Crash (P. Haggis, 2004) depicts the intersection of race, ethnicity, religion, and social class in a culturally and politically charged environment. The result is a film that places the viewer in situations that are void of simple right and wrong solutions. The authors describe an experiential learning activity that is based on using Crash to stimulate student awareness and reflection as a part of their affective development. Reactions from students to the use of Crash as a teaching tool are shared. Implications for counselor educators and supervisors electing to use this film to address multicultural counseling competence are presented. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The present paper describes a comparative study of ten special schools for pupils with moderate learning difficulties in England and Wales. Qualitative analysis of interview data and curriculum documentation collected from the schools provide a model of the curriculum process which is firmly grounded in the data. Comparisons across the categories of the model indicate strong differences between the schools in certain categories, e.g. use of objectives, specification of curriculum intention, monitoring of pupil progress and curriculum evaluation. 相似文献

The Boder Test may represent a viable screening instrument for the identification of dyslexia and dyslexic subtypes. Proportions of the 30 LD children studied identified by Boder's classification system as dysphonetic (63.3%), dyseidetic (6.7%), and mixed dysphonetic-dyseidetic (13.3%) were similar to those reported in earlier studies. Neuropsychological characteristics associated with the Boder categories were consistent with the literature: Significantly fewer dysphonetic readers were represented in the V > and Spatial<Sequential IQ groups, and left-handedness and left-hand tapping preference were overrepresented in the mixed dyslexic category. Black children who had been identified as learning disabled on the basis of other tests were categorized as normal readers by the Boder, suggesting its possible use as a nonbiased measure of reading. 相似文献

This study evaluated emerging adult effects of the PROmoting School-Community-University Partnerships to Enhance Resilience (PROSPER) universal prevention delivery system implemented in middle schools. Twenty-eight rural school districts were randomized to intervention and control conditions, with 1985 nineteen-year-old participants (90.6% White, 54.1% female) evaluated through age 25. Intent-to-treat, multi-level, point-in-time analyses of covariance and growth analyses were conducted. Outcomes were assessed with self-report measures of substance misuse (lifetime, current, frequency) and conduct problem behaviors. Analyses showed very limited point-in-time effects; there were growth pattern effects on measures of illicit drugs, non-prescribed drugs, cigarettes, and drug problems. When risk moderation was observed, it favored higher-risk participants. These emerging adult effects concerning slower growth of lifetime misuse combine with more robust adolescent stage findings to support PROSPER’s public health value. 相似文献
