Abstract

Nitroglycerin induces the so-called second window of protection (SWOP), which alleviates myocardial damage and stunning after ischaemia/reperfusion. To determine whether myocardial performance during exercise is improved in the second window of protection, we studied the haemodynamic responses of 12 trained and 11 sedentary individuals during a sequence of maximal tests on a cycle ergometer. A baseline test (basal test) was followed by a second effort performed during the second window of protection (exercise-SWOP test). Haemodynamics was also evaluated after pharmacologically induced SWOP 48 h after transdermal administration of 10 mg of nitroglycerin (pharmacologically induced SWOP test). The exercise-SWOP and pharmacologically induced SWOP tests were separated by a 1-week washout period. Endothelial-dependent vasodilatation after nitroglycerin pre-treatment was also assessed in five sedentary individuals to determine whether nitrate donors could affect vascular function. We found that nitroglycerin pre-treatment did not induce any improvement in haemodynamics in either trained or sedentary individuals, since maximum values of workload, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, myocardial contractility, and double product were similar between the exercise-SWOP and pharmacologically induced SWOP tests in both groups. Furthermore, nitroglycerin pre-treatment did not alter flow-mediated dilation during pharmacologically induced SWOP. Although nitroglycerin pre-treatment alleviates post-ischaemic myocardial stunning, our results suggest that it does not affect the myocardial performance of healthy individuals during exercise performed in the second window of protection, independently of the training status of the individuals. Moreover, nitroglycerin pre-treatment does not ameliorate endothelial function.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of melatonin administration on muscle glycogen concentration during recovery after exhaustive swimming exercise in sedentary and trained rats. Male Wistar rats were assigned to one of four groups: sedentary control (C), sedentary melatonin-injected (M), exercise-trained (T), and trained and melatonin-injected (MT) groups. Exercise-trained groups were subjected to six weeks of swimming exercise. All rats completed an exhaustive swimming exercise. Two daily subcutaneous injections of melatonin at a dose of 3 mg·kg?1 were given to the rats in the M and MT groups immediately after the exhaustive exercise. Plasma melatonin, glucose and lactate concentrations, and glycogen concentrations of the soleus and epitrochlearis muscle tissues were measured after exhaustive exercise. Plasma lactate concentration was significantly lower in the T and MT groups than in the C group. Plasma melatonin concentration was higher in the supplemented groups than in the C group. Plasma glucose concentration was significantly higher in the T and MT groups than in the C group. Both epitrochlearis and soleus muscle glycogen concentrations were higher in the trained groups than in the C group. In conclusion, although exercise training results in improvement in muscle glycogen, exogenous melatonin administration after exhaustive exercise did not restore the glycogen concentrations in fast- or slow-twitch muscle tissues.  相似文献

目的:了解有氧运动对肺动脉高压大鼠肺动脉血管舒张反应的影响。方法:8周大的雄性SD大鼠,随机分为4组,分别是常氧不运动组(N)、常氧运动组(EX)、肺动脉高压不运动组(H)、肺动脉高压运动组(HE)。将大鼠每天暴露在氧浓度为15.6%~16.1%的环境中8小时,每周7次,制作肺动脉高压模型。运动组分别进行8周每天1小时5天/周游泳训练,第9周分离出大鼠肺动脉,检测4组动脉环乙酰胆碱(Ach)诱导的内皮依赖性和硝普钠(SNP)诱导的非内皮依赖性舒张反应。结果:肺动脉高压组大鼠的肺动脉环的内皮依赖性血管舒张功能明显下降,动脉环经NO途径的最大舒张反应明显降低,有氧运动对肺动脉高压大鼠肺动脉的舒张功能有一定的改善作用,与肺动脉高压对照组及常氧运动组比较差异有统计学意义。结论:实验结果证实有氧运动对NO介导的血管舒张功能的有益调节作用,部分被低氧效应所抵消。长期低氧效应超过有氧运动对肺动脉血管的作用这个现象,很可能与NO途径受损有关。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of predicting the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2(max)) of sedentary men from sub-maximal VO2 values obtained during a perceptually regulated exercise test. Thirteen healthy, sedentary males aged 29-52 years completed five graded exercise tests on a cycle ergometer. The first and fifth test involved a graded exercise test to determine VO2(max). The two maximal graded exercise tests were separated by three sub-maximal graded exercise tests, perceptually regulated at 3-min RPE intensities of 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 on the Borg ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) scale, in that order. After confirmation that individual linear regression models provided the most appropriate fit to the data, the regression lines for the perceptual ranges 9-17, 9-15, and 11-17 were extrapolated to RPE 20 to predict VO2(max). There were no significant differences between VO2(max) values from the graded exercise tests (mean 43.9 