This study assessed the effectiveness of one science teacher education program designed to be a model program. The study provided evidence that preservice science teacher education can have a very positive effect on the development of preservice science teachers into effective practicing teachers. Thirty program graduates completed a pilot version of the 1985 National Survey of Science and Mathematics Education providing information on course objectives, teaching strategies, equipment use, time allocation, and textbook use. The responses of program graduates were compared to the responses of a select national sample of teachers. All teachers in the comparison group were from programs in the Search for Excellence in Science Education, Presidential Award winners, recognized as outstanding state science teachers, employed as department chairs, or actively involved in the development of science curriculum. Analysis of the responses indicated that both program graduates and comparison group teachers had similar course objectives and teaching strategies, used materials and equipment a similar amount of time, and allocated class time in similar ways. In another component of the study, students of 37 program graduates completed a questionnaire that assessed their attitudes toward science teachers, science classes, and the study of science. Analysis of attitudinal data from their 2871 students indicated that students of program graduates generally had positive attitudes. For instance, 89% of the students perceived their science teacher as asking questions and 80% perceived their science teacher as letting them ask questions. In general, the data are in stark contrast to the images obtained from National Assessment efforts.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of formal reading instruction on kindergartners with respect to reading achievement, attitude toward reading, and attitude toward school.

Altogether 220 children, classified on intelligence and reading readiness variables, were randomly assigned to formal reading and readiness programs for four months. Criterion data respecting to achievement and attitudes were collected by means of the California Reading Test and constructed attitude inventories.

Analyses of data reveal that in terms of reading achievement, the reading program was more effective than the readiness program, but that attitudes toward school and reading were a function of intelligence and reading readiness when attitudes were measured by a teacher-reporting scale. When measured by a pupil self-reporting scale, attitudes were a function of the type of instruction, with children in the readiness program showing more favorable attitudes.  相似文献

This study investigated how teachers used an electronic performance support system (EPSS) and whether the usage of this EPSS affected their work performance and attitudes toward computer technology. The findings suggested a framework for the implementation of an EPPS in an educational setting, specifically at a middle school. The data were collected through observations, questionnaires, anecdotal logs, database records, and interviews. Four middle school teachers used the EPSS primarily for completing student progress reports wherein the results indicated that the EPSS decreased the amount of time to perform this task. Computer usage, performance, and attitudes were affected by work responsibilities, accessibility to computers, the change agent, the technology support personnel, as well as the specific characteristics of the EPSS. The teachers' attitudes toward the EPSS and technology in general were affected by their performances when using the system, by interactions with the person responsible for technology support, and by the ability to customize the computer program to fit their needs.  相似文献

Of the growing number of training programs in mainstreaming competencies reported, only a few have used naturalistic observations to evaluate the impact of these interventions. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a preparation program in mainstreaming for regular teachers on attitudes, management styles and mainstreamed pupil behaviour. Thirty prospective teachers, including 15 trained in special education (the experimental group) and 15 controls were each observed interacting with a mainstreamed and matched comparison pupil. Findings revealed that (a) training was effective in modifying attitudes toward mainstreaming by experimental teachers; (b) mainstreamed pupils in control teacher classrooms displayed significantly less appropriate classroom behaviours than their comparison peers; and (c) experimental and control teachers did not differ significantly in the management techniques employed. Both groups, however, reacted differently toward mainstreamed pupils than toward their matched classmates. Implications for preparation programs for regular educators are discussed.  相似文献

经营者收购作为解决我国国有企业激励不足的一项措施,曾在一些上市公司中试行。然而,我国已有的一些所谓的经营者收购虽能解决经营者的激励问题,却不能解决经营者的约束问题,与真正意义上的经营者收购相差甚远,并导致了有些上市公司与某些机构之间内幕交易和违规行为的发生。尽管造成这种局面有多方面的原因,但经营者收购融资难是其中的一个重要原因。根据我国融资体制状况,一旦该项举措重新推行,由专业化的机构投资者参与的部门经营者收购模式也许是一个较为现实的选择。  相似文献

This study examines the relationship between some facets of organizational climate in university departments and faculty attitudes toward various aspects of faculty unionization. The dimensions of organizational climate explored are: the perceived power structure, assessment of rewards, and perceived organizational goals. The major findings of this study are: (a) The perceived power structure is an important determinant of attitudes toward an egalitarian system, especially in the social sciences. Perceived individual power is negatively related to egalitarian attitude in the physical sciences whereas perceived faculty group power is negatively related to favorable attitudes toward collective bargaining in the social sciences. (b) Perceived emphasis on consulting activities is positively related to attitudes toward seniority-based aspects of collective bargaining in the physical sciences while perceived emphasis on personal factors is positively related to all aspects of attitude toward collective bargaining in the social sciences. (c) Inequity is positively related to attitudes toward unionization both in the physical and social sciences. The policy implications of these findings to faculty and university administration are discussed.  相似文献

