Measurement of ground reaction force (GRF) in running provides a direct indication of the loads to which the body is subjected
at each foot-ground contact, and can provide an objective explanation for performance outcomes. Traditionally, the collection
of three orthogonal component GRF data in running requires an athlete to complete a series of return loops along a laboratory
based runway, within which a force platform is embedded, in order to collect data from a discrete footfall. The major disadvantages
associated with this GRF data collection methodology include the inability to assess multiple consecutive foot contacts and
the fact that measurements are typically confined to the laboratory. The objective of this research was to investigate the
potential for wearable instrumentation to be employed, in conjunction with artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple linear
regression (MLR) models, for the estimation of GRF in middle distance running. A modular wearable data acquisition system
was developed to acquire in-shoe force (ISF) data. Matched data sets from wearable instrumentation (source data) and force
plate (target data) records were collected from elite middle-distance runners under controlled laboratory conditions for the
purposes of ANN and MLR model development (MD) and model validation (MV).
In terms of statistical measures of prediction accuracy the MLR model was found to provide a superior level of accuracy for
the prediction of the vertical and medio-lateral components of GRF and alternatively, the ANN model provided the most accurate
predictions of the anterior-posterior component of GRF. The prediction accuracy of each component of GRF was found to be governed
by the inherent signal variability, in which case the vertical and anterior-posterior components were more reliable and subsequently
predicted significantly more accurately than the medio-lateral component.
The emerging capability for obtaining continuous GRF records from wearable instrumentation has the potential to permit unprecedented
quantification of training stress and competition demands in running. 相似文献

This study had two purposes. First, we sought to compare the overall effectiveness of different types of fluency interventions for students with learning disabilities (LD). Second, we attempted to identify how individual‐ and class‐level characteristics moderated each intervention's effectiveness. We used multilevel random coefficient modeling to analyze results from 30 single‐subject studies involving 107 students with or at risk for LD. Doing so allowed us to assess the intervention's impact in terms of both intercept‐ (i.e., mean difference between study phases) and slope‐level (i.e., rate of growth) changes. Results indicated that two motivation‐focused interventions were significantly more effective than other types of interventions across gender, age, and placement. Retrospective perceptions and causal beliefs regarding the temporal patterning of precompetitive psychological responses were examined in 12 elite rugby union players. Composite sequence analysis resulted in a series of temporal networks to describe participants' cognitive, affective, and behavioural responses in a time-to-event paradigm. Match-related cognitions remained stable in the lead up to competition, while perceptions of physical symptoms peaked at the onset of performance. Affective responses were associated with feelings of anxiety and tension in the early temporal phases but excitement, confidence, and efficacy in team-mates directly before competition. Behavioural themes described activities associated with technical and physical preparation, familiarization with environmental conditions, and strategies to control activation states early on or directly before competition. The findings highlight the idiosyncratic and dynamic nature of the temporal patterning of precompetitive responses and the influence that perceptions of the team have upon individual preparation for performance. Funding agencies in Canada are attempting to break down the organizational boundaries between disciplines to promote interdisciplinary
research and foster the integration of the social sciences into the health research field. This paper explores the extent
to which biomedical and clinician scientists’ perceptions of social science research operate as a cultural boundary to the
inclusion of social scientists into this field. Results indicated that cultural boundaries may impede social scientists’ entry
into the health research field through three modalities: (1) biomedical and clinician scientists’ unfavourable and ambivalent
posture towards social science research; (2) their opposition to a resource increase for the social sciences; and (3) clinician
scientists procedural assessment criteria for social science. The paper also discusses the merits and limitations of Tom Gieryn’s
concept of boundary-work for studying social dynamics within the field of science.

The primary roles for nutrition in sprints are for recovery from training and competition and influencing training adaptations. Sprint success is determined largely by the power-to-mass ratio, so sprinters aim to increase muscle mass and power. However, extra mass that does not increase power may be detrimental. Energy and protein intake are important for increasing muscle mass. If energy balance is maintained, increased mass and strength are possible on a wide range of protein intakes, so energy intake is crucial. Most sprinters likely consume ample protein. The quantity of energy and protein intake necessary for optimal training adaptations depends on the individual athlete and training demands; specific recommendations for all sprinters are, at best, useless, and are potentially harmful. However, if carbohydrate and fat intake are sufficient to maintain energy levels, then increased protein intake is unlikely to be detrimental. The type and timing of protein intake and nutrients ingested concurrently must be considered when designing optimal nutritional strategies for increasing muscle mass and power. On race day, athletes should avoid foods that result in gastrointestinal discomfort, dehydration or sluggishness. Several supplements potentially influence sprint training or performance. Beta-alanine and bicarbonate may be useful as buffering agents in longer sprints. Creatine may be efficacious for increasing muscle mass and strength and perhaps increasing intensity of repeat sprint performance during training. 相似文献
