Researching Polish and Polish-American Historical Newspapers and Periodicals in International Digital Collections: Opportunities and Challenges

This article provides an overview of past and present developments in the digitization of Polish and Polish-American historical newspapers and periodicals. The focus is on the collections held by Polish libraries, including the National Library. The article examines access to and searchability of major digital collections and provides examples of digitized titles. The Validity of Global Press Ratings

This study examines year-by-year correlations between Freedom House and Reporters Sans Frontières' (RSF) press freedom scores for countries over a 13-year period (2002–2014). The goal of the study is to test the hypothesis that, further into the age of digital disclosure, as press abuses and harassment of journalists are more widely reported, press freedom ranking systems are gradually becoming more precise and, therefore, correlations between the two indices will strengthen over time. To further assess concurrent validity of the indices, correlations between both indices and scores on the United Nations Human Development Index are also provided. The study also examines changes in the indices' rankings of countries over time within six world regions: the Middle East and North Africa, the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. In so doing, this study adds a degree of understanding to the validity of two press freedom indices that are routinely cited in journalistic reportage and trade journals, as well as many scholarly publications. Results suggest that the two organizations' scoring of press freedom has become significantly more correlated in the years 2002–2014, and the primary cause of the increased agreement is that RSF's ratings became substantially more aligned with Freedom House's scores during this period. Both indices' ratings are significantly correlated with countries' United Nations Human Development Index scores.  相似文献

目的 :探讨HSP70和HSP2 7在食管癌组织中的表达情况。方法 :采用SP免疫组织化学染色检测 5 9例食管癌组织中HSP70和HSP2 7。结果 :HSP70和HSP2 7的总阳性率分别为 6 4.4 1% (38/5 9)和 5 8.6 2 % (34/5 8) ,HSP70和HSP2 7的共同阳性率为 30 .0 0 % (9/30 )。结论 :在食管癌中HSP70和HSP2 7普遍表达。  相似文献   

Football with Friends? How the German Sporting Press Covered the German–Danish Sports Collaboration, 1939–1944

Abstract

This paper concludes that a number of different discourses marked the coverage of Danish–German sports collaboration during the Second World War in German newspapers, sports magazines and newsreels. From the outbreak of the Second World War to the German occupation of Denmark on 9 April 1940, the discourses cover neutrality and friendship with Germany. After the invasion of Denmark, a discourse of Nordic sentiments became very important in the communications of the press, with Danish athletes portrayed as Nordic citizens, which some circles of German society could interpret as a euphemism for the Nazi idea of a strong Aryan Scandinavia. During the autumn of 1941, the rising strain on Germany’s resources made the sports media a supplier of success. The discourse of a strong Germany replaced the previous discourses. As German–Danish sporting events ceased in 1942, Danish sport alone would still make occasional appearances in the German media until 1944, providing a German audience with entertainment and distraction.  相似文献

固体热容的统计探讨

根据热力学统计物理理论,主要讨论在低温下,固体的热容随温度的变化规律。一种统计方法是：将固体原子系统看作近独立粒子系统,统计运算固体热容随温度的变化,称为爱因斯坦理论;另一种方法则是：应用系综统计理论,统计运算固体热容随温度的变化情况,称为德拜理论。对两理论的结果进行比较,德拜理论在定量上与实验符合的更好些,而爱因斯坦理论与实验,只是定性上相符合。可以看出,在处理有相互作用的复杂系统时,系综统计理论的方法更占优势,最终统计的结果也更与实验相符。  相似文献
