This study addresses limitations of previous research examining the effects of the counselor's use of interpretation on participants' perceptions of counselor expertness. Three factors (interpretation content, degree of interpretation discrepancy, and interpretation type) were crossed in a 2×2×2 factorial design. A main effect for interpretation type (propositional versus semantic interpretation) and an interacton between degree of discrepancy and interpretation type were found. These findings suggest that the relationship between the use of interpretations and perceptions of counselor expertness may be more complex than indicated by earlier research.  相似文献

This study investigated the perceptions of beginning counselor trainees regarding the therapeutic effectiveness of Carl Rogers, Fritz Perls, and Albert Ellis. Twenty-nine students viewed three stimulus films and rated the therapeutic effectiveness of the therapists. The students were subsequently rank-ordered by their prepracticum course instructors on the basis of skill development and assigned to one of three groups (high, middle, or low.) The results of a two-way analysis of variance revealed an overall higher evaluation for Rogers as compared to either Perls or Ellis. Further analysis revealed that the top-ranked group of counselor trainees rated Perls significantly higher than the other two and that the bottom-ranked group ranked Ellis higher than Perls or Rogers. Several conclusions concerning the use of stimulus films for demonstration and training purposes in counselor education are drawn.  相似文献

There is confusion in pupil services about the duties and the titles of those individuals given systemwide responsibilities. Regardless of the size of the organization, leadership responsibility in a program of pupil personnel services is basically a task of administration. This article proposes a system consisting of titles and duties for various levels of organization. In conclusion, a six-step outline of suggestions for clarifying the confusion is offered.  相似文献

An affirmative action questionnaire was sent to randomly selected counselor education programs listed in the 1977 Counselor Education Drectory. The questionnaire asked respondents to identify the activities used by their programs to recruit, admit, and support members of four minority groups. This article reports the results of the survey which indicate that in the absence of federal mandates, counselor education programs engage in a limited number of affirmative action activities.  相似文献

Chairpersons of the counselor education programs listed in Counselor Preparation, 1980 were surveyed to determine ethnic minority representation among students and faculty. Compared to population statistics, Asian Americans were found to be underrepresented as faculty and Blacks and Hispanics were found to be underrepresented as both students and faculty. Compared to nonminorities in counselor education, minorities (particularly Blacks and Hispanics) are more likely to be enrolled in part-time and master's degree programs and less likely to be enrolled in full-time and doctoral degree programs. Minority faculty are more likely to hold nonacademic, nontenured, and part-time appointments than are nonminority faculty. For the most part, minority faculty are distributed regionally in the same proportion as are minority students. The difficulty in achieving parity on counselor education faculties in a period of no growth is discussed.  相似文献

This study examines the relationship of cognitive complexity, counselor anxiety, and client disability condition to accurate empathy on the part of students in training. A sample (n = 28) of students in a graduate counseling program observed a series of eight vignettes of counseling interviews (four clients with disabilities and four without disabilities) and reported a verbal counseling response to a client statement. A significant main effect was found for the cognitive complexity variable only (p < .05). A significant interaction among cognitive complexity, anxiety, and client disability condition (p < .01) indicated that all three factors interact to influence empathy. Implications for research and the training of counselors are discussed.  相似文献
