清教是基督教新教中的一派，是主张改革的一支教派。清教徒所推崇和倡导的德行主要有：虔敬、谦卑、严肃、诚实、勤勉和节俭。教育在清教徒眼中，是实现这些德行的最重要的途径，因而格外重要。英国的清教徒在国内遭到迫害，被迫外逃，将清教思想带到了美洲大陆，于1636年创办了美国的第一一所高等学府——哈佛学院。虽然清教在19世纪后期就退出了哈佛大学，但清教思想却给哈佛带来了深远的影响。 相似文献