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), s = 6.3) and predicted VO2(max) values for the perceptual ranges 9-17 (40.7 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), s = 2.2) and RPE 11-17 (42.5 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), s = 2.3) across the three trials. The predicted VO2(max) from the perceptual range 9-15 was significantly lower (P < 0.05) (37.7 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), s = 2.3). The intra-class correlation coefficients between actual and predicted VO2(max) for RPE 9-17 and RPE 11-17 across trials ranged from 0.80 to 0.87. Limits of agreement analysis on actual and predicted VO2 values (bias +/- 1.96 x S(diff)) were 3.4 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) (+/- 10.7), 2.4 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) (+/- 9.9), and 3.7 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) (+/- 12.8) (trials 1, 2, and 3, respectively) of RPE range 9-17. Results suggest that a sub-maximal, perceptually guided graded exercise test provides acceptable estimates of VO2(max) in young to middle-aged sedentary males.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a single bout of endurance exercise on subsequent strength performance. Eight males with a long history of resistance training performed isokinetic, isometric and isotonic leg extension strength tests 8 and 32 h after 50 min of cycle ergometry at 70-110% of critical power. The participants also completed a control condition in which no cycling was performed. Plasma lactate and ammonia were measured before and immediately after each strength test. Isokinetic, isometric and isotonic leg extension torques were not significantly different 8 or 32 h after endurance exercise compared with the control condition ( P > 0.05). A large (50.3%), but not statistically significant, increase in plasma ammonia was evident during the strength tests performed 8 h after endurance exercise, while a significant ( P ? 0.05) increase in ammonia was also seen 32 h after endurance exercise. No significant changes in plasma ammonia were evident in the control condition. Our results suggest that leg extension strength was not compromised by an earlier bout of endurance cycling. However, metabolic activity during the strength tests might have been altered by the preceding bout of endurance exercise.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to determine changes in sedentary behaviour in response to extensive aerobic exercise training. Participants included adults who self-selected to run a marathon. Sedentary behaviour, total activity counts and physical activity (PA) intensity were assessed (Actigraph GT3X) for seven consecutive days during seven assessment periods (?3, ?2, and ?1 month prior to the marathon, within 2 weeks of the marathon, and +1, +2, and +3 months after the marathon). Models were fitted with multiple imputation data using the STATA mi module. Random intercept generalized least squares (GLS) regression models were used to determine change in sedentary behaviour with seven waves of repeated measures. Results: Twenty-three individuals (mean?±?Sx: 34.4?±?2.1y, 23.0?±?1.9% fat, 15 women, 8 men) completed the study. Marathon finishing times ranged from 185 to 344 minutes (253.2?±?9.6 minutes). Total counts in the vertical axis were 1,729,414 lower one month after the race, compared with two months prior to the race (peak training). Furthermore, counts per minute decreased by 252.7 counts·minute?1 during that same time period. Daily sedentary behaviour did not change over the seven assessment periods, after accounting for age, gender, per cent body fat, wear time, marathon finishing time, and previous marathon experience. This prospective study supports the notion that PA and sedentary behaviours are distinct, showing that sedentary behaviour was not impacted by high levels of aerobic training.  相似文献

This study was performed to determine the influence of single and repetitive exercise on nitric oxide (NO) concentration in the lung. Exhaled NO concentration (FE(NO)) was measured during a constant-flow exhalation manoeuvre (170 ml x s(-1), against a 10 cmH2O resistance) in healthy individuals (a) during and after a 100-min square-wave exercise of between 25 and 60% of maximal power output (n = 18) and (b) before and after five successive prolonged exercises (90-120 min, 75-85% of maximal heart rate) separated by 48 or 24 h (n = 8). The FE(NO0.170) was decreased during and after the 100-min exercise test (mean +/- s(x): 58.5 +/- 3.7% and 76.7 +/- 5.2% of resting value at 90 min of exercise and 15 min post-exercise, respectively; P < 0.05). The five successive exercise sessions induced a similar post-exercise FE(NO0.170) decrement (73.1 +/- 2.9% of resting value 15 min post-exercise), while basal FE(NO0.170) values were not different between the five sessions (P > 0.05). These results suggest that prolonged exercise induces a reduction in NO concentration within the lung that lasts for several minutes after the end of exercise. However, repetitive exercises (at least every 24 h) allow complete NO recovery from one session to another. The implication of such a decrease in NO availability within the lung remains to be clarified.