Introduction:

Heavy chain diseases (HCD) are neoplastic proliferations of B cells which secrete truncated immunoglobulin heavy chains without associated light chains. Being rare and probably underdiagnosed diseases the aim of this report is to show an additional case of gamma heavy chain disease in a 48 year old female patient with rheumatoid arthritis focusing on the laboratory presentation.

Materials and methods:

Laboratory work-up included agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE), capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE), immunofixation and nephelometrically determined immunoglobulin and immunoglobulin subclasses of the patient’s serum. Urine samples were also subjected to immunofixation and to a SDS-PAGE with consecutive immunoblot.

Results:

Nephelometrically measured elevated IgG concentrations were noted in combination with a decreased gamma globulin region and an increased beta globulin region on AGE. A definite monoclonal spike was not identified on AGE but at least suspected on CZE; finally serum and urine immunofixation demonstrated a monoclonal gamma heavy chain devoid of any corresponding light chains confirming the diagnosis of HCD. Analysis of the gamma heavy chain (HC) with means of SDS-PAGE revealed proteins of 40 kD and 80 kD most likely presenting a truncated HC in its monomeric and dimeric form and possibly leading to the failure of IgG-subclass typing with the applied IgG subclass antisera.

Conclusion:

This case report illustrates a new case of gamma HCD demonstrating variable laboratory manifestations and therefore the need for heightened awareness concerning this disease when confronted with abnormal and discrepant protein profiles in routinely applied laboratory tests.  相似文献

中微子物理是粒子物理最重要的前沿之一,存在众多未解之谜,可能成为超出标准模型的新物理突破口,也是粒子物理、天体物理和宇宙学研究的交叉前沿。大亚湾中微子实验2012年出人意料地发现大的新中微子振荡模式,使近期测量中微子质量顺序和CP相角成为可能。江门中微子实验(原名大亚湾二期实验)2013年得到中科院战略性先导科技专项支持,2015年启动建设,预计2020年投入运行。它以测量中微子质量顺序为核心科学目标,同时精确测量中微子6个振荡参数中的3个,达到好于1%的国际最好水平,使检验中微子混合矩阵的幺正性、发现新物理成为可能。它也可以研究超新星中微子、地球中微子、太阳中微子、大气中微子,寻找暗物质、质子衰变等,在多个领域达到国际先进水平,不仅能对理解微观的粒子物理规律做出重大贡献,也将对宇宙学、天体物理乃至地球物理做出重大贡献。  相似文献

Quantum coherent feedback based on waveguide quantum electrodynamics plays important roles in quantum devices design and quantum information processing. In this paper, we study the coherent dynamics of the quantum network composed of two separated resonators coupling to a waveguide. Using the dynamical feedback equation in Markovian regime, we obtain the analytical solutions to the output states for the two photons incident from the same or different directions of the waveguide. The two- photon scattering properties are analyzed based on the analytical expressions. It is found that the output states of the two photons can be controlled well by the phase induced by the single photon propagating between the two separated resonators. The results given in this paper are helpful in designing quantum devices at few-photon level.  相似文献

In this paper we obtain the Leimkuhler curve in the case of some important statistical distributions proposed in the informetrics and econometrics literature. In this way, we complete the previous work of Burrell [Burrell, Q. L. (2005). Symmetry and other transformation features of Lorenz/Leimkuhler representations of informetric data. Information Processing and Management, 41, 1317–1329], where several open problems were stated. To do this, we use a recent and general definition of the Leimkuhler curve proposed by Sarabia [Sarabia, J. M. (2008a). A general definition of the Leimkuhler curve. Journal of Informetrics, 2, 156-163], and a new representation of the Leimkuhler curve in terms of the first-moment distribution of the population. Specifically, we obtain the Leimkuhler curve of the following distributions: classical and exponentiated Pareto distributions; three-parameter lognormal distribution; generalized gamma distribution, which includes to the exponential and classical gamma distributions among others; generalized beta distribution of the first kind and generalized beta distribution of the second kind, which includes as particular or limiting cases next important families like beta distribution of the second kind, Singh–Maddala, Dagum, Fisk or Lomax distributions. All the obtained Leimkuhler curves can be computed easily.  相似文献

