Using cultural studies and media ecology perspectives, I analyze data collected from 15 Generation Xers about how they remember and understand the roles played by family and news media in the development of their politics-what is usually referred to as political socialization. This study suggests that news media are understood best not as discrete agents of influence, but rather as environments within which individuals develop politically. It finds that news media are of subtle-but-fundamentally powerful ecological importance, not just because news media engagement interrelates with, and takes place in the context of, institutions and phenomena like the family, but because all aspects of the larger culture and society-including family-are themselves shaped by mass media. Future scholarship should denote and more fully explore this fruitful tension between the cultural studies theorization of subjectivity and agency, and the media ecology theorization of media as environments with structuring biases. 相似文献

This study surveyed a sample of 188 elementary teachers with respect to their preference for information regarding educational planning, in particular information captured with dynamic testing procedures. The influence of teachers’ experience and sense of efficacy on teachers’ preferences was also investigated. Results indicated teachers’ preferences for dynamically gathered information regarding children’s learning processes, next to standard information such as a diagnosis. Appreciation for dynamic testing information appeared to be relatively higher for those teachers with longer teaching experience, but not related to teachers’ sense of efficacy. Findings are discussed with regard to their implications for both diagnostic and teaching practices. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to analyze pedaling cadence, pedal forces, and muscle activation of triathletes during cycling to exhaustion. Fourteen triathletes were assessed at the power output level relative to their maximal oxygen uptake (355 +/- 23 W). Cadence, pedal forces, and muscle activation were analyzed during start, middle, and end test stages. Normal and tangential forces increased from the start to the end of the test (-288 +/- 33 to -352 +/- 42 N and -79 +/- 45 to -124 +/- 68 N, respectively) accompanied by a decrease in cadence (96 +/- 5 to 86 +/- 6 rpm). Muscle activation increased from the start to the middle and the end in the gluteus maximus (27 +/- 5.5% and 76 +/- 9.3%) and in the vastus lateralis (13 +/- 3.5% and 27 +/- 4.4%), similar increase was observed from the start to the end in the rectus femoris and the vastus medialis (50 +/- 9.3% and 20 +/- 5.7%, respectively). Greater normal force along with enhanced activation of knee and hip extensor muscles is linked with fatigue and declines in cadence of triathletes during cycling to exhaustion. 相似文献

The paper considers a class of neural networks where flux-controlled dynamic memristors are used in the neurons and finite concentrated delays are accounted for in the interconnections. Goal of the paper is to thoroughly analyze the nonlinear dynamics both in the flux-charge domain and in the current-voltage domain. In particular, a condition that is expressed in the form of a linear matrix inequality, and involves the interconnection matrix, the delayed interconnection matrix, and the memristor nonlinearity, is given ensuring that in the flux-charge domain the networks possess a unique globally exponentially stable equilibrium point. The same condition is shown to ensure exponential convergence of each trajectory toward an equilibrium point in the voltage-current domain. Moreover, when a steady state is reached, all voltages, currents and power in the networks vanish, while the memristors act as nonvolatile memories keeping the result of computation, i.e., the asymptotic values of fluxes. Differences with existing results on stability of other classes of delayed memristor neural networks, and potential advantages over traditional neural networks operating in the typical voltage-current domain, are discussed. 相似文献