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of pedalling rate on the pattern of mechanical torque application and on neuromuscular fatigue during prolonged cycling exercise. Eleven well-trained individuals performed three 1-h pedalling sessions, at 50 rev.min-1, 110 rev.min-1 and a freely chosen cadence, at an intensity corresponding to 65% of their maximal aerobic power. The mechanical torque applied on the right pedal was recorded for 30 s every 5 min while pedalling. Contractile and neural properties of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles were analysed before and immediately after each of the three pedalling sessions. The post-exercise reduction in knee extensors maximal voluntary contraction was significant (P<0.01) irrespective of the cadence, but no difference was found between cadences. The use of a particular cadence did not lead to preferentially central or peripheral fatigue. An increase in cadence resulted in greater positive and negative work generated during pedalling. The mechanical pattern was not altered during the exercise, whatever the selected cadence. The present study demonstrates that despite the occurrence of neuromuscular fatigue, trained individuals maintained a stable pedalling pattern throughout an endurance cycling exercise for cadences ranging from 50 to 110 rev.min-1.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the acute effect of the aerobic exercise volume on maximum strength and strength-endurance performance; and possible causes of strength decrements (i.e. central and peripheral fatigue). Twenty-one moderately trained men were submitted to a maximal incremental test to determine anaerobic threshold (AnT) and maximum dynamic strength (1RM) and strength-endurance (i.e. total volume load [TV]) tests to determine their baseline strength performance. Following, subjects performed six experimental sessions: aerobic exercise sessions (continuous running at 90% AnT) with different volumes (3?km, 5?km or 7?km) followed by 1RM or strength-endurance test in the 45° leg press exercise. Maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), voluntary activation (VA) level, contractile properties, and electromyographic activity (root mean square [RMS]) of the knee extensor muscles were assessed before and after aerobic exercises and after strength tests. TV was lower after 5?km and 7?km runs than in the control condition (12% and 22%, respectively). Additionally, TV was lower after 7?km than 3?km (14%) and 5?km (12%) runs. MVIC, VA, RMS, and contractile properties were reduced after all aerobic exercise volumes (~8%, ~5%, ~11% and ~6–14%, respectively). Additionally, MVIC, VA, and contractile properties were lower after strength tests (~15%, ~6%, ~9–26%, respectively). In conclusion, strength-endurance performance is impaired when performed after aerobic exercise and the magnitude of this interference is dependent on the aerobic exercise volume; and peripheral and central fatigue indices could not explain the different TV observed.  相似文献

The effect of alcohol ingestion before exercise on blood haemostasis is not known. The present study examined the effects of moderate alcohol ingestion on blood haemostatic variables at rest and in response to exercise. Eleven normal healthy individuals randomly performed two tests separated by 7 days. A moderate dose of ethanol (0.5 g.kg-1) was administered before one test, whereas an equal volume of an alcohol-free drink was administered before the other. Forty-five minutes after the ingestion of either drink, the participants cycled at 65% VO2max for 30 min followed by a 5-min all-out performance. Venous blood samples were obtained before and 45 min after the ingestion of both drinks, and also immediately after exercise. Exercise induced a significant increase in tissue-type plasminogen activator activity and antigen, and factor VIII procoagulant activity. The post-exercise data also showed a significant decrease in plasminogen activator inhibitor activity and soluble fibrin, with a significant shortening in prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time, but not thrombin time. No significant changes were observed in antithrombin III. Although no significant differences were found between trials in the haemostatic and fibrinolytic variables at rest, a significant decrease in fibrinogen concentration was observed after exercise in the alcohol trial. This suggests that ingesting a moderate dose of alcohol does not alter blood coagulation and fibrinolysis at rest. Apart from fibrinogen concentration, which was significantly decreased after exercise in the alcohol trial, most of the haemostatic and fibrinolytic variables were not affected by alcohol. The mechanism responsible for the decrease in fibrinogen following exercise in the alcohol trial remains unknown, but might be related to inhibition of fibrinogen synthesis by the liver or an enhanced rate of its catabolism.  相似文献

