We examine how global pressures for competitiveness and gender equality have merged into a discourse of ‘inclusive excellence’ in the twenty-first century and shaped three recent German higher education programmes. After placing these programmes in the larger discourse about gender inequalities, we focus on how they adapt current global concerns about both being ‘the best’ and increasing ‘gender equality’ in locally specific ways, a process called vernacularisation. German equality advocates used ‘meeting international standards’ as leverage, drew on self-governance norms among universities, used formal gender plans as mechanisms to direct change, and set up competition to legitimate intervention. This specific incremental policy path for increasing women's status in German universities also mobilised the national funding agency and local gender equality officers as key actors, and placed particular emphasis on family friendliness as the expression of organisational commitment to gender equality.  相似文献

The Arab-Palestinian minority in Israel, one-fifth of the country's population, has been underrepresented in Israeli institutions of higher education since the establishment of the state. This article focuses on the authors’ shared aim of promoting diversity and multiculturalism in institutions of higher education in Israel. It first introduces Arab marginalisation within Israeli society as a whole. Subsequently, it offers a critical overview of existing data and research on the challenges faced by young Arab-Palestinians in higher education institutions in Israel. Based on this indispensable analysis, which clearly shows the numerous obstacles that await Arab-Palestinians on their path to graduation, the article goes on to suggest some required changes. Presenting some useful policy transformations and courses of action, it subsequently introduces multicultural academia as a better conceptual and practical framework for achieving inclusive education.  相似文献

20世纪,中国师范教育发展经历了由设置独立的“定向型”师范体系向设置多元的“开放型”教师培训体系的过渡,尽管过个过渡才刚刚起步,但陈旧落后的教师培训理念严重阻碍了中国师范教育的发展,延缓了向多元“开放型”教师培训体系过渡的进程。导致这一现象的原因,除了中国传统文化中对教师行业的经视外,师范教育本身的专业化程度过低也是一个重要因素。面对教师专业化的世界趋势,中国师资培训该向何处去,是今天教育改革中值得深思的问题。  相似文献

This article examines the history and future prospects of the formation of Internet studies. It is argued that although a traditional field or disciplinary structure is not yet in place, the current interdisciplinary aggregations may have the makings of institutionalized academic units. Through comparison with the institutionalization of other interdisiciplinary areas of study (primarily that of communication and cultural studies), an argument is made for the need to create a firm intellectual foundation on which an Internet/studies can be built. Such a foundation should not only include sufficient and clear understanding of cognate fields but also include a foregrounding of power (as theoretical construct and practice) as a means of engaging the field in the world.  相似文献

从学术的内在理路出发,以近代学术发生发展的内在驱动及学术个性为主要切入点,就其研究路径进行了一些方法论的思考。作为“研究的研究”,学术史研究应注重其学术性与历史性的双重特点,作为与外在因素复杂缠绕的近代学术,更应该将内在学术驱动作为研究基点,突破泛政治及思想宣传史的谱系,建构真实的学术认知。要做到这些,就必须在近代学术史的研究中进行“.古今中西”的打通,从时间和学脉追寻上而言,需从“古代研究的研究”上进行追踪;从空间和近代理论工具的利用等方面来看,则应注重中学发展的西学背景,从而对近代学术的面貌获得整体性的理解。此外,我们还需谨防当下立场对过去的选择性解读,应以“同情之同情、了解之了解”的态度来探讨近代学人的心路与学路,对他们的学思之路展开深度的了解,给予人文性的关照。  相似文献

In this column, the author summarizes research studies relevant to normal birth. The studies summarized include a large trial evaluating the effect of prior vaginal births after a cesarean on outcomes in subsequent births; a study linking umbilical cord blood pH with intellectual outcomes in childhood; and a prospective trial evaluating the effect of routine antenatal nonstress testing on maternal anxiety. The author also highlights four articles about normal birth in a recent nursing journal series dedicated to the topic.  相似文献

This paper examines the strategic use of temporary employment contracts in dealing with supply uncertainty in the form of employee ability that is slow to reveal itself, for example in academia where there exist significant time lags in demonstration of research ability. A temporary contract is modeled as a real option, specifically as a combination of put option and stock, known as a protective put. The option price is modeled as relief from project work, e.g. teaching, and the exercise price is modeled as a target value, e.g. requisite number of publications. The model provides an explanation for contrasting use of temporary contracts in research and in teaching intensive institutions, and for teaching only and research only staff. The model has relevance in other employment situations where there is a time-lag between recruitment and revelation of employee ability, for example in young professional, top executive and political positions.  相似文献

In this paper, we argue that the power structure that lies within the UK elite universities dictates a division of labour through which the inflows of overseas academics into the UK academic labour markets are skewed towards these elite academic institutions where they are employed primarily in research-only posts. These posts, are less valued and are difficult to fill by UK academics. This explains the over-concentration non-UK academics within these posts and suggests that it is not a coincidence, but a result of a division of labour in which they are ‘used’ as a replacement labour.  相似文献
