As narratives are composed of the content encoded and the medium giving concrete shape to them, narratives are inseparably intertwined with temporalities, those of story time and narrative time.In the poem When We Two Parted, there is the co-existence of story time and narrative time. The story time covers three sections depicting separately the past events, the present and the future. They are boiled down into the poem in thirty two lines in total, which gives rise to the variance between duration of story time and duration of narrative time. The durations endow the poem with distinguishable narrative effects.  相似文献

There are two elements in life that Americans dosave carefully: time and labor."Americans are slaves to nothing but theclock, "it has been said. Time is treated as if it were an almost tangible entry. In their language, there are words associated with it: time can be budgeted, saved, wasted, stolen, killed, and cut. Americans also charge for time. It is a precious commodity to them. Many people have a rather acute sense of the shortness of each lifetime. Once the sands have run out of a person' s hourglass, they can not be replaced. They want every minute to count.  相似文献

Birds of Prey
Birds of prey hunt and eat animals. There are many different birds of prey.Eagles, hawks, owls and vultures are all birds of prey. They live in many parts of the world.Birds of prey have strong, sharp claws or talons. They use them to catch and carry their food.Birds of prey have sharp, hooked beaks. They use them to tear up their food.Birds of prey have big, strong wings. These help them to fly and hunt for hours at a time.  相似文献

Ruth and Mary are two heroines in Eugene O’Neill’s plays Beyond the Horizon, and Long Day’s Journey into Night. They have some similarities: when they are young, they are beautiful, native and full of hope towards the future life, but both make wrong choices; in the following years, both suffer a lot from these wrong choices, and feel regretful. This paper tries to explore these two tragic female images.  相似文献

ANIMAL WORLD
The Monkey
In hot countries the forests are not like our forests. They are large and dark, because the trees grow very thick and high there. There are such forests in Asia, Africa and America. This is the home of monkeys. They live in the trees and sleep on the branches. The monkey is a quick animal. It can walk on two legs and arms. When the monkey use its other two paws as wants to go quickly from one place to another, it runs along trees. Monkeys run from one tree to another, and all the time they make a noise as if talking to each other.  相似文献

Many educators have rung alarmbells about the effects of the No Child Left Behind Act's testing requirements on the classroom curriculum. They fear these are narrowing the curriculum. They claim teachers are spending most of their time preparing students to pass state tests in reading and mathematics. If reading tests do influence what is taught, the high school literature curriculum may well become  相似文献

Proteins are major functional units that are tightly connected to form complex and dynamic networks. These networks enable cells and organisms to operate properly and respond efficiently to environmental cues.Over the past decades, many biochemical methods have been developed to search for protein-binding partners in order to understand how protein networks are constructed and connected. At the same time, rapid development in proteomics and mass spectrometry(MS)techniques makes it possible to identify interacting proteins and build comprehensive protein-protein interaction networks. The resulting interactomes and networks have proven informative in the investigation of biological functions, such as in the field of DNA damage repair. In recent years,a number of proteins involved in DNA damage response and DNA repair pathways have been uncovered with MS-based protein-protein interaction studies. As the technologies for enriching associated proteins and MS become more sophisticated, the studies of protein-protein interactions are entering a new era.In this review,we summarize the strategies and recent developments for exploring protein-protein interaction. In addition,we discuss the application of these tools in the investigation of protein-protein interaction networks involved in DNA damage response and DNA repair.  相似文献

Have you heard of the term 'tweenager '? It's the new slang word being used in the UK to describe children at either eight-12 or ten-13 years old. They are between being a junior and a teenager, you see. Why are the press and media suddenly referring to kids in this way?  相似文献

Because brushless direct current (BLDC) motors have the advantages of a compact size, high power density, high efficiency, and long operating life time, they are widely used in many industrial products and electric traction systems. It is known that the BLDC motors have no brushes for commutation. They are commutated with electronically commutation. So, the rotor position information of the BLDC motors must be known to understand which winding will be energized according to the energizing sequence. In most of the existing BLDC motor drivers, rotor position information is detected by Hall effect sensors. This kind of mechanical position sensors will bring additional connections and costs, reliability decrease and noise increase. In order to improve the control performance and extend the range of speed regulation for BLDC motors, a position sensorless control method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed control method, rotor position information of the BLDC motors is detected from the back electromagnetic forces (back-EMFs) which are estimated by an unknown-input observer with line to line currents and line to line voltages. For the purpose of verifying the effectiveness of the proposed control method, a model is built and simulated on the Matlab/Simulink platform. The simulation results show that the speed regulation performance of BLDC motors is improved compared with using Hall effect sensors. At the same time, the reliability of the BLDC motors is improved and the costs of them are reduced because the position sensor is eliminated.  相似文献

Easter is a time of springtime festivals. In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. But the celebrations of Easter have many customs and legends that are pagan in origin and have nothing to do with Christianity.  相似文献

A Scientists have always wanted to know more about other worlds in space.Man-made spaceships had been sent up into the space. They know many facts about the moon. They know how big and how far away it is.But they want to know more about it. So do Chinese scientists. They are trying their best to study the space. With their hard-working,China doesn't fall behind other countries in the field. In 2003,Shenzhou V spaceship with one astronaut,Yang Liwei, was sent up into the space. This made China well-known in the world. In 2005,  相似文献

In American literary history, two ocean novels,Herman Melville’s Moby Dick and Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea,have always been comparatively studied.Much research focuses on the two protagonists,Ahab in Moby Dick and Santiago in The Old Manand the Sea,to praise their heroic spirit, which is shared with other commonly acknowledged heroes. However, unique heroic characteristics of Ahab and Santiago which are tinged with the time flavor are commonly neglected.Enlightenment, which took on different facets in the 19th and 20th centuries, and American social development in different stages contributed a lot to the forming of the two heroic styles. In conclusion,Ahab and Santiago,in the sense of the affirmation of one’s value and the defence of their dignity, are heroes, and meanwhile, their heroic behaviors are adapted to the whole atmosphere of a specific time stage.  相似文献

In most of Lawrence’s works, men are described to be handsome, healthy and energetic superficially, yet women may probe into their inner world to know them better. But under the disguise of their attractive appearance, women have found that men are evil, selfish, cold-blooded, hypocritical and degraded. They are criminals to the nature ,women , children and even to themselves. This essay will ana lyze women’s views on the male world in details.  相似文献

Men are the cleverest and most dangerous animals on the earth. Rats come second. Men kill many other animals, and they kill their enemies. They have even killed millions of men since an-cient time but rats kill more men. They have killed hundreds of millions of men. Rats carry many diseases and these have killed and are still killing thousands of men today in many countries. Rats are dangerous not in only one way. They not only carry diseases into men’s home, they also eat up men’s food. T…  相似文献

INTRODUCTION Oil and water well is an important basic estab- lishment in oilfields. In many oilfields, there are many different damages in the well’s casing walls after its development for a period of time. They will affect the normal production of damaged wells and adversely influence the neighbouring wells and the block, and threaten steady production. There are different kinds of damages due to multiple problems in the casing walls, for example, corrosion, perforation, decreased diame…  相似文献

Teachers are just like our parents. They spend much time on our studies. They always want us to learn as much as possible.Because of this,we always have little time to relax. If I were a teacher,I would teach the students how to learn well.If my students made mistakes in my subject,I would not worry much about it.Failure is the mother of success.I would tell them to review what they have learned and find the solutions to the problem. And I won't forget one important thing, that is,if I were a teacher,I would give them less homework.I would give them more free time to relax themselves.  相似文献
