Politeness symbolizes human civilization,and is one of conduct codes of human beings.As a social activity,language use is subject to this code as well.Pragmatic vagueness is a common phenomenon in spoken discourse.Furthermore,it is an important strategy widely used in teachers’ spoken language.Based on the politeness principle,this thesis explores the pragmatic vagueness by analyzing teachers’ spoken discourse.Employing pragmatic vagueness in teacher’s spoken language can smooth the relationship between teachers and students,and help teachers gain foremost effect on the education to their students.  相似文献

Language teachers and researchers have shown high interest in providing effective classroom management. The purpose of this study is to explore successful classroom management from three aspects: effective time management in a classroom, effective teaching in small classes, and effective use of handouts for a lecture. The findings reveal that it is crucial for language teachers to deliver enough knowledge during the limited time. And then small class teaching is an inevitable trend that teachers should focus on. The euphemism is a phenomenon of language variation with different language varieties. And this phenomenon is closely related with social context. Register, as a concrete representation of context, especially its tenor of discourse, makes great influence on what kind of euphemism and what level of euphemism people will use to achieve effective communication. The purpose of this article is to develop a framework that can be used to describe and explain how mathematics teachers construct a multilingual classroom and the discourse practices being produced in a mathematics classroom. It conceptualizes the discourse practices used by mathematics teacher educators as they prepare student teachers to teach mathematics. The framework developed here is shaped by Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) drawn from Fairclough. This provides the theoretical and conceptual tools to examine the discourse practices of mathematics teacher educators and how the)' make available these discourse practices for student teachers to draw on. In broad terms, this article examines the discourse practices of the mathematics teacher educators and how they support the student teachers develop discourse practices relevant for teaching and learning school mathematics in multilingual classrooms. This article is broken down into several sections. The first section discusses what it means for student teachers to develop discourse practices for mathematics teaching. The second section provides an introduction to CDA, followed by its origins, key terms, and elements of Fairclough's CDA. Thereafter, the author outlines the strategies involved in doing CDA. The last section discusses why CDA is relevant to the mathematics classroom.  相似文献

Generally speaking,code-switching is a common phenomenon in language contact,both in bilingual and multilingual environment.It refers to circumstances in which a speaker uses two or more than two language varieties.Teacher code-switching,is a quite common occurrence in English classrooms.This study intends to investigate into Uyghur teachers’ code-switching in English classrooms.This research concludes that the teachers’ code-switching plays a complementary and facilitative part in English classrooms.It is necessary to switch from English to Chinese,English to Uyghur to explain grammar and usage of words,and classroom management.  相似文献
