As healthcare organizations continue to be asked to do more with less, access to information is essential for sound evidence-based decision making. Business intelligence (BI) systems are designed to deliver decision-support information and have been repeatedly shown to provide value to organizations. Many healthcare organizations have yet to implement BI systems and no existing research provides a healthcare-specific framework to guide implementation. To address this research gap, we employ a case study in a Canadian Health Authority in order to address three questions: (1) what are the most significant adverse impacts to the organization's decision processes and outcomes attributable to a lack of decision-support capabilities? (2) what are the root causes of these impacts, and what workarounds do they necessitate? and (3) in light of the issues identified, what are the key considerations for healthcare organizations in the early stages of BI implementation? Using the concept of co-agency as a guide we identified significant decision-related adverse impacts and their root causes. We found strong management support, the right skill sets and an information-oriented culture to be key implementation considerations. Our major contribution is a framework for defining and prioritizing decision-support information needs in the context of healthcare-specific processes.  相似文献

Enforcing a firm's patents is crucial for defending its competitive advantage. CEOs are central for making these strategic decisions but we know little about how their individual incentives shape their decision-making. We integrate theory from outcome-based CEO compensation designs into models explaining firms' decisions to become plaintiffs in patent litigation. Based on how compensation shapes time horizons and risk-taking of CEOs, we predict that CEO compensation tied to stock increases the firm's likelihood to enforce patents, while bonuses and stock options reduce it. Further, we reason that the tenacity of patent disputes in an industry creates a boundary condition for the effects of CEO compensation because they curtail the degree of agency that CEOs have for incorporating their personal incentives when making litigation decisions for the firm. We test these hypotheses for 2302 US firms with 4420 different CEOs and 3451 patent litigation cases between 1997 and 2015 and find support for all hypotheses with the exception of the boundary condition for stocks as CEO compensation. These findings advance existing theory on firms' decision-making on patent litigation by explicating how firm and CEO incentives can diverge with direct consequences for the likelihood of litigation to occur.  相似文献

This research aims to contribute to understanding the implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) in the field of health through a case study, leading to theory building and theory extension. We use the concept of the business process approach to knowledge management as a theoretical lens to analyse and explore how a large teaching hospital developed, executed and practically implemented a KMS. A qualitative study was conducted over a 2.5 year period with data collected from semi-structured interviews with eight members of the strategic management team, 12 clinical users and 20 patients in addition to non-participant observation of meetings and documents. The theoretical propositions strategy was used as the overarching approach for data analysis. Our case study provides evidence that true patient centred approaches to supporting care delivery with a KMS benefit from process thinking at both the planning and implementation stages, and an emphasis on the knowledge demands resulting from: the activities along the care pathways; where cross-overs in care occur; and knowledge sharing for the integration of care. The findings also suggest that despite the theoretical awareness of KMS implementation methodologies, the actual execution of such systems requires practice and learning. Flexible, fluid approaches through rehearsal are important and communications strategies should focus heavily on transparency incorporating both structured and unstructured communication methods.  相似文献

Based on a survey of Chinese publicly traded firms, we report on the status of the strategic information systems planning success in China. Through this analysis of the survey data, we found that Chinese managers are not using IS as a competitive weapon though they have already realized some aspects of strategic information system planning. We also examined the differences between Eastern and Western cultural and political context factors to explain this phenomenon.  相似文献

Inter-organizational knowledge sharing systems (IOKSS) can serve as strategic systems for knowledge-based sectors. Most prior research on inter-organizational systems (IOSs) focuses on organizations’ adoption of such systems; they reveal little about knowledge workers’ adoption of IOS, especially in horizontally linked firms. Knowledge workers’ perception is critical to the deployment of IOKSS at all stages. On the basis of a Delphi technique in the health sector, this study demonstrates that IOKSS can benefit individuals, customers, organizations, the sector, and the knowledge sharing process, and that the challenges of IOKSS arise from individuals, peers, IOKSS, organizations, and the sector.  相似文献

