The results of large-scale international assessments such as Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) have attracted a considerable attention worldwide and are often used by policy-makers to support educational policies. To ensure that the published results represent the actual population, these surveys go through a thorough scrutiny to ensure their validity. One important issue that may affect the results is the occurrence of different participation rates across groups with heterogeneous average student scores. In this study, we illustrate how problems of representativeness of the samples may be corrected by the use of post-stratified weights. We use the case of Portugal, a country where we uncover a meaningful difference between the actual population and the PISA samples in terms of the distribution of students per grade and track of studies. We show that after post-stratification, the temporal evolution of the PISA scores is quite different from the one reported. 相似文献

The underlying calculus assumption of Holland’s theory was tested in two samples of primary school students (N1 = 400 and N2 = 250) with an average age of 13.86 and 14.14 years, respectively. Both exploratory and confirmatory multidimensional scaling and Hubert and Arabie’s randomization test of hypothesized order relations were calculated. The circular spatial arrangement of RIASEC types was not confirmed in either of the two samples. The study discusses possible causes of the inappropriateness of using Holland’s model in an adolescent sample.

Values may be considered as generalized beliefs about what is or is not desirable and also as motives. The strength of a person＇s values may affect how much effort a person puts into an activity, how long a person persists at an activity, the way situations are construed, the affective responses that occur when an activity is undertaken unsuccessfully. Schwartz and Bilsky （1987, 1990） proposed that there are ten motivational types of values that could be derived from the three universal human requirements. Schwartz and Bilsky also specified sets of dynamic relation between the value types. The values that were incorporated into the value types were from the Schwartz Value Survey that contained 56 values covering a wide range of content. The value types proposed by Schwartz （1992）were： power, achievement, hedonism, stimulation, self-direction, universalism, benevolence, conformity, tradition and security. The results of the research that I am presenting refer to relations between value types preferred and accepted by young people and goals life, a temporal orientation, worries, some of personality traits. 相似文献
