The best source of infant learning toys is the trash can. A noted authority on infancy made this statement...me. Many commercially made toys and learning materials are available. Some of them were developed out of a firm knowledge of developmental tasks of infancy and with aesthetic sensitivity. The project on which this report is based set out to establish how exploring children's musicality might encourage adults to consider their engagement with the musical play and learning of children under the age of five. Through reflection and evaluation the participants became aware that they were challenging their own teaching style in response to the children's exploratory learning. This became the central focus for the practitioners involved as it changed their understanding of their own practice. This paper endeavours to share the findings pertaining to the reflection, collaboration and change process of participants involved in the research project. It also describes practitioner involvement in this programme as an effective example of encouraging non-academic practitioners to take part in educational research.  相似文献

Mother and I     
Teaching materials are a manifestation of culture. "Teaching material culture is social culture manifested in the contents of teaching materials and in teaching activities. It represents a society's authoritative systems of knowledge, values, and concepts, and explicitly exhibits the given teaching contents selected by the society's leading class(es) for the socialization of children and young people. It is a tool for disseminating value concepts and ideology."1 English language teaching materials are even more distinctive. In English teaching materials and teaching, one must give expression to the Chinese society's requirements and expectations with regard to the socialization of children on the one hand and, on the other, because the English language is the creation of a foreign culture, English language teaching materials and teaching manifest the Chinese people's reading and reconstruction of that foreign culture. Junior middle school English-language teaching materials are targeted at twelve- to fifteen-year-old children in their adolescence. In terms of English-language studies, they cannot reach the level of children of the same age in countries where English is the mother tongue, and so the contents of English teaching materials seem relatively simple in comparison with the intellectual and mental level of students of this period. However, it is precisely in the simplicity and directness of this language that the cultural characteristics of English-language teaching materials surface more distinctly.  相似文献

This study examines the influence of graphing calculators on a teacher's assessment practices in a college algebra course. The researcher focused on three techniques of alternative assessment: oral discourse, teacher observations, and problem‐solving investigations. The teacher's assessment practices were revealed during 6 weeks of classroom observations. The researcher examined the teacher's assessment practices before and after the teacher used graphing calculators as tools for teaching and learning mathematics. The use of the graphing calculators enhanced the teacher's assessment practices as related to oral discourse, classroom observations, and problem‐solving investigations. The results of the study indicate the potential for technological tools to influence teachers’ practices of alternative assessment in the mathematics classroom.  相似文献

This is a narrative of the author reading—with his students in a remedial English class at a community college in Brooklyn, New York—a story by Leo Tolstoy about a shoemaker's awakening through reading. As it recounts the students' reactions and the instructor's remarks, it quotes the story ‘Where Love Is, There God Is Also’ piece by piece. For the instructor, Tolstoy's story is problematic, for the story is patently religious (and his students are widely divergent in their beliefs, he is an atheist and the college is emphatically and legally secular), and yet its deeper significance, he hopes, is that it dramatises the deep thinking and feeling that only reading seems able to provide.  相似文献

Grandma, I Love You, said a bright-eyed three-year-old to her foster grandparent at the day care center. This happened one winter morning as I was observing a group of day care children for a research project on children's perceptions about elderly persons. This article investigates the use of the contextual orientation to the Bible—which seeks to understand the Bible as a product of its time, and in the context of historical-critical biblical scholarship—as a deliberate, significant aspect of a teacher's overall approach to reaching Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s. Through classroom observation and qualitative interviews, the authors (one of whom is the teacher in the article) explore how this approach affects student learning and engagement and facilitates a meaningful attachment to and understanding of the Bible. This article also reflects one teacher's examination of his own teaching orientation and its expressions, serving as a possible model for other such investigations.  相似文献

Phantomism is a juvenile social pathology that destroys the social standards set by the Revolution. Its catalyst was the severe endogenous economic crisis brought about by the international socialist plan. That plan created a dangerous socioideological tension in Cuba, which began a socioeconomic restructuring at that time, aimed at creating continuity for the socialist plan. Phantomism is expressed as a retrograde alternative and is reinforced by an alienated individualism that emphasizes consumerism. It is linked to a bourgeois ideology, which is contrary to the humanism of Cuban socialism.  相似文献
