Honest Scales 1 The synagogue looked like any other synagogue in Poland. But near the door was a set of scales.Strangers often wondered about them. But the people of the town knew why they were there.2 Years back a drought, had come to the town. For months there had been no rain.Wells were dry.Gardens and farms were scorched. The people suffered thirst, and hunger. Some died.3 The jews of the town looked for help to their rabbi. And the rabbi prayed. But nothing happened. 4 One night the rabbi was alone, praying. He fell asleep. In his sleep he heard a voice say:"Your prayers will bring no help,There is only one man in town who can help.It is Kalman the grocer. You must call all the Jews to the synagogue and Kalman must lead the people in prayer."  相似文献

Selection of an appropriate reporting verb and its tense & voice in a particular context is one of the best ways for the writer to present his work appropriately and to communicate effectively with others in the academic community.Previous studies on reporting verbs varied from sample to discipline, however,to my knowledge,no study has specifically addressed the question of whether there is tense and voice variation of reporting verbs in research articles in Introduction and Discussion in agricultural context. The present study is an attempt to investigate the tense and voice variation of reporting verbs and looks for explanations based on 30 agricultural science research articles. Results showed that no predominant tense choice was found in Introduction while simple past tense and present perfect tense were two tense preferences in Discussion.Active voice was found to be predominant in Introduction whereas passive voice was found to be predominant in Discussion.  相似文献

The combined characterizations of mobility and phonon scattering spectra allow us to probe hole transport process in epitaxial PbSe crystalline films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The measurements of Hall effect show p-type conductivity of PbSe epitaxial films. At 295 K, the PbSe samples display hole concentrations of (5-8)× 10^17 cm^-3 with mobilities of about 300 cm^2/(V·s), and at 77 K the hole mobility is as high as 3×10^3 cm^2/(V·s). Five scattering mechanisms limiting hole mobilities are theoretically analyzed. The calculations and Raman scattering measurements show that, in the temperatures between 200 and 295 K, the scattering of polar optical phonon modes dominates the impact on the observed hole mobility in the epitaxial PbSe films. Raman spectra characterization observed strong optical phonon scatterings at high temperature in the PbSe epitaxial films, which is consistent with the result of the measured hole mobility.  相似文献

请用一刻钟的时间完成下面四篇阅读理解。A A young lady who was on holiday in Brighton went into a bank to collect some money which had been sent there for her from the town in which she lived. The clerk in the Brighton bank did not know her, so he said, "What proof have you got that you are really the lady who should collect this money?" The young lady looked worried for a few moments and said , " I don't think I've brought any proof with me." But then she suddenly looked happy again, she opened her bag, took a photograph of herself out of it and showed it to the clerk. "Here's something." she said. Pathological Voice Classification Based on Features Dimension Opti mization   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The classification of pathological voice from healthy voice was studied based upon 27 acoustic features derived from a single sound signal of vowel /a:/. First, the feature space was transferred to reduce the data dimension by principle component analysis (PCA). Then the voice samples were classified according to the reduced PCA parameters by support vector machine (SVM) using radial basis function (RBF) as a kernel function. Meanwhile, by changing the ratio of opposite class samples, the accuracy under different features combinations was tested. Experimental data were provided by the voice database of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) in which 216 vowel /a:/ samples were collected from subjects of healthy and pathological cases, and tested with 5 fold cross-validation method. The result shows the positive rate of pathological voices was improved from 92% to 98% through the PCA method. STD, Fatr, Tasm, NHR, SEG, and PER are pathology sensitive features in illness detection. Using these sensitive features the accuracy of detection of pathological voice from healthy voice can reach 97%.  相似文献

The paper deals with the reading and interpreting of the voice of gender in Emily Dickinson’s poems. The gender, the 1yric poem and the reading constitute the performance.Dickinson succeeded in constructing alternatives to a traditional, fixed binary gender system(woman/man) and opens opportunities for the reader to perform alternative gendering.Analysis of voices of gender in and of Dickinson’s poems shows that her variant performances of gender are crucial to the general construction of her poetry.Through the analysis of the voice of gender in Dickinson’s poetry, the paper discloses the crucial function of poets construct in women’s rebellion and self-salvation and subverting patriarchy, which also demonstrates her uniqueness in her life and literary creativity.  相似文献
