The objective of the study was to observe the correlation between oxidative stress and antioxidants in myocardial infarct
patients with normal lipid profile. In the present study investigation of lipid peroxidation and antioxidants were done in
patients. This study was carried out on 165 AMI patients, (123 males and 42 females). The control group consisted on 165 normal
healthy age-sex matched subjects (123 males and 42 females). Levels of Superoxide dismutase, Glutathione Peroxidase, Catalase,
Malondialdehyde and Conjugated dienes were measured. The study found Superoxide dismutase, Glutathione Peroxidase, Catalase
were significantly lower in activities (p<0.001) in AMI patients compared to controls. The markers of lipid peroxidation namely
Malondialdehyde and Conjugated dienes were higher in AMI patients as compared to controls (p<0.001). The present study is
clearly suggestive of increased oxidative stress in AMI patients. Oxidative stress appears as an etiological factor for myocardial
infraction as a consequence the free radical scavengers levels are lowered in AMI patient. 相似文献

The study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant activity and effect of Cymbopogon martinii (Roxb.) Wats. (Poaceae) leaves on the activity of monoamine oxidase and kinetics of enzyme inhibition. Ethanol extract of
C. martinii and rat brain mitochondrial monoamine oxidase preparation ware used to study the kinetics of enzyme inhibition using double
reciprocal Lineweaver–Burk plot. The DPPH was used as a source of free radical to evaluate antioxidant potential. It is observed
that, the ethanolic extract of C. martinii inhibits the monoamine oxidase activity with competitive mode of inhibition. The V
max (0.01 mM/min) remained constant while, K
m varied from 21.00 ± 1.1, 43.33 ± 1.5 and 83.33 ± 1.4 mM for 100–500 μg/ml concentration of C. martinii. The K
i values were calculated to be 90.00 ± 0.87, 75.00 ± 0.69, 68.18 ± 0.68 μg for 100–500 μg/ml concentration of C. martini. It also shows a significant DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazine) radical scavenging (IC50 = 0.34 ± 0.05 mg/ml) and reducing activity (IC50 = 0.70 ± 0.22 mg/ml). The C. martini can be considered as a possible source of MAO inhibitor used in the treatment of depression and other neurological disorders. 相似文献

The objective of the present study was to investigate the antioxidant status and the extent of oxidative DNA damage in lymphocytes and their relation with essential hypertension (EHT). A total of 100 South Indian subjects aged 30–65 were included for the study. Of these 50 were normotensive controls (group-1) with blood pressure ≥120/80 mm Hg, 50 were newly diagnosed (group-2) and were not on any antihypertensive drugs, but had systolic blood pressure ranging between 140 and 160 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure 95–100 mmHg and 50 newly diagnosed essential hypertensive patients underwent drug therapy for 1 year was considered as group-3. Enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants significantly decreased and lymphocyte DNA damage was significantly increased in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients compared with control group. The major decrease in DNA damage and significant improvement in enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants were observed after 1 year of antihypertensive therapy in treated group compared with newly diagnosed hypertensive patients. Total antioxidant status and lymphocyte DNA damage showed a strong negative correlation in all the three groups. Essential hypertension associated with oxidative stress which in turn causes genotoxic susceptibility to variety of disease including cancer. In the absence of DNA repair process and DNA checkpoint mechanisms, the genomic integrity is susceptible to extensive damage. In our study, increased oxidative DNA damage and decreased antioxidant levels were frequently observed in the newly diagnosed essential hypertensive patients, suggesting that oxidative stress is important in the pathogenesis of EHT. Therefore, the present study has additional clinical implication. Further investigations with large number of patients along with antioxidant supplement are highly warranted. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antihyperglycemic and antilipidperoxidative effects of ethanolic seed extract
ofTephrosia purpurea (TpEt) in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Hyperglycemia associated with an altered hexokinase and glucose 6 phosphatase
activities, elevated lipid peroxidation, disturbed enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants status were observed in streptozotocin
induced diabetic rats. Oral administration of “TpEt” at a dose of 300mg/kg bw showed significant antihyperglcemic and antilipidperoxidative
effects as well as increased the activities of enzymatic antioxidants and levels of non enzymatic antioxidants. We also noticed
that the antihyperglycemic effect of plant drug (TpEt) was comparable to that of the reference drug glibenclamide. Our results
clearly indicate that “TpEt” has potent antihyperglycemic and antilipidperoxidative effects in streptozotocin induced diabetic
rats and therefore further studies are warranted to isolate and characterize the bioactive antidiabetic principles from “TpEt”. 相似文献

