The authors studied a course in which an instructor allowed individuals at a distance to participate. Although these students were not formally enrolled in the university where the class took place, the instructor gave them full access to all course materials and encouraged them to complete course assignments. The authors examined the time and technical proficiency required to involve learners at a distance. We surveyed these learners to determine their perceptions of the course and examined their work. Learners at a distance reported receiving some benefit from the course, particularly in terms of learner–content interaction. We surveyed students in the face‐to‐face classroom to determine whether having students participating at a distance in the same class affected their perception of the course. They reported no impact. The implications and limitations of these results are discussed. 相似文献

However, one may ask whether students are familiar with the effects of adding a third observation into this data set. What is the role of the teacher in curriculum research? This question was put individually to a number of teachers in California who had participated in a research project designed to evaluate new approaches for improving communication or language/thinking skills of children in the elementary school. This report presents their combined opinions and comments as regards some of the successes and pitfalls of attempted ‘curriculum reform’. The specific curriculum research involved in this study concerned the need (possibly world-wide?) to give school-children more opportunity to express them-selves and to interact with their equals during the process of problem-solving. The project was designed to help teachers develop skills as ‘discussion leaders’ and ‘question askers’ while presenting situations containing human problems for which there exist no ‘correct’ strategies. 相似文献

In spite of the efforts of numerous organizations and individuals to offer mother-friendly birth information and care in the United States, the nation remains a highly technical, low-touch birth culture with a decline in positive maternal-fetal outcomes. A number of organizations and individuals came together to form the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services and to create the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). The MFCI is a wellness model of maternity care that offers 10 evidence-based steps of care that will improve birth outcomes and reduce costs. Birth educators can use this self-assessment tool to provide the same evidence-based information. 相似文献

The first step in publishing a college textbook is usually the submission of a proposal. Currently, textbook publishers are cutting back the number of books they are contracting, but over-the-transom proposals continue to flood editors' desks. Very few proposals are properly prepared since few would-be authors are aware of the precise information a publisher needs. This article suggests both guidelines for a good proposal, as well as some additional hints for textbook publication.

Résumé La première phase lors de la publication d'un manuel de collège est normalement de présenter une soumission. Pour le présent, les éditeurs de manuels sont en train de réduire le nombre de manuels qu'ils entreprennent de publier mais les soumissions spontanées continuent d'inonder les bureaux des éditeurs. Très peu de soumissions sont préparées correctement car peu d'auteurs prétendus sont au courant des renseignements précis dont un éditeur a besoin. Le présent article suggère des recommandations pour présenter des soumissions valables ainsi que des conseils additionnels sur la publication de manuels.
