ABSTRACT

Semantic Web ontology files can be flexibly programmed to delineate metadata relationships in machine-readable formats to create relational pathways for discovering resources both on and off the Internet. There is a global community of Semantic Web developers and users across a broad multi-disciplinary range of interests who create and share extensible open-source ontologies. In this article, the author will explore the functionality of Semantic Web techniques for representing the ontologies of relatedness through kinship that typically underpin Australian Indigenous knowledge systems, and investigate their potentials for meeting persistent demands among leading Australian Indigenous collections creators and users to be able to search and discover their hereditary knowledge resources in ways that reflect and reinforce their enduring cultural values, ways of knowing and rights-management concerns.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study analyzed the search results of four main Internet search engines on three newly created digital collections at Texas Tech University Libraries, in order to assess the search engine indexing on metadata and PDF files of digital items that are published in the institutional repository. The exploratory study found that only one search engine discovered PDF files, while the others only discovered metadata. The results of the study also suggested that metadata and PDF files can supplement each other to facilitate discoverability of the digital collections on search engines, and revealed some findings that are contradictory to conclusions in previous research.  相似文献

介绍一种仅仅依靠中国知网文献磁盘文件提取元数据的方法。根据已下载的CNKI文献提取元数据,构建个人文献信息数据库,进而能建立个人文献信息管理系统。虽然CNKI文献库没有提供外界的数据库访问接口,但是文献的元数据都以web页面的方式展现。通过分析与文献绑定的属性页面的结构,利用正则表达式提取文献元数据,可以将其批量导入到数据库中。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In 2016, the University of Utah's J. Willard Marriott Library migrated digital asset management systems from CONTENTdm, a vendor-provided solution from OCLC, to Solphal, a homegrown system utilizing several open source tools. During the migration, issues with metadata led to a large-scale metadata cleanup and standardization project, enhancing discovery in the new system. This article discusses the method used to determine which system would best meet the library's needs, methods for metadata migration, issues observed during migration, metadata management capabilities of the new system, and future plans for post-migration metadata cleanup and remediation to ensure that the metadata is consistent with best practices.  相似文献

Nearly every major publisher offers open access content of some sort, but open access metadata standards are non‐existent amongst content providers. Users, librarians, content providers, and technology vendors who offer OpenURL resolvers and discovery services all stand to benefit from standardized ways to indicate what content is open access and what is not. Additionally, all stakeholders would benefit from a standardized method by which one can ascertain what form of open access any content may be; indeed, there are many definitions of open access. There is ample evidence that every publisher handles their content metadata differently and this creates inefficiencies in the scholarly information supply chain and leads to user confusion. Many initiatives are currently working on solutions to these problems including the NISO KBART workgroup, NISO's Open Discovery Initiative, and NISO's very recently created Open Access Initiative. There are also pre‐existing concepts based on services, such as CrossRef's CrossMark service and discovery systems that hold promise with respect to open access content and metadata.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The University of South Florida Libraries house and provide access to a collection of cultural heritage and 3D digital models. In an effort to provide greater access to these collections, a linked data project has been implemented. A metadata schema for the 3D cultural heritage objects which uses linked data is an excellent way to share these collections with other repositories, thus gaining global exposure and access to these valuable resources. This article will share the process of building the 3D cultural heritage metadata model as well as an assessment of the model and recommendations for future linked data projects.  相似文献

Abstract

The use of the DDC in metadata offers unique opportunities for organizing and searching Web resources. In this paper, we describe CORC tools for applying and using the DDC as a metadata element. Both the CORC system and the DDC are benefiting from the inclusion of Dewey in the CORC project. CORC benefits from having integrated access to a rich classification system that can be used to organize its metadata; the DDC benefits from its inclusion in an easily adaptable Web-based system that facilitates the exploration of what a classification system can do in this new environment.  相似文献

