In-vitro effect of a diabetic serum factor on the generation of superoxide free radical,it’s quenching ability and lysosomal degranulation in normal polymorpho nuclear leucocytes

Normal polymorpho nuclear leucocytes (PMNL) when assaulted with diabetic serum factorin-vitro, recorded enhanced generation of oxygen free radical, and lysosomal degranulation. It also caused a decrease in the cytosolic superoxide dismutase activity. Time-plot studies revealed PMNL susceptibility to diabetic serum factor for oxidative injury and concomitant decrease in SOD, consequential for lysosomal degranulation.  相似文献   

Membrane potentials of hypertensive,diabetic and arthritic polymorphonuclear leukocytes

We studied the membrane potentials of normal, essential hypertensive, diabetes mellitus and rheumatoid arthritic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL). It was found that diabetic PMNL were grossly hyperpolarized as compared to normal. On the other hand hypertensive and arthritic PMNL elicited a significant depolarization. The PMNL obtained from treated hypertensive patients showed considerable recovery where as partial recovery was evidenced in membrane potentials in diabetic and arthritic PMNL. Non-linear dynamic response of circular plates subjected to transient loads

The Chebyshev polynomials have been applied to the large amplitude motions of circular plates under transient loads, with and without damping. The non- linear differential equations are linearized by using Taylor series expansions for one of the terms. It is shown that there is good agreement between the results obtained by the present technique and the available results. The advantage of this technique is essentially due to the fact that the Chebyshev polynomials are rapidly converging polynomials. It is shown that very accurate results can be obtained with only four terms of the Chebyshev series which may not be possible with conventional methods.  相似文献   

Effect of L-carnitine Supplementation on Nutritional Status and Physical Performance Under Calorie Restriction

L-carnitine is popular as a potential ergogenic aid because of its role in the conversion of fat into energy. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of short term supplementation of L-carnitine on metabolic markers and physical efficiency tests under short term calorie restriction. Male albino rats were divided into four groups (n = 12 in each)—control, calorie restricted (CR for 5 days, 25 % of basal food intake), L-carnitine supplemented (CAR, given orally for 5 days at a dose of 100 mg/kg), CR with L-carnitine supplementation (CR + CAR). Food intake and body weight of the rats were measured along with biochemical variables like blood glucose, tissue glycogen, plasma and muscle protein and enzymatic activities of CPT-1 (carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1) and AMP kinase. Results demonstrated that L-carnitine caused marked increase in muscle glycogen, plasma protein, CPT-1 activity and swim time of rats (P < 0.05) on short term supplementation. In addition to the substantive effects caused by CR alone, L-carnitine under CR significantly affected muscle glycogen, plasma protein, CPT-1 activity and AMP kinase (P < 0.05). Short term CR along with L-carnitine also resulted in increased swim time of rats than control, CR and L-carnitine treated rats (P < 0.05). The present study was an attempt towards developing an approach for better adherence to dietary restriction regimen, with the use of L-carnitine.  相似文献   

Calling orientations of junior doctors and medical interns in India: cultural,occupational and relational perspectives

This study examines the factors that shape calling orientations within the Indian context. Based on the narratives of 72 junior doctors and medical interns, it is found that participants identify with harbouring a calling both prior and subsequent to occupational entry. Although factors such as self-recognition of talent and sensemaking of work as destiny play a role, familial communication is found to be particularly influential in the formation of a calling outlook. A relational view of callings associated with generativity and family legacy is thus highlighted. The study additionally compares the career stories of individuals who do (n = 29) and those who do not (n = 43) frame their occupation as a calling. Participants with a calling orientation are found to have a strong affective attachment to the profession, further influenced by familial communication and value internalization. The findings also demonstrate that the calling experience is malleable and can evolve through work/life experiences.  相似文献   

Antidiabetic and antioxidant effects of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Picrorhiza kurrooa</Emphasis> rhizome extracts in diabetic rats

Picrorhiza kurrooa is mentioned in Ayurveda for the treatment of many disorders, but it has not been subjected to systematic scientific investigations to assess its antidiabetic effect. The oral administration of aqueous and methanol extracts of P. kurrooa rhizomes (250 and 500 mg / kg body weight / day) for 15 days significantly reduced blood glucose, glycosylated haemoglobin and increased total hemoglobin, plasma insulin in alloxan-induced diabetes in albino rats. The treatment also showed significant correction in the level of nitric oxide radicals, superoxide radicals, peroxynitrite radical, lipid peroxidation, glutathione, glutathione reductase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase in the pancreas of alloxan diabetic rats.  相似文献
