Idioms are gems of a language which have been refined through ages of use. Idioms are thus always rich in cultural connotation and national flavor. Lots of cultural information is embedded in idioms. Language is a part of culture. Language is the important carrier of culture. Language and culture have close relationship with each other. The study of the relationship between language and culture has been considered a subject of great value. Owing to this, translation theorists and translators have put more attention to the cultural barriers that exist in translation. Therefore, translators have to better understand the relationship between language and culture and the relationship between culture and translation so as to render idioms from the SL into the TL faithfully and effectively.  相似文献

The article mainly focuses on Chinese and English idioms and their cultural differences. Idioms exist in both Chinese and English, and they have been used frequently for a long time. Furthermore, idioms are fixed phrases extracted from language over long time of usage. Although they are formed in short phrases, for example idioms known as "成语" in Chinese, which has only have four or eight letters, their meanings are exuberant and connotative. Therefore, the analysis of the idiom’s usage and the cultural differences it reflects is significant to every language learner and translator.  相似文献

Idioms are essence of a language and a kind of special and fixed phrases or short sentences in the long period of language use.Because animals have been considered as people’s best friends for hundreds of years, people adopt different species of animals as metaphors to express all their emotions. However, due to the different national characteristics between English and Chinese, such as geographical conditions and tradition so in most cases easterners and westerners have different attitudes and understanding towards same animals,of course, some animal idioms have the same meaning.  相似文献

This paper starts with the analysis of the relationship between culture, idioms and translation, and makes an investigation of cultural factors affecting idiom translation such as subjective and objective factors. Based on these analyses, the paper will propose the cultural translation principles and strategies focusing on cultural connotations of idioms in order to transfer the English idioms translation from the language level to the cultural level.  相似文献

Language is the reaction of history. Idioms are the carrier of culture and the essence of language. English idioms are the reflection of English social and cultural situation. Because of the different cultural context, when we translate English idioms we will produce ambiguities in Chinese ways. So this paper centers on the differences between English and Chinese. Then, I will point to some ambiguity errors. I want to draw some conclusion by analyzing several typical examples.  相似文献

习语是语言中的精华。习语翻译历来是有争议的一个问题。习语翻译具有灵活性。是单纯的习语翻译(离开具体语境和上下文的习语翻译),还是灵活的习语翻译(处于不同语境上下文、用法和文体的习语翻译)要视不同情况而定。一句话,要译翻译具有美感,主要靠译者在透彻理解原文的基础上,善于因情制宜、随机应变,巧作处理。  相似文献
