The “Learning in Depth” program is a simple but radical innovation, which was first implemented in Canada in 2008/2009 and is now being used in a dozen countries with many thousand students. Abstract As we move forward in the new millennium, the call for reform in teacher education programs increases. One reform model, offered by Nel Noddings, focuses on the students’ affect, emotion, and intellect. Noddings proposes the use of fidelity—focusing on the individual and the quality of relationships—as a cornerstone in teaching and teacher education. Fidelity in teacher education utilizes a process that includes modeling, dialogue, practice, and confirmation. This paper explores the fundamentals of a fidelity‐based approach to teacher education and examines a university course and its fieldwork component by analyzing the structure and methods of each using the fidelity framework. If we expect our pre‐service teachers to create caring learning environments, they must first be taught about caring environments by their professors. The use of fidelity in teacher education programs is one model that allows for caring environments as well as content application. 相似文献

The condom plays a vital part in safe sex, the ideal outcome of mainstream Swedish sex education. As researchers have pointed out, however, the condom is not a neutral object; rather, it plays a part in shaping, in different ways, both sexual practices and the idea of what sex is. This paper focuses on sex education television programmes produced in Sweden from 1998 to 2011, and particularly on the condom's role in maintaining a hierarchy of sexuality that favours heterosexuality and vaginal intercourse. The analysis shows that the condom is presented as self-evident, as always available, and as unique in the protection it provides against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Through over-simplified messages, such as ‘the condom is appropriate on all occasions’, the coital imperative is sustained and practices that do not include a penis are excluded from concepts of ‘sex’. From a safer sex perspective, this approach leaves unanswered questions about protection during other sexual practices, in particular from STIs such as herpes, for which no prevention strategies are presented. From a wider perspective, the sole focus on condoms, with its specific emphasis on the penis and penetration, runs contrary to the inclusive agenda of contemporary Swedish sex education. 相似文献

Although many nations advocate for the full inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in all realms of life, these individuals are nevertheless still frequently excluded. One field of life that has rarely been considered central for inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities is military service. A unique programme was developed that provides an opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities to serve in the military in Israel. The centrality of the military within Israeli society, along with the aims and phases of the project are described, and brief evidence of the impact of the programme is provided. 相似文献

Reading First, Part B of Title 1 of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, provides support for states with approved programs
to improve the reading achievement of early elementary students in high poverty, chronically low achieving schools. The purpose
of this study is to examine the extent to which the Reading First program in the state of Michigan is making progress in meeting
this goal after five years of implementation. The study design makes use of the reading comprehension achievement test results
for cohorts of students who entered the program in different years and who took the test two or three times while attending
a Reading First school in Michigan between 2002 and 2006. The results indicate that overall the students showed significant
gains in reading comprehension; further, students with three years in Reading First tended to score higher than those with
two years in Reading First. However, students whose socio-demographic characteristics place them at an educational disadvantage
(e.g., eligibility for subsidized lunch) made relatively modest gains in reading comprehension. In addition, any negative
effects attributable to such student characteristics are compounded when the student body in the school is composed of a large
percentage of students with the same characteristic. These results suggest that while a successful program overall, Reading
First is not comprehensive enough to counteract the socio-demographic problems of extremely high poverty schools.
