Two prospective studies examined a theoretical model wherein exposure to victimization, resulting from early behavioral risk, heightens children's social alienation and subsequent deviant peer affiliation (DPA). Across Study 1 (298 girls, 287 boys; K–7th grade; 5–12 years) and Study 2 (338 girls, 298 boys; 2nd–6th grade; 8–12 years), children, parents, peers, and teachers reported on children's externalizing behavior and internalizing symptoms, peer victimization, social alienation, and DPA. Path analyses supported the proposed pathway: Peer victimization predicted social alienation, which then predicted DPA. Early externalizing behavior set this path in motion and made an independent contribution to DPA. This research identifies an important pathway through which externalizing behavior and consequent peer victimization launch children onto a risky social trajectory.  相似文献

Characteristics of shock attenuation during fatigued running   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
The aim of this study was to examine shock attenuation before and after completing a maximal effort graded exercise test while running on a treadmill. Ten individuals ran before and after a maximal graded exercise test with running speed controlled between conditions. Transfer functions were calculated using surface-mounted accelerometers to represent shock attenuation. An accelerometer was mounted on the distal aspect of the tibia and another on the anterior aspect of the forehead. Ten strides were analysed in each condition for all participants. Paired t-tests were used to compare each dependent variable (shock attenuation, stride length, rate of oxygen consumption) between conditions (running before vs after the exercise test). Oxygen consumption was 16% greater when running after the graded exercise test (47.9 +/- 5.0 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1); mean+/-s) than when running before it (41.1 +/- 2.7 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) (P < 0.05). Stride length was similar during running before (2.71 +/- 0.15 m) and after (2.75 +/- 0.17 m) the graded exercise test (P > 0.05). Shock attenuation was, on average, 12% lower during running after (-9.8 +/- 2.6 dB) than before (-11.3 +/- 2.7 dB) the graded exercise test (P < 0.05). We conclude that less shock was attenuated during fatigued than non-fatigued running and that only subtle changes in stride length were made while fatigued.  相似文献

Sixty-one undergraduate and graduate students in psychology, economics, and librarianship provided the subject terms they would use to search an academic library catalog in 30 hypothetical search instances. The subject indexing tested was that of the Library of Congress, which is used in most large libraries in the United States. The large number of responses on each search instance enabled an unusually detailed, systematic evaluation of various aspects of the LC approach. Results (including evidence of many inadequacies) were produced on see references, subject/place order, noun/adjective order, specific entry, direct entry, and a priori probability of subject term matching. It was found to be very difficult to develop a good strategy for searching a catalog using LC subject headings. The overriding conclusion was that the LC subject cataloging approach is badly in need of rationalization.  相似文献

Student satisfaction is both an important and yet controversial issue within the higher education sector, which is typically measured through policy-driven metrics such as the National Student Survey. However, less is understood about the qualities of a satisfying student experience ‘as lived’ from the perspective of the student, thus questioning the adequacy of such measures. In response to this, the current study used student-driven photographic elicitation as a means of more adequately capturing the holistic student experience. This entailed nine final-year undergraduate psychology students who each gathered a series of photos, which formed the basis for discussion in an interview. Thematic analysis of the narratives of the interview discussions revealed several main themes surrounding their experiences. These were: ‘Learning Environment’, ‘Work–Life Balance’ and ‘Wider University Community’. Findings are discussed with reference to the implications of student satisfaction, and national metrics used for measuring it, for institutional policies of recruitment and retention.  相似文献

Previous research has indicated that nonattachment mediates the relationship between mindfulness and the ability to be adaptable. Additionally, adaptability has been associated with increased academic engagement and subsequently, higher grades. The current study combined these findings into a single model. In an undergraduate sample (N?=?725), the results indicated that mindfulness and nonattachment were directly associated with greater adaptability and engagement. Increased adaptability was also directly associated with increased engagement, and engagement was associated with higher grades. Therefore, mindfulness and nonattachment were also found to be indirectly associated, albeit weakly, with higher grades. The current findings, therefore, add to the literature by indicating that mindfulness and nonattachment are both worthy of consideration in future research on student outcomes.  相似文献
