuclear-based transformation biotechnology to improve it and satisfy the food demand of the ever-growing global population. However, the maize plastid transformation has not been accomplished due to the recalcitrant condition of the crop.ResultsIn this study, we constructed two different vectors with homologous recombination sequences from maize (Zea mays var. LPC13) and grass (Bouteloua gracilis var. ex Steud) (pZmcpGFP and pBgcpGFP, respectively). Both vectors were designed to integrate into rrn23S/rrn16S from an inverted repeat region in the chloroplast genome. Moreover, the vector had the mgfp5 gene driven by Prrn, a leader sequence of the atpB gene and a terminator sequence from the rbcL gene. Also, constructs have an hph gene as a selection marker gene driven by Prrn, a leader sequence from rbcL gene and a terminator sequence from the rbcL gene. Explants of maize, tobacco and Escherichia coli cells were transformed with both vectors to evaluate the transitory expression–an exhibition of green and red fluorescent light under epifluorescence microscopy. These results showed that both vectors were expressed; the reporter gene in all three organisms confirmed the capacity of the vectors to express genes in the cell compartments.ConclusionsThis paper is the first report of transient expression of GFP in maize embryos and offers new information for genetically improving recalcitrant crops; it also opens new possibilities for the improvement in maize chloroplast transformation with these vectors.How to cite: Arévalo-Gallegos S, Varela-Rodríguez H, Lugo-Aguilar H, et al. The majority of cancer deaths are linked to tumor spread, or metastasis, but 3D in vitro metastasis models relevant to the tumor microenvironment (including interstitial fluid flow) remain an area of unmet need. Microfluidics allows us to introduce controlled flow to an in vitro cancer model to better understand the relationship between flow and metastasis. Here, we report new hybrid spheroid-on-chip in vitro models for the impact of interstitial fluid flow on cancer spread. We designed a series of reusable glass microfluidic devices to contain one spheroid in a microwell under continuous perfusion culture. Spheroids derived from established cancer cell lines were perfused with complete media at a flow rate relevant to tumor interstitial fluid flow. Spheroid viability and migratory/invasive capabilities were maintained on-chip when compared to off-chip static conditions. Importantly, using flow conditions modeled in vitro, we are the first to report flow-induced secretion of pro-metastatic factors, in this case cytokines vascular endothelial growth factor and interleukin 6. In summary, we have developed a new, streamlined spheroid-on-chip in vitro model that represents a feasible in vitro alternative to conventional murine in vivo metastasis assays, including complex tumor environmental factors, such as interstitial fluid flow, extracellular matrices, and using 3D models to model nutrient and oxygen gradients. Our device, therefore, constitutes a robust alternative to in vivo early-metastasis models for determination of novel metastasis biomarkers as well as evaluation of therapeutically relevant molecular targets not possible in in vivo murine models.  相似文献

A new classification of RLC reciprocal n-ports in normal and non-normal systems is proposed. The normal systems exhibit the most natural generalization of the scalar RLC one-ports; they admit canonic synthesis representations.Let R, L and C be open loop parameters of an RLC reciprocal n-port with m = n dynamically linearly independent loops. For a normal system R, L and C must commute pairwise. Alternatively, the Hermitian components of Z(s) shall commute. There exists a complete set of common orthonormal eigenvectors for R, L and C. With respect to this coordinate system the normal n-port admits a canonic structure.A normal n-port can be canonically synthesized by a unit R, L and C and an adequate supply of ideal transformers. Even though isoelectric focusing (IEF) is a very useful technique for sample concentration and separation, it is challenging to extract separated samples for further processing. Moreover, the continuous sample concentration and separation are not possible in the conventional IEF. To overcome these challenges, free flow IEF (FFIEF) is introduced in which a flow field is applied in the direction perpendicular to the applied electric field. In this study, a mathematical model is developed for FFIEF to understand the roles of flow and electric fields for efficient design of microfluidic chip for continuous separation of proteins from an initial well mixed solution. A finite volume based numerical scheme is implemented to simulate two dimensional FFIEF in a microfluidic chip. Simulation results indicate that a pH gradient forms as samples flow downstream and this pH profile agrees well with experimental results validating our model. In addition, our simulation results predict the experimental behavior of pI markers in a FFIEF microchip. This numerical model is used to predict the separation behavior of two proteins (serum albumin and cardiac troponin I) in a two-dimensional straight microchip. The effect of electric field is investigated for continuous separation of proteins. Moreover, a new channel design is presented to increase the separation resolution by introducing cross-stream flow velocity. Numerical results indicate that the separation resolution can be improved by three folds in this new design compare to the conventional straight channel design.  相似文献

The H control problem is investigated in this paper for a class of networked control systems (NCS) with time-varying delay and packet disordering. A new model is proposed to describe the packet disordering phenomenon and then converted into a parameter-uncertain system with multi-step delay. Based on the obtained system model, a sufficient condition for robust stability of the NCS is derived. Furthermore, an optimization problem with linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) constraints is formulated to design the state feedback H controller such that the closed-loop NCS is robust stable and has an optimal H disturbance attenuation level. Finally, two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

Motivated by recent dynamic output feedback passivation results, a new set-point control law is presented for an elastic joint robot when the velocity measurements are not available. The proposed methodology designs an additional dynamics with which the parallel-connected system is feedback passive. That is, the composite nonlinear robot system has relative degree one with a new output and its zero-dynamics subsystem becomes the virtual closed-loop system with a simple proportional-derivative (PD) control law. This approach provides an alternative way of replacing the role of the velocity measurements for the PD law. With the proposed control law, the transfer function of the additional system has the form of sG(s) with a strictly positive real (SPR) G(s). Robustness analysis is also given with regard to uncertainties on the robot parameters. The performance of the proposed control law is illustrated in the simulation studies of a manipulator with three revolute elastic joints.  相似文献
