This article reviews the six papers published so far in this series on global trends in health science librarianship. Starting with a retrospective review of trends in the twentieth‐century, the series has covered 6 different regions, with contributions from 21 countries. As this is the half‐way point in the survey, it seems a useful point at which to reflect on what has emerged so far. The method of content analysis is used to identify key trends. The top five trends are explored. JM  相似文献

《The Reference Librarian》2013,54(49-50):267-288
The author creates a fictional scenario of library reference service at an unspecified date in the first part of the twenty-first century. Ten major social trends for the 1990s as identified by Faith Popcorn are examined. The reference service practices in the fictional scenario and present-day reference service practice are critiqued in terms of how they fit or diverge from each of the ten trends. The fictional scenario is found to embody more of the significant trends than does present day reference practice. The need to tie into these trends is noted.  相似文献

The increasing costs of research and the decreasing lifetime of products and processes make the decisions on allocation of R&D funds strategically important. Therefore, ability to predict research trends is crucial in minimizing risks of R&D expenditure planning. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model for efficient prediction of research trends in a chosen branch of science. The approach is based on population dynamics with Burgers’ type global interaction and selective neighborhood. The model is estimated based on a training set. Then, an out-of-sample forecast is performed. The research trends of filtration and rectification processes were analyzed in this paper. The simulation results show that the model is able to predict the trends with a considerable accuracy and should, therefore, be tested on a wider range of research fields.

During the past decade, changes in the environment in which ,reference librarians work have prompted questions about the effectiveness of time-honored service patterns and mechanisms. In response to internal and external pressures and forces, during the 1990s some reference managers transformed questioning into action and conducted experiments with modifications in service structures and methods. Several trends are beginning to emerge. The common thread among hem is a focus on the needs of Lhe individual user. These trends may reshape the way reference service is performed.  相似文献
