This study examined the stress‐buffering role of social support on indicators of psychosocial functioning among a combined and split sample of ethnically diverse college students. Although high social support significantly moderated 2 relationships in the combined sample, high and low levels of social support significantly reduced the effect of stress on depressive symptoms of students of color. For White students, high social support moderated the effect of stress on protective behaviors. Implications for college counselors are discussed.  相似文献

This study investigated unique and shared effects of social support and cultural orientation on mental health indicators (depressive and anxiety symptoms, stress, and life satisfaction) of 896 college students. Results indicated that perceived social support predicted mental health variables and that cultural orientation variables (independent and interdependent self‐construal) moderated this association. Conclusions and counseling implications for university counselors are discussed on the basis of cultural orientation theory.  相似文献

This study investigated the relationship of depressive symptomatology to type of classroom placement in a sample of adolescents with learning disabilities who attended an urban public high school. Fifty-two students, half of whom were in self-contained classrooms and half of whom were in general education classrooms with resource room, self-rated their depressive symptoms. Their guidance counselors also rated these students' depressive symptoms. Self-ratings of depression did not differ depending on classroom placement. Guidance counselors rated students with learning disabilities who were in general education classrooms as more depressed than students placed in self-contained classes.  相似文献

School connectedness and classroom environment have both been strongly linked to depressive symptoms, but their interrelation is unclear. We tested whether school connectedness mediated the link between classroom environment and depressive symptoms. A sample of 504 Australian seventh‐ and eighth‐grade students completed the Classroom Environment Scale, Psychological Sense of School Membership scale, and Children's Depression Inventory, at three time points. Together, the classroom environment and school connectedness accounted for 41% to 45% of variance in concurrent depressive symptoms, and 14% of subsequent depressive symptoms with prior symptoms accounted for. Only a partial mediation was found, with both classroom environment and school connectedness continuing to contribute uniquely to the prediction of concurrent and subsequent depressive symptoms. These findings provide additional support for the idea that school‐based pathways to depressive symptoms are a complex interplay between environment and individual difference variables, necessitating individual and environmental school‐based interventions.  相似文献

The roles and responsibilities of community college counselors have altered over the last 40 years as a result of profound social, cultural, economic, and political changes. A compounding factor is the dramatic demographic shifts that have occurred across the United States. Although academic and career-related issues traditionally have been the cornerstones of the work of community college counselors, this too is changing. Reports of the escalating frequency and severity of mental health concerns of community college students have prompted counselors to increasingly emphasize personal counseling. This article summarizes some personal issues that counselors are now likely to encounter with community college students. Recommendations for community college counselors working with students experiencing personal difficulties are also included.  相似文献

目的本研究试图了解高校辅导员的职业倦怠的现状,探索改善高校辅导员的职业倦怠与减轻职业压力的有效途径和措施。方法采用高校辅导员职业倦怠程度调查问卷对80名辅导员进行问卷调查。结果:约有50%的辅导员有着不同程度的倦怠表现,已婚辅导员比未婚辅导员更容易产生职业倦怠(χ2(1,80)=10.208,p<0.001),随着工作时间的增加,职业倦怠的人数比例有上升趋势(χ2(1,80)=3.810,p>0.05),不同学历的辅导员,其职业倦怠情况没有显著差异。结论:高校辅导员的职业倦怠情况不容忽视,必须通过一系列措施改善高校辅导员职业倦怠的现状。  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate whether different levels of depressive symptoms in early adolescent boys and girls could be predicted on the basis of war experiences, perceived available social support (instrumental support, support to self-esteem, belonging and acceptance) and extraversion. METHODS: The sample consisted of 583 children ages 12 to 15 years; 283 children were displaced from different parts of Croatia for a period of approximately three and a half years. The following instruments were administered: Questionnaire on Children's Stressful and Traumatic War Experiences, Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale, Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, and Interpersonal Support Evaluation List. RESULTS: Regression analyses showed that more war experiences were related to more depressive symptoms for boys only. The greater extent of perceived available social support for boys (instrumental support, support to self-esteem, belonging and acceptance) related to fewer depressive symptoms. For girls, perceived instrumental support and self-esteem were related to fewer depressive symptoms. Predictors in the boys' sample accounted for 35% of the variance in the results on the depression scale, and 27% in the girls' sample. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that boys suffer more from the long-term effects of war than girls. In situations where children cannot be shielded from stressful events, such as war, a greater level of perceived social support is related to fewer depressive symptoms both for boys and girls in early adolescence.  相似文献

