Abstract Interactives—computers and other multimedia components, physical manipulatives (including whole‐body and tabletop activities), and simulations—occur in all types of museums. There is considerable interest in the nature of the learning that happens when visitors use interactives. Museum professionals have enlisted constructivist theory to support the notion that interactive elements are invaluable components of any exhibition experience, and are effective learning tools that enable active visitor engagement. Interactives are also seen as vital to sustaining institutional image and expanding institutional popularity. Despite the increasing use of interactives in exhibitions and the substantial investments being made in their design and maintenance, there is a paucity of research as to whether these constructivist assumptions are supported. There is little work exploring visitors' perceptions of specific types of interactives, or the role of interactivity in the visitor experience generally. Museum staff thus have a limited ability to make informed decisions about the level and type of interactivity that might enhance exhibition experiences. This paper describes a collaborative effort in 2001 by researchers at the Powerhouse Museum (PHM), Sydney; the Institute for Learning Innovation (the Institute), Annapolis, Maryland; and Curtin University of Technology (Curtin) and Scitech Discovery Centre (Scitech), both in Perth, Western Australia. The Recipe 4 Success preventive intervention targeted multiple factors critical to the health and well-being of toddlers living in poverty. This randomized controlled trial, which was embedded within Early Head Start home visits for 12 weeks, included 242 racially and ethnically diverse families (51% girls; toddler mean age = 2.58 years; data collected 2016–2019). Compared to parents in usual practice home visits, parents in Recipe 4 Success displayed greater sensitive scaffolding of toddlers' learning and more responsive food parenting practices (Cohen's d = .21–.30). Toddlers in Recipe 4 Success exhibited greater self-regulation and had healthier eating habits (Cohen's d = |.16–.35|). Results highlight the value of Recipe 4 Success in promoting parent and toddler behavior change that could have life-long benefits. 相似文献

A random sample of 55 WRAT-R protocols, completed by nine practitioners for a metropolitan school district in the South, was analyzed for examiner errors. All nine practitioners made errors, which occurred on 95% of the protocols and averaged 3.0 errors per protocol. The most frequent errors included failures to obtain a correct ceiling or basal, and failures to record examinees' responses. Correction of the examiner errors resulted in changes in 11 standard scores, and 3 additional changes in grade equivalent scores. These results indicate that WRAT-R administration and scoring are not as objective as assumed by the test developers, and that examiner errors on this test can adversely affect diagnostic decisions. 相似文献

There is much interest among cultural economists in assessing the effects of heritage preservation policies. There has been
less interest in modeling the policy choices made in historic and cultural landmark preservation. This article builds an economic
model of a landmark designation that highlights the tensions between the interests of owners of cultural amenities and the
interests of the neighboring community. We perform empirical tests by estimating a discrete choice model for landmark preservation
using data from Chicago, combining the Chicago Historical Resources Survey of over 17,000 historic structures with property
sales, Census, and other geographic data. The data allow us to explain why some properties were designated landmarks (or landmark
districts) and others were not. The results identify the influence of property characteristics, local socio-economic factors,
and measures of historic and cultural quality. The results emphasize the political economy of implementing preservation policies. 相似文献

We conduct an empirical analysis of the effect on the auction price of a Canadian painting of the age of the painter at the
time of creation of the painting. We consider over two hundred artists, active over the entire history of Canadian art, who
are pooled in the estimation of a hedonic regression in which a polynomial function in age enters as a regressor along with
several other control variables. We consider the possibility that the age–price relationship has changed over time by: (a)
estimating separate age–price functions for three generational groups of artists—those born before 1880, between 1880 and
1920, and after 1920 and thus coming of age in the world of post-war ‘contemporary art’ and (b) estimating a parameterization
where the shape of the age–price profile is permitted to change continuously depending on the year of birth of the artist.
Our principal result is that artists born more recently tend to ‘peak’ earlier in their careers than those of previous generations. 相似文献
