Humble Cave, a dilapidated cave shelter located in Wujiapo near the Big Goose Pagoda in the southern part of Xi＇an, is a historic ruin which has been now turned into a Iove-themed park within the Qujiang Lake Site Park, Three Chinese calligraphic characters, meaning ＂ancient humble cave＂, are inscribed at the cave＇s entrance, it is said that Wang Baochuan, a faithful lover, waited in this cave for the return of her husband Xue Pinggui for 18 years, In front of the cave＇s window is an ancestral temple in which the couple＇s statues are enshrined. Nu River （Angry River in Mandarin） rises from the south slope of Tang＇gula Mountain in northwest Qinghai Province.Tibetan people dwelling on the river＇s upper stream call it ＂Naqu＂, meaning ＂river of black water＂. Its name changes into ＂Nu Jiang＂ after it flows into Yunnan Province from Tibet Autonomous Region. The river then stretches through Myanmar and runs into the Indian Ocean and the section outside China is called ＂Salween＂. Within Yunnan Province, Nu River roars between Gaoligong Mountain and Bilo Snow Mountain which stand at an altitude of 4,000 to 5,000 meters. Efforts to localize oil painting have never stopped since this western art was introduced into China, A Chinese educational system on oil painting had not been developed until the era of master Xu Beihong. But if oil painting can be localized or not still remains a question in China. After New China was founded in 1949, influenced by Chairman Mao＇s theories on cultural development, Chinese oil painters were required to, besides serving ideological needs, pursue Chinese characteristics and cater to ordinary people＇s tastes. Dong Xiwen＇s ＂The Founding Ceremony of the New Republic＂ was the pioneer in this endeavor. Following him, almost all Chinese oil artists rushed into this direction, except some who made breakthroughs in landscape subjects. Yi Kenichiro, with a medium-sized figure, gentlemen-like appearance and unswerving disposition, is a Japanese professor expert in Chinese literature and language. He was then busy with his teaching work and the translation of the Japanese version of Zhou＇s novel. On my way back to Beijing, I dropped into the art museum of Hebei Provincial Institute of Painting in the city of Shijiazhuang, where an exhibition on Wei Kuizhong＇s off paintings was on the display. After fiver years of construction, the world＇s highest and longest plateau railroad, Qinghai-Tibet Raihvav, officially came into operation on July 1, 2006. The 1956-kilometer-long railway, starting from Xining in Qinghai Province and ending in Lhasa in Tibet Autonomous Region, runs through Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With an area of 2.3 million square kilometers, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau accounts for a quarter of the country＇s total territory and most parts of it stand above an elevation of 2,300 meters. Shanghai Museum was founded in 1952 and originally housed in the former horseracing club in Nanjing West Road.