Osteoporosis encompasses a wide spectrum of conditions associated with imbalance of osteoclastic and osteoblastic activities.
The increased activity of osteoclasts leads to increased free radical formation and hence lipid peroxidation. Present study
probes into the role of antioxidants as a palliative treatment for osteoporosis. It involved 50 healthy controls and 75 clinically
diagnosed osteoporosis patients. Both the groups underwent baseline assessment of biochemical markers viz. osteoblastic markers:
serum Alkaline phosphatase. Free or ionic calcium and Inorganic phosphorus, osteoclastic markers: serum Tartarate resistant
acid phosphatase and Malondialdehyde and the antioxidant status: serum Superoxide dismutase and Erythrocyte reduced glutathione.
The osteoporotic group was then divided into groups A (Vitamin E-Evinal 400 mg), B (Vitamin C-Celin 500 mg), C (Vitamin E+C-Evinal+Celin)
for antioxidant supplementation for a period of 90 days. The results reveal that there is significant fall in concentration
of serum MDA (p<0.001), TrACP (p<0.01). Improvement in antioxidant status is reflected by significant rise in concentration
of serum SOD (p<0.001) and erythrocyte GSH (p<0.001) after 90 days of antioxidant supplementation in osteoporosis. The findings
indicate that on the whole bone status improved with prolonged antioxidant vitamin supplementation, which can be used as a
palliative treatment for osteoporosis. The efficacy is not affected whether the vitamins are administered singly or conjointly. 相似文献

Despite enormous research in the field of hypertension, its pathophysiology still remains largely unresolved and appears to
be multifactorial. In the present communication, we have analyzed the status of nitric oxide (NO) in the patients with essential
hypertension and age matched controls. We have found that the levels of NO are lowered in essential hypertension. The normalization
of blood pressure by administration of antihypertensive therapy causes rise in the NO level indicating that perturbed NO status
in essential hypertension is reversible. Addition of antioxidant to the antihypertensive drugs causes a further, though non
significant, rise in the levels of NO, suggesting that antioxidants may be combined with antihypertensive drugs as adjunct
in the management of essential hypertension. 相似文献

Antioxidants are a small group of substances that protect living cells from the destructive consequences of powerful oxidizing
intermediates that can be formed from oxygen. Situations in which pro-oxidant mechanisms within the body are more active than
the antioxidant mechanisms (oxidative stress) predispose and contribute to the pathogenesis of several ailments in various
organs of the body. In the eye, pro-oxidant factors have been blamed for the causation of diseases such as age related macular
degeneration and senile cataract. The role of pro-oxidants in the genesis of certain diseases is well established however,
the effectivity of antioxidants provided to the body by dietary supplementation is inconclusive. In this article we provide
a review on the basic concepts of antioxidant-pro-oxidant interaction in relation to its effects on the eye. 相似文献

Berries are a good source of natural antioxidants. In the present study, the total antioxidant capacity and phenolic composition
of three berry fruits (blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry) cultivated in Nanjing were investigated. Blueberry, with a Trolox
equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) value of 14.98 mmol Trolox/100 g dry weight (DW), exhibited the strongest total antioxidant
capacity using both the 2,2-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl
(DPPH) methods. Blueberry also had the highest total phenolic content (TPC, 9.44 mg gallic acid/g DW), total flavonoid content
(TFC, 36.08 mg rutin/g DW), and total anthocyanidin content (TAC, 24.38 mg catechin/g DW). A preliminary analysis using high
performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) showed that the blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry samples tested contained a
range of phenolic acids (including gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, ellagic acid, and cinnamic acid) and various types of flavonoids (flavone: luteolin; flavonols:
rutin, myricetin, quercetrin, and quercetin; flavanols: gallocatechin, epigallocatechin, catechin, and catechin gallate; anthocyanidins:
malvidin-3-galactoside, malvidin-3-glucoside, and cyanidin). In particular, the blueberries had high levels of proanthocyanidins
and anthocyanidins, which might be responsible for their strong antioxidant activities. These results indicate a potential
market role for berries (especially blueberries) as a functional food ingredient or nutraceutical. 相似文献

In this research, the conditions for extraction of phenolics from leaves of Ficus virens were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The extraction abilities of phenolics (EAP) and flavonoids (EAF), the 2,2-diphenyl-1-pierylhydrazyl (DPPH) free-radical scavenging potential, and the ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) were used as quality indicators. The results of single-factor experiments showed that temperature, ethanol concentration, extraction time, and the number of extraction cycles were the main influencing variables, and these provided key information for the central composite design. The results of RSM fitted well to a second degree polynomial model and more than 98% of the variability was explained. The ideal extraction conditions for EAP, EAF, DPPH free-radical scavenging potential, and FRAP were obtained. Considering the four quality indicators overall, the ideal extraction conditions were 58% ethanol at 57 °C for 37 min with three extraction cycles. At the ideal extraction conditions, the values of EAP, EAF, DPPH free-radical scavenging potential, and FRAP were 5.72%, 3.09%, 58.88 mg ascorbic acid equivalent (AAE)/g dry weight (DW), and 15.86 mg AAE/g DW, respectively. In addition, linear correlations were observed between EAP, EAF, and antioxidant potential. 相似文献