以半结构性访谈为主的研究发现,高职院校辅导员的爱情教育存在诸多困境,主要表现在:对爱情教育的地位认识不够;对爱情教育的特征认识不明;对爱情教育的策略认识不清;对爱情教育的功用认识不深。为此,辅导员应当从提高对大学生爱情教育的重视度,构建科学合理的大学生爱情教育课程,加强对大学生爱情心理的调查研究,强化校园文化的环境育人功能和建立立体式的学生教育模式等方面着力克服困境,开展科学的爱情教育。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to describe law students' psychological symptoms, assess the role of law school stress in students' symptoms, and suggest ways college counselors can help this population. More than half of the 316 participants displayed symptoms of depression and psychological distress, and nearly half showed symptoms of anxiety. Law school stressors significantly predicted students' symptoms. Workload, peers, and low instrumental support most impacted students, thus providing specific directions and implications for college counselors.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of counselors in providing validation for men of color in community colleges. Through protocol writing, 13 counselors from seven community colleges responded to open-ended questions asking them to reflect and describe strategies they employed when advising and counseling men of color. Thematic analysis using a combination of detailed, selective, and wholistic reading approaches, as described by van Manen (1990), was employed to identify themes reflecting different forms of validation. Findings from this study demonstrate the critical role of community college counselors as validating agents in affirming men of color as being capable of college success, helping them build confidence, affirming them as individuals, and providing opportunities for academic and personal development. 目的:了解高校学生辅导员的身心健康状况,为高校学生管理体系的人才培养提供心理学方面的依据.方法:使用SCL-90问卷进行测量,WJZ软件进行统计.结果:辅导员身心健康状况不容乐观,75%的人在各个方面有轻度症状;54.17%的人存在中度以上的问题,而16.67%的辅导员任一因子分≥4,存在严重心理问题的可能性.结论:辅导员整体身心健康状况不佳,需要进行多方位心理调适.  相似文献

Learning difficulties have been considered to be a symptom of childhood depression by some authors, whereas others have examined depression as a cause of cognitive difficulties, including learning disabilities (LD). This study examined the prevalence of depressive symptoms in a sample of public school elementary children aged 8 through 11, 37 boys and 16 girls, identified as LD by state standards. Of the sample of 53 children, 35.85% scored in the depressed range on the Children's Depression Inventory. Comparison of the children's self-reports and parents' reports of depressive symptoms in their children was not significant. Implications of the results are discussed relative to the role of school personnel and the assessment process in recognizing depressive symptoms in students with LD.  相似文献

国家从政策层面明确高校辅导员兼顾学校教师与管理干部的双重身份,实现双线晋升,这有助于他们更加明确具体岗位的职业能力要求,增加了他们职业晋升与职务评聘的选择。与此同时,双重身份的确立也加剧了高校辅导员内在的角色紧张,弱化了他们晋升发展的优势,削弱了他们的职业归属感。相关职能部门应该从明确高校辅导员的主体角色、实行教师职称单列评聘、建立岗位职级制度、推行岗位津贴制度等方面着手,有效破解双重身份视角下高校辅导员晋升发展面临的难题。  相似文献

Changes in students’ depressive symptoms during the course of treatment at college counseling centers were examined by sexual orientation. In Study 1, results showed that depressive symptoms decreased similarly across sexual orientation groups during the course of treatment. In Study 2, family support did not moderate the relationship between pre‐ and posttreatment depressive symptoms but had a direct effect on posttreatment depressive symptoms for students questioning their sexual identity.