只要是涉及资源集合搜索,现代检索系统一般都忽略了资源集合元数据的问题。而要揭示资源集合层次的信息,一种可选的方法是通过获得资源集合级和文献单元级的元数据,从而深刻理解它们之间的关系。介绍一个对资源集合与文献单元元数据关系提供分类逻辑框架的开发项目。这个逻辑构架支持:元数据规范的开发者定义元数据元素;元数据创建者描述对象;系统设计者实现应用系统的开发,该系统能够充分利用资源集合级元数据所带来的好处。介绍资源集合与文献单元元数据之间存在的三类关系实例:“属性/值传递”、“值传递”和“值约束”,表明即便是对于这些简单的例子,一个精确的公式除了要符合一阶谓词逻辑之外,还需要引入模态概念。这些公式也属于近期信息检索和本体评价方面的研究成果。  相似文献

The institutional repository (IR) can provide a system for digitizing print serials for online delivery and a way to archive and preserve serial content already available online. Organizing serial content in IRs varies based on the architecture of each repository. In this presentation, Kay Teel of the Metadata Department at Stanford University Libraries discussed different approaches IRs use to manage serial content. She gave examples illustrating the inconsistent treatment of serials in the Stanford Digital Repository (SDR) and described a conceptual model for serials in the SDR to provide an improved user experience finding and accessing digital serial content.  相似文献

介绍了如何在数字化图书馆系统中运用XML语言的方法。并且说明了XML语言的特性及它与HTML语言的区别。利用韩国虚拟图书馆和信息系统(VINIS)中的一个子系统——基于XML语言的元数据搜索的实验系统来演示XML用法。元数据检索系统包括两个模块:搜索模块和浏览模块。搜索模块允许对储存在Access文件中的元数据进行搜索并且可以用XML语言的形式显示搜索结果,浏览模块允许浏览以XMUXSL文件形式存在的元数据。文章最后讨论了如何在数字化图书馆中更有效的运用XML语言。  相似文献

OCLC术语服务是互操作领域的一个研究项目。术语服务可以理解为涉及各种类型知识组织资源(包括规范文档、主题词表系统、网络分类、分类表等)的Web服务。该项目的目标是通过在多个受控词表之间有选择地建立映射,帮助文献收藏机构为馆藏创建相互兼容的元数据,通过任何基于网络的元数据编辑器获取术语资源,实现对术语资源的一站式获取。我们可以借鉴OCLC的做法,对国内外词表问映射进行研究。表4。参考文献3。  相似文献

在分析PDF文件结构的基础上,解析PDF文件的内容流,并采用基于规则的匹配方法和基于格式的定位方法,自动抽取科技论文中的语义元数据信息。实验结果表明,上述方法对标题、作者等重要的语义元数据信息能够达到较好的抽取效果。  相似文献

Between institutional repositories and hosting journals, many libraries are becoming responsible for scholarly content in new ways. While Portable Document Formats (PDFs) are the most common formats today, the unique, local, serial content could be in a variety of formats. These items might be digitized text, born digital text, audio, video, images, or multimedia. This article discusses formats that will remain accessible through time (PDF/A, txt, xml) so that contents are not locked into proprietary formats. It will also discuss options for backing up items and associated metadata, including simple backups, off-site storage of files, Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS), Private LOCKSS Networks, and Portico. DRM既是内容流通领域的重要技术,也是确保同时满足内容的创作者、提供商、用户等不同角色需求这一复杂流通环境的必要技术。DRM的应用会部分妨碍用户获取内容,但因不当拷贝内容的事件持续发生,提供商针对各种问题被迫实施DRM强化技术。文章首先介绍早期的DRM;通过DVD应用案例概述DRM技术;阐述快速普及的手机移动设备的DRM标准,NpOMADRM;在存储介质的DRM方面,以SD卡为例介绍CPRM技术;有关DEM国际标准化活动,以MPED--21为中心案例,解说IPMP技术;在事实标准化活动案例中,列举业界主导型DRM,即Coral,给出其要点;最后,总结DRM的现状和未来。  相似文献