Information technology (IT) has transformed business practices in the last several decades: operations, product strategies, distribution, and customer service have become increasingly dependent on IT. Moreover, IT has changed its orientation from that of pure operational utility in the 1960s and 1970s to that of a competitive weapon in the 1990s and today. These phenomena have affected the way modern organizations are managed, as well as the way IT affects the strategic activities of an organization's value-chain.In particular, aligning an organization's business and IT strategies in order to deliver higher business performance presupposes a strategic business opportunity to which information systems technology is integral. In other words, Strategic Alignment between business and IT can have a positive business impact only if we see an organization's IT components as parts of a well-integrated organizational system. If business strategy is viewed separately from IT strategy or IT strategy is viewed only as a “support” tool, then there is little likelihood that the above positive impact of strategic alignment can take place.This research suggests, develops and tests a strategic co-alignment model by examining three types of integration that impact the planning process and the overall performance of information-intensive organizations: technological integration (TI), functional integration and strategic integration (SI).The results of this research yield some useful set of guidelines for theory building for IS, as well as for the business practice aspect of IS: most interesting is the role of consistency (co-alignment) between an organization's business and strategic information systems plans to improve overall firm performance. Other recommendations include having a high degree of involvement of IS executives in corporate planning, the use of outsourcing services to promote organizational systems integration, and the importance of internal coordination mechanisms to facilitate both systems consistency and lower transaction costs. Finally, this study has employed cluster analysis and discriminant analysis to interpret the research findings.  相似文献

The advent of new information technology has radically changed the end-user computing environment over the past decade. To enhance their management decision-making capability, many organizations have made significant investments in business intelligence (BI) systems. The realization of business benefits from BI investments depends on supporting effective use of BI systems and satisfying their end user requirements. Even though a lot of attention has been paid to the decision-making benefits of BI systems in practice, there is still a limited amount of empirical research that explores the nature of end-user satisfaction with BI systems. End-user satisfaction and system usage have been recognized by many researchers as critical determinants of the success of information systems (IS). As an increasing number of companies have adopted BI systems, there is a need to understand their impact on an individual end-user's performance. In recent years, researchers have considered assessing individual performance effects from IS use as a key area of concern. Therefore, this study aims to empirically test a framework identifying the relationships between end-user computing satisfaction (EUCS), system usage, and individual performance. Data gathered from 330 end users of BI systems in the Taiwanese electronics industry were used to test the relationships proposed in the framework using the structural equation modeling approach. The results provide strong support for our model. Our results indicate that higher levels of EUCS can lead to increased BI system usage and improved individual performance, and that higher levels of BI system usage will lead to higher levels of individual performance. In addition, this study's findings, consistent with DeLone and McLean's IS success model, confirm that there exists a significant positive relationship between EUCS and system usage. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.  相似文献

利用长期案例研究,从活动系统视角探索在位企业启动战略更新的驱动因素。研究发现,相互依赖性内容(资源和信息)通过两种途径推动战略更新活动的启动,即微观的更新活动累积成战略更新和战略更新活动之间的互动;相互依赖性结构对企业战略更新的影响受到自身形成阶段及外部环境的调节。最后讨论研究贡献和可能的局限。  相似文献

Business Intelligence (BI) seeks to increase the profitability of the organization by making intelligent and accurate decisions. Management accounting (MA) reports are the score-card of an operation manager's efficiency. The operational; tactical, and strategic decision types make the road to achieving the goals of a company. Further, Environmental factors may affect the supply chain or increase the costs of materials. This study aims to investigate the impact of the BI on the development of MA in industrial companies. Samples are 200 Managers of these companies. The researcher-made questionnaire was employed to collect the required data. Factor analysis by reliability and item content technique verified by 0.896 Cronbach's alpha. Results revealed that the impact of BI on the development of MA is meaningful. For the β-values, the highest and the lowest effect of variables on success of BI is for decision type and flexibility variables, respectively. However, For the t-values, it is for data quality and integration with other systems (IOS) variables, respectively. Managers in industrial companies, should pay attention to decision type and data quality more than flexibility and IOS.  相似文献

为使重大科技基础设施在我国创新体系建设中发挥更大作用,本文深入调研了欧美等发达国家和地区新建的一批不同类型的重大科技基础设施战略联盟,对其功能定位和建设路径进行了综合对比分析,研究发现重大科技基础设施联盟可能在协同区域发展战略、构建合作生态网络体系、促进关键技术协同创新、协调设施运行管理以及协同开放数据共享等方面发挥较好的促进作用。其建设路径可能是科学家主导,也可能是政府主导,建设和管理过程中会尽可能将利益相关方的意见和建议充分考虑进来,确保设施的发展能惠及多方面。并提出组建中国基于加速器的光源技术联盟,创新组织管理模式优化光源设施的协同管理,供政策研究和决策者参考。  相似文献

