Restoring order: Interpreting suicide through a Burkean lens

This Burkean analysis of suicide notes argues that suicide is motivated by an innate human desire for “Order.” The notes analyzed in this study were composed by individuals who portrayed their lives as filled with much chaos and pain. In Burke's words, they viewed their lives as highly disordered. Their final communiques indicate that they saw suicide as a way to overcome the tremendous feelings of guilt and/or shame associated with that disorder. In a smaller number of cases, the deceased suggested that suicide allowed them to transcend their painful circumstances, thereby allowing them to avoid the assignment of guilt or shame. As the rhetoric of suicide notes reveals, suicide functions as an agency by which their authors believe a sense of “control” can be reestablished and, ultimately, “Order” restored to their worlds.  相似文献

为了研究北温带湿地不同退水时间条件下土壤种质资源的特征,在3个不同的水位条件下,通过幼苗萌发法对野鸭湖湿地近10年来退水湿地面积中土壤种子资源的分布格局进行了分析.结果表明,土壤中的种子在不同的退水时间条件下,变化明显:种子的密度在退水5～7年时达到最大值2.389×104ind./m2,在退水7～10年时最小,为1.352×104ind./m2;萌发植物的物种数量与之相一致,其中广泛分布类型植物与水生植物的萌发在退水5～7年时同样达到最大值,但萌发的湿生植物的数量在退水1～3年时,达到最大值;湿地中土壤种子在0～5cm和5～10cm分层上,萌发的物种数差异不显著,但在萌发数量上有明显分层现象.本文还结合以上研究结果,分析了在不同退水时间条件下,土壤种质资源产生差异的原因,进而讨论了土壤种子资源在湿地恢复和湿地保护过程中的重要作用.  相似文献

湿地具有多种生态服务功能,其保护和恢复事关国家生态安全、经济社会可持续发展和生存福祉。文章系统总结了我国湿地资源现状、湿地保护工作取得的成效,以期支撑湿地生态系统保护与管理决策。遥感监测结果显示,2020年中国湿地面积约为41.2×104 km2,位居亚洲第一。党的十八大以来,我国湿地面积整体呈恢复态势,保障水安全的作用更加明显,湿地生物多样性保护成效显著,湿地碳汇功能潜力巨大,湿地合理利用模式不断创新,保护体系日趋完善,恢复技术体系基本形成。为推进新时期湿地保护工作发展,建议实施面向国家重大需求的湿地保护战略行动,完善湿地科学基础理论和学科体系,创新完善湿地保护修复技术和工程措施,加强建设湿地研究人才高地和湿地管理咨询智库。  相似文献   

High-Resolution Ultrasonic Imaging of Artworks with Seismic Interferometry for Their Conservation and Restoration

Artworks are an inseparable part of the cultural heritage of societies and provide us with a unique look at cultural developments through time and space. For the best possible conservation, it is paramount to know the constituent materials, condition, and construction techniques of the objects (e.g. painting on wood, fresco, sculpture). Such information is required not only for the surfaces of the objects, but also for the interiors; in the imaging discipline, this is known as depth imaging. Here, we introduce a new method for non-invasive depth imaging as an alternative to traditional non-invasive methods when the latter cannot be used to obtain the required information. We use ultrasonic transverse-wave transmission measurements and turn them into virtual reflection measurements. We achieve this by applying seismic interferometry with active sources. Obtaining reflection measurements by seismic interferometry allows us to apply an advanced imaging technique – prestack depth migration, as used in seismic exploration – to produce a high-resolution depth image of an object. We apply our method to ultrasonic data recorded on a mockup of a painting on a wooden support. We validate our method by comparing our results with an image from X-ray computed tomography.  相似文献

通过对烧料礓石、烧阿嘎土和欧洲水硬石灰NHL5矿物成分及这三种胶凝材料分别与石英砂、粉煤灰做填料的浆液结石体物理力学特性的分析对比,发现烧料礓石、烧阿嘎土、水硬石灰NHL5的化学组成主要是气性胶凝材料石灰CaO(或Ca(OH)_2)和水硬性胶凝材料β-硅酸钙(β-C_2S)及铝硅酸钙(C_2AS)。试验研究表明,这些材料的结石体有相近的弹性波速和适宜的初凝速度及终凝速度,有强的抗冻融性、水稳定性、耐碱性介质及耐温湿度变化对其强度的影响性。同时,三种胶凝材料结石体孔隙率大,既有好的透气、透水性,又有好的与岩土文物本体结合的兼容性,适宜做古代墓室壁画地仗的修复加固材料。  相似文献
