From a contemporary perspective, the work of the Frankfurt School thinkers can be considered the last grand modern attempt to offer transcendence, meaning, and religiosity rather than "emancipation" and "truth." In the very first stage of their work, Adorno and Horkheimer interlaced the goals of Critical Theory with the Marxian revolutionary project. The development of their thought led them to criticize orthodox Marxism and ended in a complete break with that tradition, as they developed a quest for a unique kind religiosity connected with the Gnostic tradition and emanating, to a certain extent, from Judaism. This religiosity offers a reformulated Negative Theology within the framework of what I call "Diasporic philosophy." In his later work, Horkheimer explicitly presented Critical Theory as a new Jewish theology. Rearticulating Critical Theory is of vital importance today, both for understanding the current historical moment and for going beyond the oppressive dimensions of Critical Pedagogy. This article does not satisfy itself by offering a new reconstruction of Critical Theory; its goal is to offer a blueprint for a Diasporic counter-education that transcends Critical Pedagogy and goes beyond the emancipatory dimensions of Judaism itself.  相似文献

Abstract This article examines the theological perspective known as Body Theology in order to reflect on its implications for how we do religious education. Part one provides a summary of the viewpoint s basic arguments and part two both suggests broad pedagogical implications and offers examples of specific instructional practices directly generated from these new, theologically-based aims. Though several theologians have written what could be called body theologies in recent years, my summary of Body Theology is based on a reading of James B. Christian religious educators in the Religious Education Association are challenged to reclaim their theological nerve and their partnership in public conversations about the educational practices of U.S. society. Beginning with the work of Randolph Crump Miller in the 1950s, this essay traces through the pages of Religious Education the dialogue about the partnership of education and theology. A practical theology of education is offered where the teaching and forming of Christian identity is complemented with a public theological examination of educational practices and meanings in the wider culture.  相似文献

This article proposes the reconsideration of education's theological significance, proceeding from educators' experiences in a postmodern era. Uncertainty and vulnerability are central issues, not only with regard to the theological plausibility of education, but also with regard to a concrete process of adult faith formation. The responses that are formulated by educators to the perplexities of contemporary education can be fitting to an idea of adult faith formation where adults are themselves discovering, adapting, and constructing new roads of religious commitment and community building. This article contains three parts. First, it redefines the aim of education beyond the "constructability" of the child, in consequence of the issue of child abuse in Belgium. Second, it refers to five competencies to which the educator is inviting the child and to which the educator becomes intrinsically challenged. In a third movement these experiences are reformulated in a theological perspective as five traces for transcendence.  相似文献