高端化战略变革是中国优秀企业寻求突破的重要途径,也是实现国家高质量发展战略的重要路径。然而,对于中国企业而言,在消费者高端需求模糊、资源匮乏、市场位势较低的不利情境下,如何实现企业高端化仍是一个重要议题。本文采用扎根理论方法,从系统理论视角对雅迪、波司登、飞鹤和竹叶青4家企业成功实现高端化战略变革的过程进行分析,挖掘高端化战略变革的系统逻辑和实践过程。研究发现:企业高端化战略变革是一个复合概念,需同时实现需求侧高端品牌塑造和供给侧综合实力跃迁;高端化战略变革的实践思路可通过本文提出的系统逻辑阐明,系统逻辑提炼出变革实践涉及的6大核心因素(战略目标、战略基点、战略内容、资源逻辑、战略共识和战略行动)并分析要素之间的先后关系;在此基础上,引入企业高端化战略变革的实践过程,构建起6要素间的双反馈回路并厘清战略目标从提出到实现的全过程。研究结论旨在为深化高端化战略变革理论研究提供系统逻辑和过程模型,为相关实践提供指导。  相似文献

Social networks are becoming a key communication tool for organizations, but also for top managers like CEOs. Among the different available platforms, Twitter is one of the greatest and it is considered one of the most suitable to share information and engage in dialogue with stakeholders. In this way, this paper analyzes the presence of CEOs on the most active social network sites, and assess the activity and interaction of these top managers on Twitter. CEOs from Global and Latin American companies were selected, to compare their performance. The results of the study show that the presence of CEOs in social networks is very low, and the majority of those that are present on them are not adequately using their Twitter accounts. Although the general presence and performance on are low, LatAm CEOs have a better presence on social networks and they are more active on Twitter, but Global CEOs have better interaction results on their accounts. So, this area of strategic communication should be improved by communication practitioners, since the CEO communication is nowadays a key communication issue for any organization.  相似文献

动态能力能够使企业适应动态变化环境,对战略转型过程具有重要影响。因此,本文从动态能力视角分析转型过程机理,认为转型背景下动态能力由环境洞察能力、规划设计能力、组织学习能力和变革领导能力构成,提出动态能力视角下的战略转型过程机理模型,阐述模型中各维度关系及作用路径。随后纵向案例研究表明:(1)转型动因、动态能力、转型准备、转型实施、转型整合及其相互之间的关系是影响战略转型的主要因素。只有明确各因素之间相互影响和作用,才能更好实施转型。(2)转型关键在于具备能够抓住转型关键因素的动态能力。动态能力贯穿转型全过程,能够使企业应对挑战、抓住机遇,有效整合资源,顺利推进转型。  相似文献

Many organisations are adopting new enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to address their organisational and business problems. These technologies may promise utopian visions of information management, yet often they have the potential to re-shape organisational life and bring even more control to the workplace; in some instances outcomes that are unpredictable and detrimental to the organisation. The study of ERPs and their influence on organisational life and culture is a complex and highly contested area of research which has been the subject of much theorising. This paper adds to the debate through a longitudinal case study of an integrated information system implementation undertaken within a large UK university. The system (known as SITS – strategic information technology services) was introduced into a university in 2006 and the focus of the research has been on culture change within the SITS environment. Document analysis, interviews and participant observation were used to collect data. What has emerged from this study is that many current approaches are unable to account for the complexity of cultural studies within an integrated information systems environment. Therefore we have adopted an approach which acknowledges technology’s power to facilitate or constrain, as well as the role that individuals play in the use of technology to organise.  相似文献

资源的匮乏常常是技术创业企业发展中面临的主要困难。而战略联盟为技术创业企业提供了一种以资源互补、风险共担、利益共享为基础的合作和发展模式,成为技术创业企业把握创业机会、实现快速发展的有效途径之一。本文首先针对技术创业企业与大企业构建的战略联盟,从资源基础观和"战略-结构"的视角,建立了技术创业企业构建战略联盟的"动因-行为-收益"整体分析框架;进而对高技术创业企业海兰信公司进行了深入案例研究,分析了其通过构建战略联盟获取资源、实现成长的内在机制。研究发现,技术创业企业选择联盟战略后,可以通过与伙伴企业进行组织间的合作、沟通和学习,使资源得到互补,战略更加明晰,组织结构更加完善,从而实现创业企业成长和绩效提升。在此基础上,本文提出了技术创业企业构建联盟的"动因-行为-收益"模型。  相似文献
