Highlighting the unique educational needs of gifted and high ability preschoolers, this article guides the reader to consider the characteristics of young gifted children along with appropriate assessment practices in planning educational programming. A triarchic approach to programs and services for gifted preschoolers is outlined with major emphases on an integrated curriculum, ongoing evaluation, and parental involvement. The shortage of qualified managers to assign to overseas positions has necessitated rethinking of the viable candidates pools. A relatively new group of global managers have emerged, inpatriate managers. These are foreign nationals and third-country nationals who are relocated to the organization's domestic headquarters to serve as a “linking-pin” to the global marketplace. This paper examines challenges to effectively incorporating these inpatriate managers into the domestic organization. The various issues with inpatriate manager adjustment to the domestic macro and organizational culture are examined. In 2015, Houston, Texas voters defeated a bill that would have expanded civil rights to previously unprotected groups, including transgender people. Using a critical framing analysis, this paper investigates how the city’s daily newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, covered the debate over the bill. As such, this study found that the newspaper used almost exclusively elite sources, provided almost no in-depth context, and employed four frames—Equality, Bathroom Boogeyman, Bureaucratic Process, and Religious Freedom—in its Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) coverage. Together, these elements aligned to form a daunting challenge to an effort to protect one of society’s most vulnerable groups: the transgender community.  相似文献

This article attempts to develop an objective method for assigning weights to questions on examinations. Departing from the statistical discrimination approach of classical test theory, we use a domain-dependent approach. Our method is developed using cognitive science. Previously formulated methods of task analysis are used to break up a domain into segments that are independent pieces of knowledge. A Pareto distribution is used to assign relative weights. This distribution is selected simply because it is ubiquitous in the social sciences. Word frequency rankings, business firm sizes and ranking scientists by number of publications are all distributions that are skewed, or Pareto distributions. Optimistically, we are hoping that ranking knowledge elements by importance will follow the same distribution.  相似文献