In order to describe the kinetics of the reaction of the heart rate (HR) to the onset of exercise of constant intensity, the half-time (t1/2) of HR can be used. First in a study of exercise of intensity corresponding to 2 W kg-1 on a cycle ergometer, the t1/2 in 15 trained male rowers and 11 untrained male students was determined. In the trained subjects t1/2 was smaller than in untrained students, mean (+/- S.D.) values being 24.10 (+/- 3.36) s and 47.12 (+/- 4.08) s respectively. In both groups t1/2 was positively correlated with resting HR, r = 0.774 and 0.846 and negatively correlated with maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), r = -0.728 and -0.871 respectively (P less than 0.01). The regulation of HR in the transition range was concluded to be very similar to the regulation of VO2 and energy requirements. The second part of this work was concerned with responses to graded exercise. The linearity of the HR-exercise intensity relationship is maintained up to a submaximal exercise intensity beyond which the increase in exercise intensity exceeds the increase in HR. It was hypothesized that the point where HR departs from linearity in an incremental exercise test may be employed as a predictor of the ventilatory threshold (Tvent). To examine this, 28 trained male long-distance runners were tested on a treadmill and 17 untrained young male subjects were tested on a cycle ergometer using a continuous incremental protocol. The Tvent was determined from the dependence of VE on VO2 and/or VCO2. The VO2, HR and exercise intensity at Tvent were compared with the same parameters determined from the dependence of HR on exercise intensity. No significant differences were found between Tvent and HR break point levels. It was concluded from this second study that the HR break point level coincides with Tvent.  相似文献

The effects of self-monitoring and reinforcement on exercise adherence   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Two behavioral techniques were assessed to determine their effects on subjects' adherence to unsupervised exercise. The subjects were 35 moderately fit persons who had just completed an adult fitness program (AF group) and 42 sedentary individuals who were recruited through the campus newspaper (NEWS group). Participants were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: (a) self-monitoring, (b) reinforcement supplied by another person, or (c) control. All subjects were given instructions on how to exercise and asked to exercise on their own for 18 weeks. Self-monitoring subjects kept written records of their exercise behavior, while reinforcement subjects verbally reported their exercise behavior to another person who periodically administered rewards. Pre- and posttreatment tests on the NEWS group revealed no significant treatment or interaction effects. However, the reinforcement group had an 11% improvement in predicted max VO2 and a 9 bpm improvement in exercise heart rate compared to 7.8%, 5 bpm for the self-monitoring (SM) group and 5.3%, 6 bpm for the control group. T-tests indicated that reward and SM groups improved significantly on these variables, whereas the control group did not. SM (M = 2.07) and reinforcement (M = 2.29) groups reported a significantly higher frequency of exercise per week than the control (M = 1.36) group. The AF subjects were able to maintain their fitness level (with the exception of a small increase in body fat) over the 18-week period. The behavioral interventions had little differential effect on adherence by AF subjects who were already regular exercisers.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the validity of the heart rate formula 170 – 0.5 age ± 10 used to prescribe endurance training for healthy sedentary or moderately trained individuals. A total of 795 incremental tests of women and men during running and cycling were analysed. The maximum heart rate, heart rate at deflection and age-dependent declines of these heart rates were determined. The maximum heart rate and the heart rate at deflection were greater during running (women: 192 ± 10 and 181 ± 9 bpm; men: 191 ± 10 and 179 ± 10 bpm) than cycling (women: 185 ± 11 and 170 ± 11 bpm; men: 187 ± 10 and 169 ± 11 bpm, P < 0.001) without any sex-based difference. With the upper limit of the existing heart rate formula, 4% during running and 35% during cycling exceeded the heart rate at deflection. We suggest two heart rate formulae for healthy sedentary or moderately endurance trained individuals separated for mode of exercise but not for sex: 165 – 0.5 age ± 5 for running and 160 – 0.5 age ± 5 for cycling.  相似文献

