Little research has examined whether the effects of race or socioeconomic status (SES) on educational attitudes differ by gender, limiting knowledge of unique vulnerabilities occurring at the intersection of multiple social statuses. Using data from 182 sixth-graders, interactions between gender, race/ethnicity, and SES in predicting educational aspirations, persistence, views of science, and educational self-efficacy are examined. African American and Latino boys express more negative attitudes relative to (1) higher-SES boys, (2) White boys, and (3) girls of any race/ethnicity or level of SES. The intersection of multiple inequalities in education across the early life course is discussed. 相似文献

The mission of research within The Magazine Group of the Children's Television Workshop is fourfold: (a) to ensure that each editorial product is comprehensible to and developmentally appropriate for its intended target audience, (b) to conduct formative and summative evaluations of editorial material for the Group's editors, (c) to keep all staff members of The Magazine Group apprised of the latest academic research in child development and education, and (d) to serve as an in-house advertising and market-research arm for the publisher. This paper introduces the field of Sport Analytics and discusses its relevance for sports sciences. The term originates from the US and has become a synonym for the collection, analysis and application of sports data in many countries. There are different goals and interests, which vary according to the different stakeholders. Professional sport clubs use the data for match analysis, regulation of training load, prevention of injuries and supporting transfer decisions. Media companies differentiate themselves from other market players by enhancing their sports program using innovative statistics. The world’s largest information technology (IT) companies use sports data as a showcase for their data analytics products. In addition, the academic world can benefit from the huge volumes of information. The data enable sport science to analyse the structure of sports performance, test the effectiveness of interventions and find new paradigms for modelling. Computer science can use the data to improve their algorithms for big data analytics, data mining and machine learning. Many scientific conferences, textbooks, special issues in scientific journals and a subject-specific journal are indicators of the ongoing academic institutionalization of Sports Analytics. In order to establish compatibility to international structures and to improve job prospects for its graduates, sport science should adapt to this international evolution of the field. 相似文献

Drawing primarily on interview data from a 5-year ethnography on the school experiences of Mexican immigrant children in a New Latino Diaspora community, we explore how their teachers understood and responded to increasing deportation-based immigration practices affecting children’s lives. We illustrate how teachers fell along a continuum regarding their desire and success in pushing beyond their comfort zones to create spaces in which they learned from, and built on, students’ immigration experiences. We argue for teacher education that prepares educators to become border crossers who engage with aspects of difference, such as immigration status, that are rarely discussed in schools. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the specific factors teachers consider when assigning students’ report card grades. Data were gathered from 943 K-12 teachers from five school districts in a southeastern state in the United States who completed the Teachers’ Grading Practices Survey. Analyses focused on how teachers weigh different factors in determining report card grades, and if these factors and weights differ among teachers who teach at different grade levels and have different amounts of classroom experience. Results revealed statistically significant differences among teachers at different grade levels but no differences associated with teachers’ years of experience and no interaction effect. Differences by grade level were evident in teachers’ consideration of both cognitive and non-cognitive factors of students’ performance. Implications are discussed for improving grading policies and practices, teacher education and teacher professional development. 相似文献
