Jef Verschueren is the representative of European Continental pragmatic thought. He puts forward a new theory that pragmatics is a perspective on language and he uses the theory of adaptation to analyze pragmatics."The general concern for the study of linguistic pragmatics is to understand the meaningful functioning of a language as a dynamic process operating on context-structure relationships at various levels of salience"(Verschuren 2000:69).The focal points in contexts are the utterer and the interpreter, for the physical, social and mental aspects of contexts are activated by language users’cognitive processes.Verschueren divided interpreter’s roles into five types:addressee, side participant,bystander,listener-in and eavesdropper, which can explain the adaptation of context and language choices. This is also applicable in college English classroom as the English class is also a context. At present students taught at the same time by the same teacher do not master the knowledge at the same level. One of the reason is that students are not engaged in the class at the same level.According to the Verschueren’s theory, the best English teaching class is one that each student in the addressee of teachers.Addressee is a metaphor which means everyone should follow the teachers’explanation carefully and take part in the teaching activities. It has something to do with interaction theory, which considers students as active individuals but not passive receivers. One of the common interaction patterns is questioning. In this thesis, the question how to make students addresses through adoption of questioning approach in college English class will be researched.  相似文献

Information is one of the important assets in today's society. Information and communication technologies (ICT) may be particularly important for students as one of the tools shaping global citizens. The objective of this study was to investigate the use of ICT by high school students (n=122) from a developing country, like Ukraine. The Global Citizenship Survey was used and modified for the purpose of this study (Lima, 2006). Initial analyses indicated that the majority of the students use computers at school at least once per week. However, most of the students do not use the Intemet at school on a weekly basis. At the same time, the majority of students from Ukraine have computers at home and more than half of students have the Internet access at home. A chi-square analysis revealed statistically significant gender differences in the use of computers and the lnternet.  相似文献

Over the years I have gradually come to realize that poor handling ofthe relationship of language and cultures on the part of the teacher mightbe one of the causes of the students'cultural mistakes.Teachers may focuson linguistic forms and not remember the people who use the forms in or-dinary communication.Another cause might be the students’(and teache-rs')unfamiliarity with the differences between the Chinese and Englishlanguages and their respective cultures. As a result, many a student withgood grades in school in China performs poorly in social situation.  相似文献

The role of textbooks,as one important channel between teachers and students, has always aroused scholars’interests, but what indeed are the roles of textbook for students and teachers? This paper aims to evaluate a listening textbook that is used by English major university students in China.Three research questions are proposed which are:(1) What are the students’per ceptions about the listening textbook? (2) What are the teachers’opinions about the listening textbook? (3) To what extent do students and teachers perceptions match? In order to answer these three research questions, questionnaires were designed for both students and teachers to obtain the data. This study is supported both qualitatively and quantitatively. The data of this research suggested that both students and teachers have found advantages of this listening textbook, which they may find helpful for their learning and teaching, but they are also not satisfied with some aspects of the textbook, which they think need further improvement. The students’and teachers’opinions to some extent have reached some agreement about the textbook, but students may not be so enthusiastic about the textbook, while the teachers may show much reliance on the text book. This study has its limitations, but it also provides some insights for teachers and textbook writers.  相似文献

The propagation and full application of the three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) software by mechanical engineering and industrial design courses is a fact. However, many students find it difficult because they have not previously developed a spatial vision and do not understand the internal process of the software to build 3D models. This work aims at showing the image generation process on the computer screen, inducing the students to, mentally, generate 3D model projections, improving their spatial vision, and speeding up the process of interpreting orthogonal and isometric perspective views.  相似文献

Aiming at solving the problems of lacking listening skills practices in English class. The paper is written for two purposes. Firstly, it intends to drive the attention of present obstacles in English listening teaching. Most children in China have their English classes at schools, however, they don’t learn too much English they just learn about English. After years of learning the problems come up: the college students who have passed CET4(College English Test) and CET6 are unable to speak or listen to native speakers. Secondly, it tries to introduce the listening skills and the methods of teaching it. Language is not a knowledge but a skill, to learn language does not mean to know as many rules and information about it, but is to practice from the first day your learn it and do practice as much as possible.  相似文献

1 Introduction In the teaching process,it is very common that the English grades differ markedly in one class even if the students have the same teacher who teaches them the same English knowledge. It is not all because of their intelligence level. It is due to the students’ non-intellectual factors in a large degree. The learners’ non-intellectual factors refer to the psychological factors such as motivation, will, interest, emotion and habit. This paper mainly focuses on how to cultivate students’ non-intellectual factors to improve the learning quality.  相似文献