Deep-water running is performed in the deep end of a swimming pool, normally with the aid of a flotation vest. The method is used for purposes of preventing injury and promoting recovery from strenuous exercise and as a form of supplementary training for cardiovascular fitness. Both stroke volume and cardiac output increase during water immersion: an increase in blood volume largely offsets the cardiac decelerating reflex at rest. At submaximal exercise intensities, blood lactate responses to exercise during deep-water running are elevated in comparison to treadmill running at a given oxygen uptake (VO2). While VO2, minute ventilation and heart rate are decreased under maximal exercise conditions in the water, deep-water running nevertheless can be justified as providing an adequate stimulus for cardiovascular training. Responses to training programmes have confirmed the efficacy of deep-water running, although positive responses are most evident when measured in a water-based test. Aerobic performance is maintained with deep-water running for up to 6 weeks in trained endurance athletes; sedentary individuals benefit more than athletes in improving maximal oxygen uptake. There is some limited evidence of improvement in anaerobic measures and in upper body strength in individuals engaging in deep-water running. A reduction in spinal loading constitutes a role for deep-water running in the prevention of injury, while an alleviation of muscle soreness confirms its value in recovery training. Further research into the applications of deep-water running to exercise therapy and athletes' training is recommended.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of carbohydrate (CHO) feeding during different periods of two 90-min cycling bouts (the first bout began at 09:00?h and the second bout began at 13:30 h) at 60% maximal oxygen uptake(VO2max) on saliva flow rate and saliva immunoglobulin A (sIgA) responses to the second exercise bout. The study consisted of three investigations: carbohydrate supplementation during (1) the first hour of the recovery interval (CHO-REC), (2) during the first bout of exercise and (3) during the second bout of exercise. Each investigation included two trials completed in a counterbalanced order and separated by at least 4 days. Participants consumed a lemon-flavoured 10% w/v carbohydrate beverage or placebo (22 ml.kg-1 body mass) in the first hour of the recovery interval (n=8) and 500 ml just before exercise, followed by 250 ml every 20 min during exercise in the first (n=9) and second exercise bouts (n=9). Timed unstimulated saliva samples were collected at 10 min before exercise, after 48-50 min of exercise and during the last 2 min of exercise, at 1 h post exercise, 2 h post exercise (first exercise bout only), and 18 h post exercise (second exercise bout only). Venous blood samples were taken 5 min before exercise and immediately after exercise for both exercise bouts in all trials. The main findings of the present study were as follows. First, carbohydrate ingestion during both exercise bouts, but not during the recovery interval, better maintained plasma glucose concentrations and attenuated the increase in plasma adrenaline and cortisol concentrations after the second exercise bout compared with placebo. Second, carbohydrate feeding had no effect on saliva flow rate and sIgA secretion rate compared with placebo. Third, saliva flow rate and sIgA concentration returned to pre-exercise bout 1 values within 2 h in all trials. Fourth, there was no delayed effect of exercise on oral immunity. These findings suggest that carbohydrate ingestion during the first or second bout of exercise, but not during the recovery interval, is likely to better maintain plasma glucose concentrations and attenuate the responses of plasma stress hormones to a second exercise bout than ingestion of fluid alone. Two bouts of 90 min cycling at 60% VO2max on the same day appears to inhibit saliva flow rate during the second exercise bout but does not alter sIgA transcytosis. Our results show that carbohydrate ingestion during any period of two prolonged exercise bouts does not induce different effects on oral immunity compared with placebo.  相似文献
