The vital task of the libraries attached to the educational institutions of higher learning is the collection development of information resources as per the requirements of the users. The Central Library of IITs have long been recognized their responsibility to support the study and research of their parent institutions with the rich collection development of information resources both in print as well as electronic format to cater the needs of the academic communities as per the multi-disciplinary and diverse academic program of the respective institutions where greater emphasis on collection of serials, the essential and integral component of updated scholarly communication. The study provides a vivid picture about the current status of serials collection in the libraries attached to the Premier Institutions of India in the field of science and technology to boost up the academic performances.  相似文献

The key to agricultural development in the eastern region of India, where problems of excess water and water scarcity coexist, is the scientific management of water resources with the adoption of recommended water-management technologies. A vast networking of infrastructure for the development and dissemination of water- management technologies have been designed since the very inception of planned economic change. Despite these concerted efforts, a large number of recommended technologies are either being adopted in piece-meal or not at all. The research and extension systems have been generating and disseminating technologies, therefore, it was felt worthwhile to assess the feasibility and appropriateness of recommended tecnologies as perceived in the first instance by the personnel of the research system and followed by the extension personnel. These steps were felt to be a precursor to screen the recommended technologies for their dissemination and evaluation in different farming systems. The assessment of recommended water-management technologies was performed after their documentation from different organisations working in the field of water management in two eastern India states viz. Orissa and West Bengal. The perception of 30 personnel members of the research system regarding the feasibility of these technologies elucidated that out of 86 documented recommended water-management technologies, 40 were having feasibility scores of ≥ 4.0; 8 technologies with score £ 3.0 and the rest of the 38 technologies with a score between 3.0 and 4.0 on a feasibility continuum range from 1.0 (not feasible) to 5.0 (highly feasible). Out of 40 recommended technologies (already assessed as highly feasible by the research personnel), extension personnel have perceived 16 and 10 technologies as highly appropriate and feasible, respectively. While six and four technologies were found to be less appropriate and feasible, respectively. Correlation of all nine indicators of appropriateness with feasibility of technologies was significant. Five indicators of appropriateness viz. simplicity, physical compatibility, production sustainability, cultural compatibility and cost together constituted 36.8 per cent of the total variation in feasibility with the ‘t’ values and ‘F’ values being significant. It indicates that not appropriateness of technologies alone but other factors influence the feasibility of technologies.  相似文献

They are used for the determination of the age of organic rocks and other fossil assemblages and also help to establish relationships be-tween rock units. Index fossils of plant origin are very rare. Hyper-ferrous state is the result of multiple transfusions, whereby the iron excess in such conditions may be toxic to the organism. Patients suffering from thalassemia receive multiple transfusions. In the eastern part of India, both β0-thalassemia and heterozygous Eβ-thalassemia occur. This paper expresses the hyper-ferrous state, leading to iron overload in these two conditions and also reports the increased generation of free radicals, consequent to the iron overload.  相似文献

In the academic literature, private supplementary tutoring is widely known as shadow education, in part because it is commonly indistinct and because much of its content mimics that in mainstream schooling. Around the world, shadow education has become an important part of students' lives and in some places it diminishes the body that it mimics. This paper builds on studies that have focused on relationships between schooling and shadow education. The paper uses the conceptual lens of privatisation-by-default, and employs qualitative methods to understand the roles of both government and private schools in promoting tutoring in West Bengal, India. It finds that substantial proportions of shadow education emanate from and are fostered by school systems. On the one hand private tutoring as a form of privatisation-by-default gives freedom of choice, but on the other hand it limits choice. Further, school-bred tutoring can have a negative backwash on school systems. As such, private supplementary tutoring is not just a neutral shadow but affects the body that it imitates. The study recommends researchers to look back at schools to gain a deeper understanding of private supplementary tutoring.  相似文献

This article presents a brief account of the origin of the modern concept of force-matter interaction and the transitory concepts. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is an inflammatory condition that may run a rapid fatal course and calls for prompt diagnosis. Early intervention with steroids and other immunosuppressive drugs can contain the disease process and favours positive outcome. Ferritin ≥500 ng/ml is a HLH diagnostic criterion. We evaluated the diagnostic potential of admission ferritin, in children with HLH. Pediatric patients of a referral teaching hospital from Feb 2010–Oct 2013 having been investigated for ferritin on admission were included. HLH was confirmed when patients had clinical features and met 5/8 diagnostic criteria of the revised 2004 HLH guidelines. Ferritin was estimated on Cobas e411 by electrochemiluminiscence, with a measuring range of 0.5–2000 ng/ml. Dilutions were made when linearity exceeded and absolute values were reported. 905 on-admission ferritin investigations were reviewed out of which 346 values ≥500 ng/ml. Hyperferritinemia was seen in HLH/MAS (macrophage activation syndrome) [HLH group, median age 4 year 4 month, 59% male] and in systemic lupus erythematosus, sepsis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, impending HLH, haemolytic anemias and malignancy [non-HLH group, median age 4 year 6 month, 60% male]. Of 346, 72 cases of hyperferritinemia were diagnosed with secondary HLH while one patient had primary HLH. 13/73 patients expired. The median ferritin level of the HLH group was significantly higher [6556 (2402–11,734) ng/ml] compared to non-HLH group [median 1175 (943–2000) ng/ml] (p < 0.0001). Receiver operator characteristics curve analysis revealed optimal admission ferritin of 3120 ng/ml as the cut-off with sensitivity of 70% and specificity of 88.9% for HLH diagnosis, exceeding the currently prescribed cut-off of 500 ng/ml. Hyperferritinemia below 3120 ng/ml has higher negative predictive value to rule out secondary HLH on admission in the study population of children predominantly diagnosed with infection associated HLH than the prescribed cut-off as per the 2004 guidelines. This may prove to be beneficial to alert physicians for prompt intervention which considerably decreases mortality in this often fatal condition.  相似文献

Yellow crystalline mercurous nitrite was first reported by P C Rây1 in 1896. In 1966, Allred et al reported that using Rây’s method, they had isolated the compound but that it turned into some ‘unidentified solid’ immediately. This resulted in a controversy that lasted four decades on whether it was possible to isolate mercury(I) nitrite or not. In 2011, A Chakravorty et al, on the 150th birth anniversary of Rây, delineated the synthesis as well as X-ray structural characterization of mercurous nitrite.  相似文献
