Assessment reform is an indispensable component of school curriculum reform. The "English course guideline for primary and secondary school students" (2001) (Hereafter guidelines) advocates that assessment should stress on students, which means teachers, parents should pay more attention to students’ differentiae and their processes of study, but not only on the results they have got in the tests. As a result, portfolio, which has some advantages that accord the requirement of the new syllabus, is introduced as a new way of assessment, for it can help change the assessment system from quantity-oriented to quality-oriented. But unfortunately, portfolio assessment came across many difficulties in real practice. It needs some suggestions on portfolio application.  相似文献

Information is one of the important assets in today's society. Information and communication technologies (ICT) may be particularly important for students as one of the tools shaping global citizens. The objective of this study was to investigate the use of ICT by high school students (n=122) from a developing country, like Ukraine. The Global Citizenship Survey was used and modified for the purpose of this study (Lima, 2006). Initial analyses indicated that the majority of the students use computers at school at least once per week. However, most of the students do not use the Intemet at school on a weekly basis. At the same time, the majority of students from Ukraine have computers at home and more than half of students have the Internet access at home. A chi-square analysis revealed statistically significant gender differences in the use of computers and the lnternet.  相似文献

Grammar is an important aspect of English language pedagogy in China and is taught as a subject of study in Chinese primary and high schools. Despite studying grammar for several years, however, high school graduates find it difficult to express their ideas in English especially when they are asked to write essays at university. This article reports a study that investigates students' views regarding the study of grammar when contextualized to their writing courses. It was found that students appreciate contextualized study of grammar as opposed to isolated learning of grammar using memorization, drills, and practices. The study suggests that a shift in the aims and methods of teaching English in high schools is necessary if students' preferences, which are consistent with research literature in second language teaching, are to be taken into consideration.  相似文献

Individualized schoolwork and self-regulated learning has expanded in Sweden during the last decades. Such teaching methods affect the roles of teachers and students, and the demand for student responsibility increases. Upper secondary school in Sweden includes vocational and study preparation programmes, which both give general access to higher education. Since 2000 all students entering upper secondary school have to take a course called Project Work (100 credits). The preceding course Special Work (20 credits) was only part of the study preparation programmes. This expansion from 20 to 100 credits and from a few to all study programmes was a considerable change. The study is built on data from interviews with upper secondary school students about their approaches to Project Work, as an example of self-regulated learning practices. Qualitative analyse and classification is based on earlier developed categories, and to some extent tendencies in students' development over time are explored. The results throw light on the relationship between different types of projects, grades and students' approaches to Project Work. Special interest is given to approaches considered as problematic from an educational point of view. Socio-cultural aspects show some impact, although the students' difficulties turn out to be more of an educational challenge.  相似文献

Parents' and teachers' perceptions of students' general scholastic abilities, such as being able to complete their school work, retain what they learn, and achieve sufficiently compared to other students at their ages, were analyzed for how well they predict parents' forms of involvement in their children's education and teachers' forms of communication to parents. Data were collected from parents and teachers in two Title I, public middle schools in a large, urban city in the southwest. Parent involvement and teacher communication practices were measured using the "school and family partnerships survey". Parents' and teachers' perceptions of students' general scholastic abilities were measured using a teacher-rating version of the "perceived competence scale for children". Linear regression analyses revealed that parents' perceptions did not predict their involvement, nor did teachers' perceptions predict their amount of communication as reported by parents. Although parents' and teachers' perceptions did not predict involvement in this study, perceptions of children's general academic abilities should be further explored in relation to family-school partnerships. The results suggest that involvement in middle school occurs in ways distinctive from elementary school. Therefore, improved instruments are needed to more accurately measure parent involvement and teacher communication at grade levels beyond elementary school.  相似文献

The role of the high school has changed dramatically over the past century. It has evolved from an institution designed to serve only a few, privileged students to one that serves as a gateway - for all students- to both postsecondary education and the workplace. But as late as the 1940s, access to a high school education remained limited in many rural areas of the nation, and it wasn't until the civil-rights movement of the 1960s that the first generation of African Americans had universal access to a public high school education.[第一段]  相似文献

English reading,a key procedure of English learning and teaching in middle school,is an essential way of getting information from the globe and communicating with others. Therefore, efficient comprehension on reading materials will directly serve for accepting the information. And it is extremely important for middle school students to acquire certain reading ability. At present, great attention has been paid to the course of reading in the instruction of English by the Chinese Education Department. But middle school students’read ing ability is still much lower than the target they should reach because of a set of existing obstacles that prevent them from being effective English readers. What are these obstacles? How to break them down? This paper will first point out and then analyze the obstacles that af fect middle school students’reading ability from two aspects:linguistic obstacles(obstacles of lexicon, grammar and background knowl edge) and non-linguistic obstacles(obstacles of psychology, interest, skill, and habit). After demonstrating different obstacles, the paper also come up with some corresponding strategies in the hope of helping middle school students to be effective English readers.  相似文献

Laboratory work educates students about the "processes of science". But it is suggested that students' learning level is low because of limited application of science processes in their laboratory work. Extraction experiment was chosen as the topic since it allows students to apply many of their basic chemistry knowledge, and it can be readily to gain understanding of scientific proceses required for an investigation. This study has been carried out with 40 students who are in the first year of Science Teaching Division at Trakya University, Faculty of Education. These students were divided into two groups of the experimental group and the control group, each group containing 20 students. The students of the experimental group were given knowledge about basic scientific process skills, and a procedure in detail to follow was given. But the students of the control group was given a standard procedure. The students of both groups were asked about what and why they did while they were performing the laboratory investigation. We observed that the experimental group students used the basic process skills, understood the extraction experiment, and realized what and why they did from this activity better than the control group students. The control group students did not know why they did laboratory work and they tended to focus on completing the task rather than learning from it. We considered that the experience would be helpful for students to improve scientific process skills if the students successfully acquired procedural understanding. Students" scientific processskills will develop as long as they use the skills.  相似文献

In the United States, headmasters and teachers discipline studentsin several ways. The teacher often writes to or calls the students' parents. Some- times students have to stay at school for one hour. If a student behaves very badly, the headmaster can stop the student having classes. The student can't come to school for one, two or three days. MrLazares, the headmaster of a middle school in Ohio, did not like to dis- cipline his students in these ways. He thought if he didn't let the students come to school, they were happy. "A three-day holiday!" they thought.  相似文献
