On September 7, 1983, the U.S. Department of Education announced a nationwide adult literacy initiative designed “... to promote functional literacy for the entire adult populations.” The department is committed to conducting several activities to attack and solve the problem of adult literacy. Two of the activities pertain specifically to postsecondary education. They are: ? working with postsecondary education institutions to develop demonstration programs utilizing college work-study students in adult literacy programs; ? promoting college student involvement through literacy tutoring experiences in college courses and through student volunteerism. This study investigated the importance of discipline variations in understanding faculty turnover behaviors. A representative
sample of university faculty in Research and Doctoral universities was obtained from a national database. Faculty members,
self-identified into a primary academic area, were grouped into eight discipline clusters according to an established framework.
Multiple regression models were constructed to examine within each cluster the relative importance of a list of factors that
have been identified to be related to faculty turnover. Cross-discipline comparisons of within-cluster variable prioritization
revealed substantial discipline variations with regard to the major factors that are critical to faculty turnover. The findings
produced evidence that discipline-specific information was indispensable to institutional administrators and policy makers

A significant body of literature on international education examines the experiences of international students in the host country. There is however a critical lack of empirical work that investigates the dynamic and complex positioning of international students within the current education-migration nexus that prevails international education in countries such as Australia, Canada and the UK. This paper addresses an important but under-researched area of the education-migration landscape by examining how the stereotyping of students as mere ‘migration hunters’ may impact their study and work experiences. It draws on a four-year research project funded by the Australian Research Council that includes more than 150 interviews and fieldwork in the Australian vocational education context. Positioning theory is used as a conceptual framework to analyse how generalising international students as ‘mere migration hunters’ has led to the disconnectedness, vulnerability and marginalization of the group of international students participating in this research. 相似文献
