The growth in professional learning is opening up many new opportunities for the application of e‐learning to the world of continuing professional development (CPD). CPD programmes require professionals to engage in annual programmes of professional development, and in some cases revalidation or recertification. To date, most of this activity has been off‐line. Increasingly, CPD requirements will be satisfied through the use of learning resources available on‐line or packaged into specially tailored e‐learning courses. Societies and professional associations – as the primary managers and coordinators of CPD programmes – are in a strong position to expand upon their existing Web‐based initiatives to deliver a new generation of e‐learning services to their members. 相似文献

The goal of this article is to explain empirical risk-taking behavior in sports from an individual cognitive modeling perspective. A basketball task was used in which participants viewed four video options that varied in the degree of associated risk. The participants were independently classified by scores on the Questionnaire for Assessing Prospective Action Orientation and State Orientation in Success, Failure, and Planning Situations as action-oriented or state-oriented decision makers. The results of the experiment show that action-oriented players shoot faster and more often to the basket and that state-oriented players prefer to pass to a playmaker more often. Four versions of a computational model of decision making, Decision Field Theory, were compared to evaluate whether behavioral differences depend on the focus of attention, the initial preferences, threshold values, or an approach-avoidance interpretation of the task. Different starting preferences explained individual choices and decision times most accurately. Risk taking in basketball shooting behavior can be best explained by different preferences for starting values for risky and safe options caused by different levels of action orientation. 相似文献

This paper examines how the free distribution of electronic information on the internet is rapidly changing the commercial environment for small to medium‐sized print publishers, and suggests some recommendations for publishers in the process of establishing their own web strategies. It begins by addressing the concept of the ‘network economy’ and the way in which electronic networks have changed the fundamental economics of many businesses. Bitmaps are a useful, but storage voracious, component of many information retrieval systems. Earlier efforts to compress bitmaps were based on models of bit generation, particularly Markov models. While these permitted considerable reduction in storage, the short memory of Markov models may limit their compression efficiency. In this paper we accept the state orientation of Markov models, but introduce a Bayesian approach to assess the state; the analysis is based on data accumulating in a growing window. The paper describes the details of the probabilistic assumptions governing the Bayesian analysis, as well as the protocol for controlling the window that receives the data. That attractive people are more successful has been proved for many areas of life in the past. However, the effects of the attractiveness of professional athletes have not been examined yet. This is surprising as it is comparatively simple to measure the actual performance of this group of people and to control their performance in statistical models. In the study, 438 professional football players were examined who played in the 18 teams of the German Bundesliga in 2007 and 2008. It was analyzed how their facial and bodily attractiveness influence their market value. Bodily attractiveness was operationalized using the Body Mass Index, facial attractiveness was measured using the Truth of Consensus Method. Statistical analysis shows that both facial and bodily attractiveness have considerable effects on a player’s market value even if his actual performance is controlled. 相似文献