The characteristic radiations of the 36-hr. rhodium (105) have been investigated with the use of conventional absorption and coincidence methods. The beta rays were found to have a maximum energy of 0.55 Mev., and the gamma rays a quantum energy of ∼0.3 Mev. The beta-gamma coincidence rate of Rh105 indicated that less than 8 per cent of the beta rays are coupled with the gamma ray.  相似文献

This paper explores the influence of innovation on the probability of survival of two hundred top British firms founded throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. To this end, we have collected the firms’ significant innovations and classified them by Schumpeterian types, patented and non-patented and domestic and imported. The number of patents registered by the firms throughout their lifetime ?a rough measure of their incremental innovation activity– has also been recorded. In addition, twelve control variables ?five characteristics of the firms and seven of their business leaders– have been included. Both log-normal and gamma duration models have been used in the analysis. They have been estimated, firstly for the whole set of firms and, secondly, for the manufacturing and the service firms separately to control for industry differences. The results of the log-normal and gamma estimations are highly coincident, with some nuances. The significant innovations ?particularly new processes, non-patented and domestic ones– have been found to positively influence the probability of business survival. The number of patent applications seems to increase the survival probability of the manufacturing firms, but not of the service ones. Among the control variables, the firm’s size, its international dimension, and the age of the business leader at entry seem to be the most influential ones on business survival, although there are some differences between manufacturing and services. The main results are robust to the division of the sample by entry period.  相似文献

TB as the cause of uveitis varies from 0.5 to 10.5%; low sensitivity of confirmatory laboratory investigations and inconsistency of diagnostic criteria leads to paucity of data. Diagnosis requires a high level of suspicion and is often presumptive based on indirect evidences. Interferon gamma, Interleukin-2 and Neopterin are key biomarkers in immuno-regulation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. The relative shift from Interleukin-2 towards Interferon gamma (Interferon gamma/Interleukin-2) is more discriminatory for active tuberculosis. Protein carbonyl and Malondialdehyde, as oxidative stress markers, characterize active tuberculosis. A case of disseminated TB presenting with acute uveitis had a recurrent tubercular lymphadenitis after completing category I treatment under revised national tuberculosis control programme. The present study evaluates the potential utility of above mentioned biomarkers to predict atypical presentation in difficult cases of tuberculosis. Though tuberculous uveitis is amenable to treatment in early course of disease, the delay in diagnosis can have serious consequences for the patient.  相似文献

Bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) is a form of Förster resonance energy transfer. BRET has been shown to support lower limits of detection than fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) but, unlike FRET, has not been widely implemented on microfluidic devices for bioanalytical sensing. We recently reported a microscope-based microfluidic system for BRET-based biosensing, using a hybrid, high quantum-efficiency, form of BRET chemistry. This paper reports the first optical fiber-based system for BRET detection on a microfluidic chip, capable of quantifying photon emissions from the low quantum-efficiency BRET2 system. We investigated the effects of varying core diameter and numerical aperture of optical fibers, as well as varying microfluidic channel design and measurement conditions. We optimized the set-up in order to maximize photon counts and minimize the response time. The optimized conditions supported measurement of thrombin activity, with a limit of detection of 20 pM, which is lower than the microscope-based system and more than 20 times lower than concentrations reported to occur in plasma clots.  相似文献

