In the framework of their first SOCRATES/ERASMUS applications in1996, institutions of higher education in Europe were asked toformulate and submit a European Policy Statement (EPS) expressingthe managerial and strategic thrust of their European goals andactivities for which they wanted to receive support. As this wasa new exercise for many institutions, especially from countries inwhich mission statements are not the rule, the resulting EPSs oftencontained a number of inconsistencies with regard to institutionalstrategies and policies and with regard to the relationship betweeninstitutional and European goals and policies. The contributiondiscusses typical problems of the strategic management ofinternationalisation processes at higher education institutionsby presenting results of an analysis of these EPSs. It also drawssome conclusions regarding implications for future developments inthe context of institutional management of change and the conceptof the learning organisation. 相似文献

An introductory geology course is described that both introduces geologic principles and explores the ways in which geology can have an underlying influence on human events that is much deeper and more subtle than the distribution of resource wealth and geologic hazards. The course aims primarily to help students draw connections between geology and the non-science topics with which many of them are more familiar. It revolves around a series of geologic topics that have direct relevance to particular pre-historic, historical, political, or economic issues in Africa. It is also designed to teach students rigorous geology in a setting that minimizes lecture and emphasizes instead hands-on investigative activities, self- and peer-teaching, and group-learning. Electronic learning delivery systems discussed include satellite networks, teleconferencing, Internet/Intranet networks, desktop multimedia, electronic performance support systems (EPSS), transportable audio/video (i.e., systems relying primarily on physically transportable audio-and videotaped materials), and the electronically enhanced classroom. Selecting one of these systems can be a daunting task when all relevant issues are considered. The selection model described in this article narrows the choices to the system most likely to be instructionally, economically, and technologically appropriate. After establishing working definitions, the model suggests four stages of user activity: 1) Assessing several important overall factors, including outcomes and conditions of learning, economics, synchronicity and location, and organizational culture; 2) Rating the importance of several learning system attributes to the training project; 3) Selecting the system that most ideally supports the attributes which the user has rated as important; and finally, 4) Validating the selection by reviewing the final choice in light of first stage overall factors. 相似文献

The paper reports the results of a longitudinal case study conducted in Australia and New Zealand. The study compares the reading and comprehension age of children in their fifth and sixth years in school. Reading and comprehension ages of 121 children who had Reading Recovery intervention at age 6 were compared with those of a Comparison group of 121 children, drawn from the same classes who, at age 6 years, had been better performers in literacy. Reading and comprehension assessment was conducted with the use of the Neale Analysis of Reading and analysed by means of a t‐test. Results show that the mean reading age of ex‐Reading Recovery children was nearly 12 months superior to that of the Comparison group and that the mean comprehension age was nearly 13 months superior at very highly significant levels. The results strongly suggest that Reading Recovery tuition at age 6 years enabled the 121 ex‐Reading Recovery children to make greater progress in literacy than children in the Comparison group. 相似文献

This paper discusses a study of teacher researchers undertaking research into self-chosen aspects of their own mathematics teaching at the secondary level. The study used qualitative methods to explore the processes and practices of this research and the issues which it raised. Emergent theory of teachers' research activity fitted strongly with a view of action research relating to critical reflective practice. The teachers were seen as reflective practitioners, developing knowledge and awareness through enhanced metacognitive activity. Their research was characterised as evolutionary, in contrast with established patterns of action research. Despite differences in the substance of each teacher's research there were commonalities which provide insights into the conducting of research by teachers and its potential for the development of mathematics teaching. The special nature of mathematics in this research, and the role of external researchers in the project, were important considerations. 相似文献
