With a focus on performance assessments, this paper describes procedures for calculating conditional standard error of measurement (CSEM) and reliability of scale scores and classification consistency of performance levels. Scale scores that are transformations of total raw scores are the focus of these procedures, although other types of raw scores are considered as well. Polytomous IRT models provide the psychometric foundation for the procedures that are described. The procedures are applied using test data from ACT's Work Keys Writing Assessment to demonstrate their usefulness. Two polytomous IRT models were compared, as were two different procedures for calculating scores. One simulation study was done using one of the models to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed procedures. The results suggest that the procedures provide quite stable estimates and have the potential to be useful in a variety of performance assessment situations. 相似文献

Different standard-setting procedures usually produce different cut points even if each has a rational basis. In 2000, three standard-setting procedures were implemented to set cut scores in each of the 18 grade/content areas comprising Kentucky's state assessment system: the Contrasting Groups, Bookmark, and Jaeger-Mills procedures. Subsequently, participants from each of the three procedures worked together in each grade/content area to synthesize the results. These synthesis participants considered the results of, and examined the materials and information provided by, each of the three separate procedures. This study examined whether voluntary participation in animal care activities in school was associated with 6-year-old children's (N = 41) understanding of animal care procedures. Children who often participated in such activities had better understanding of animal care procedures, based on physical characteristics specific to target animals. But levels of participation were not associated with understanding of procedures which are common to both animals and humans. The results of this study suggest that voluntary participation in animal care activities, reflection on animal care procedures, and other factors all are related to young children's understanding of animal care procedures at school. 相似文献

Questions of whether hypothesized structure models are appropriate representations of the pattern of association among a group of variables can be addressed using a wide variety of statistical procedures. These procedures include covariance structure analysis techniques and correlation structure analysis techniques, in which covariance structure procedures are based on distribution theory for covariances, and correlation structure procedures are based on distribution theory for correlations. The present article provides an overview of standard and modified normal theory and asymptotically distribution-free covariance and correlation structure analysis techniques and also details Monte Carlo simulation results on the Type I and Type II error control as a function of structure model type, number of variables in the model, sample size, and distributional nonnormality. The present Monte Carlo simulation demonstrates clearly that the robustness and nonrobustness of structure analysis techniques vary as a function of the structure of the model and the data conditions. Implications of these results for users of structure analysis techniques are considered in the context of current software availability. 相似文献

Reporting confidence intervals with test scores helps test users make important decisions about examinees by providing information about the precision of test scores. Although a variety of estimation procedures based on the binomial error model are available for computing intervals for test scores, these procedures assume that items are randomly drawn from a undifferentiated universe of items, and therefore might not be suitable for tests developed according to a table of specifications. To address this issue, four interval estimation procedures that use category subscores for the computation of confidence intervals are presented in this article. All four estimation procedures assume that subscores instead of test scores follow a binomial distribution (i.e., compound binomial error model). The relative performance of the four compound binomial–based interval estimation procedures is compared to each other and to the better known normal approximation and Wilson score procedures based on the binomial error model. 相似文献

This study compares three procedures for the detection of differential item functioning (DIF) under item response theory (IRT): (a) Lord's chi-square, (b) Raju's area measures, and (c) the likelihood ratio test. Relations among the three procedures and some practical considerations, such as linking metrics and scale purification, are discussed. Data from two forms of a university mathematics placement test were analyzed to examine the congruence among the three procedures.