BackgroundThe search for innovative anti-tubercular agents has received increasing attention in tuberculosis chemotherapy because Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection has steadily increased over the years. This underlines the necessity for new methods of preparation for polymer-drug adducts to treat this important infectious disease. The use of poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) is an alternative producing anti-tubercular derivatives. However, it is not yet known whether PEGylated isonicotinylhydrazide conjugates obtained by direct links with PEG are useful for therapeutic applications.ResultsHere, we synthesized a PEGylated isoniazid (PEG-g-INH or PEG–INH) by gamma radiation-induced polymerization, for the first time. The new prodrugs were characterized using Raman and UV/Vis spectrometry. The mechanism of PEGylated INH synthesis was proposed. The in vitro evaluation of a PEGylated isonicotinylhydrazide macromolecular prodrug was also carried out. The results indicated that PEG–INH inhibited the bacterial growth above 95% as compared with INH, which showed a lower value (80%) at a concentration of 0.25 μM. Similar trends are observed for 0.1, 1, and 5 μM.ConclusionsIn summary, the research suggests that it is possible to covalently attach the PEG onto INH by the proposed method and to obtain a slow-acting isoniazid derivative with little toxicity in vitro and higher anti-mycobacterial potency than the neat drug.How to cite: González-Torres M, Guzmán-Beltrán S, Mata-Gómez M, et al. This study proposes a per-survivor based BCJR algorthm for joint frequency synchronization and data decoding in trellis coded modulation (TCM) systems. The proposed algorithm uses two probing signals and a carrier frequency offset (CFO) tracker to calculate the modified gamma factor involved in the BCJR algorithm. To track the CFO, a state-time process recursively updates the CFO tracker using the soft-information provided by the modified gamma factor. The state-time process consists of a state-process and a time-process. The state-process takes advantage of the state-diversity in the TCM signals to choose the most probable CFO update corresponding to the state with the maximal modified gamma factor. Based on this CFO value, and in conjunction with the tentatively selected probing signals, the succeeding time-process can iteratively track the CFO using the trellis structure of the TCM signals. This study also develops a least-square-linear-fitting (LSLF) approach based on the CFO trace to dynamically adjust the step-size for the CFO tracker. Computer simulations show that unlike the conventional augmented a posteriori probability (A2P2) method having a small CFO tracking range, the proposed approach can handle a significantly larger CFO because of its ML-based CFO estimate. In addition, the proposed LSLF step-size determination ensures the PS-BCJR a higher accuracy in CFO estimation than the A2P2.  相似文献

Apart from the biochemical parameters routinely used like Vanillyl Mandellic Acid for the patients with neuroblastoma the parameters like neuron specific enolase, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transferase were also studied to assess the utility in diagnosing the patients with neuroblastoma. The study involved 40 healthy ambulatory subjects and 30 untreated cases of histologically proved neuroblastoma referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital for further management and treatment. The urinary Vanillyl Mandellic Acid levels and the serum levels of neuron specific enolase, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase had increased significantly, p<0.001 whereas the gamma glutamyl transferase had decreased significantly p<0.001, as compared to the normal. Serum neuron specific enolase, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase alongwith urinary Vanillyl Mandellic Acid could be of help in diagnosing the patients with neuroblastoma.  相似文献

This paper aims at rejuvenating the two rank correlation coefficients, Spearman’s footrule (SF) and Gini’s gamma (GG), which were forgotten in the literature for a long time due to lack of knowledge concerning their statistical properties. Under the common bivariate normal model, we establish the asymptotic analytical expressions of the mean and variance of SF and GG, and investigate the performances of SF and GG from the aspects of biased effect, approximate variance and asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE). Moreover, we further study the robustness of SF and GG under contaminated normal models. In order to get a deeper understanding of their performances, we also compare SF and GG with Kendall’s tau (KT) and Spearman’s rho (SR), the most widely used rank correlation coefficients, in terms of bias and mean square error (MSE) under both the normal and contaminated normal models. Finally we show an application of SF and GG in the field of signal processing through the example of time-delay estimation. Simulation results indicate that SF and GG outperform SR and KT in some cases. The new findings discovered in this paper enable SF and GG to play complementary roles to KT and SR in practice.  相似文献
