This paper aims to shift the debate on the Learning Society away from the normative focus which has predominated hitherto. Rather than beginning with questions about what a Learning Society ought to constitute, we seek to engage with the patterns of participation in learning through the life‐course and their determinants. Our discussion begins with an examination of the way in which the official discourse of the Learning Society is dominated by human capital theory. The critical evaluation of the latter is thus a serious undertaking. Human capital theory involves an unwarranted abstraction of economic behaviour from social relations more widely; participation in lifetime learning cannot be understood in terms of the narrow calculation of utility maximization. This critique provides the basis for the development of a more satisfactory theoretical account, in which learning behaviour is conceived as the product of individual calculation and active choice, but within parameters set by both access to learning opportunities and collective norms. These parameters, by their very nature, vary systematically over space and time: accordingly, place and history must play a central role in any adequate theorization. We conclude that this kind of theoretical approach has important implications not only for empirical research, but also for strategies aimed at creating a Learning Society. 相似文献

Previously, forward dynamic models of the golf swing have been planar, two-dimensional (2D) representations. Research on live
golfers has consistently demonstrated that the downswing is not planar. This paper introduces and evaluates the validity of
a 3D six-segment forward dynamics model of a golfer. The model incorporates a flexible club shaft and a variable swing plane.
A genetic algorithm was developed to optimise the coordination of the model’s mathematically represented muscles (torque generators)
in order to maximise clubhead speed at impact. The kinematic and kinetic results confirmed previous findings on the proximal
to distal sequencing of joints and the muscles powering those joints. The validity of the mathematical model was supported
through comparisons of the model’s swing kinematics and kinetics with those of a live golfer. 相似文献

e-Research is a rapidly growing research area, both in terms of publications and in terms of funding. In this article we argue that it is necessary to reconceptualize the ways in which we seek to measure and understand e-Research by developing a sociology of knowledge based on our understanding of how science has been transformed historically and shifted into online forms. Next, we report data which allows the examination of e-Research through a variety of traces in order to begin to understand how knowledge in the realm of e-Research has been and is being constructed. These data indicate that e-Research has had a variable impact in different fields of research. We argue that only an overall account of the scale and scope of e-Research within and between different fields makes it possible to identify the organizational coherence and diffuseness of e-Research in terms of its socio-technical networks, and thus to identify the contributions of e-Research to various research fronts in the online production of knowledge. 相似文献

Parafoveal word processing was examined during Korean reading. Twenty-four native speakers of Korean read sentences in two
conditions while their eye movements were being monitored. The boundary paradigm (Rayner, 1975) was used to create a mismatch between characters displayed before and after an eye movement contingent display change. In
the first condition, the critical previews were correct case markers in terms of syntactic category (e.g., object marker for
an object noun) but with a phonologically incorrect form (e.g., using 를 instead of 을 when the preceding noun ends with a consonant).
In the second condition, incorrect case markers in terms of syntactic category were used, creating a semantic mismatch between
preview and target. Results include a small but significant parafovea-on-fovea effect on the preceding fixation, combined
with a large effect on late measures of target word reading when a syntactically incorrect preview was presented. These results
indicate that skilled Korean readers are quite sensitive to high-level linguistic information available in the parafovea. 相似文献