Goals for Health was a National Cancer Institute funded program designed to impact health behaviors of adolescents living in rural Virginia and New York. This study examined three specific objectives: (a) to examine participants' perceptions of the program components and the relationship between program components and overall program perception, (b) to examine whether subgroups of our participant population perceived the program differently, and (c) to examine whether having positive perceptions of the program predicted changes in program outcomes. Results indicated that program components were significantly related to program perceptions. Perceptions of the program did not differ by subgroup and program perceptions significantly predicted changes in tobacco attitudes and self-efficacy about eating behaviors. Given these findings, school consultants should become aware of how implementation of a program and perceptions of a program may impact program outcomes.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine factors that influence Chinese teachers’ attitudes toward using technology. Using the technology acceptance model (TAM) as the framework, the study considered the social and cultural in China, and included a new external variable—policy—along with perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, facilitation conditions, and subjective norms, into the original TAM framework. Structural equation modeling was implemented on questionnaire data collected from 1,423 teachers in China. The expanded model revealed a goodness-of-fit (TLI = 0.931, CFI = 0.942, RMSEA = 0.048, and SRMR = 0.039) and it explained 52.7% of the variance in teachers’ attitudes toward using technology. Chinese teachers' perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and national policy were determined to be the factors with positive direct influence on teachers' attitudes toward using technology. Subjective norms were found to have an indirect influence. This study contributes to the growing body of non-Western multicultural studies on the TAM and also serves as a starting point in understanding teachers’ attitudes toward technology use in China.  相似文献

Evidence of substantial growth in unionization among university noninstructional staff over the past 20 years (Hurd and Woodhead, 1987) and the emergence of a quality movement in higher education linking employee attitudes toward the work environment with increased productivity point to the need for additional research into union and nonunion staff perceptions of the work environment. 当前,我国国有企业在转换经营机制、完善法人治理结构、提高资产运营效率等方面进行了有益的尝试,具有中国特色的MBO也取得了一定的实践经验。但是,由于我国法律环境不完善,而国企改革的问题又是一个复杂的机制问题和社会问题,MBO实践中面临着管理层收购的收购主体、融资方式等方面的法律障碍问题。信托制度的介入在一定程度上可以有效规避相关法律制度的约束,为这些问题的解决提供思路和可行的方法。从这点出发,本文作者认为:在我国现有的法律制度背景下,信托模式是我国MBO发展的现实选择。  相似文献

对中南地区75所高校目标管理实施现状进行调查.调查结果显示,实施目标管理的高校数呈上升趋势,目标管理的实施与院校层次成正相关,目标考核是管理实施中的最大难点,上下协商是目标达成的最佳策略,监控机制是提高管理效能的必要措施,实地考察是目标考核的有效方式,专家组是最值得期待的考核主体.根据调查分析,提出营造上下欲同的组织氛围、构建科学合理的目标体系、形成权责利一致的授权机制是高校实现有效目标管理的关键.  相似文献

Working with at-risk youth presents unique challenges for rural agencies and organizations. This study describes the results of a life-skills management program, Survival Skills for Youth (SSY), that was organized and delivered to rural youth via collaborative efforts of education and noneducation agencies. The program was replicated with 10 groups of rural youth in Tennessee and Missouri (N = 114). All programs were a collaborative effort of 2 or more organizations, such as University Extension, school districts, juvenile justice programs, and state human service or workforce development programs. Pre- and postevaluations of knowledge of life management concepts, self-esteem, and social skills showed SSY to be effective in changing the attitudes and behaviors of rural youth. Performance and generalization of the skills in natural settings were also demonstrated. Interagency partnerships were shown to be an effective means of providing extracurricular life-skills management workshops for at-risk rural students.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two types of instructional media presenting role models (interactive video and print) and learner sex on attitudes toward instruction. One hundred sixteen unemployed people enrolled in a job training employability skills program participated in the study. Half of the subjects viewed an interactive video presentation of role models including scenes of employers asking job applicants typical interview questions. The other half read a print–based lesson that described typical interviewing situations and questions. Results indicated that both types of instruction were equally effective in enhancing the motivation of adult learners to engage in the instruction. Results also revealed that women perceived both instructional media as significantly more attention–getting, relevant, and satisfying to complete than male subjects.  相似文献

Most health care and social service providers are routinely required to work with elderly clients and clients’ aging family members. Research suggests that students entering these professions have knowledge deficits and lack positive attitudes toward older people. Few prefer to work with aging clients. Professional curricula are not providing students with adequate training to serve the current needs of this population, much less to meet projected increases in demand for services. To examine this issue, 67 master's students in nursing and social work completed questionnaires assessing (1) knowledge about aging, (2) attitudes toward old people, and (3) perceived barriers to gerontological education. Results confirmed the existence of knowledge deficits among respondents. Attitudes tended to be neutral rather than strongly positive or negative. Knowledge scores were related to attitudes, to respondents’ ages, and to their having lived in households with older relatives. Nursing students identified the greatest barriers in gerontological education as insufficient curriculum time and lack of academic role models. Social work students perceived lower status of work with the elderly and limited experience with healthy older people as the greatest barriers. The two groups agreed that fragmentation of services contributes to inadequate gerontological preparation. Findings suggest a need for didactic and experiential learning opportunities, reinforced by appropriate academic role models, for students in service professions.  相似文献

This paper reports the findings of a study that examined changes in interns’ culturally and family-responsive dispositions over the course of a 2-year early childhood teacher preparation program that prepares teachers who are willing and able to work with culturally, linguistically, and ability-diverse young children and their families. Specifically, we studied shifts in dispositions about (a) building relationships with families, (b) feeling comfortable working with children and families with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and (c) being willing to implement culturally responsive and relevant curriculum and instruction. Qualitative methodologies were employed to examine the guiding-principles paper interns wrote at the conclusion of the program. Results of the study indicate that interns perceived that their attitudes toward and beliefs about families with cultures different from their own changed over the course of the program. They attributed these changes, in part, to their engagement in activities that involved home visits and gathering families’ stories. The interns felt they gained a greater understanding of cultural diversity and changed some of their assumptions and biases as a result of spending time with families and getting to know their sociocultural context as well as their beliefs, priorities, and goals. The interns perceived that this intimate knowledge of families helped them provide culturally responsive instruction that took into account children’s diversity and promoted cultural and linguistic continuity between home and school.  相似文献
