Beginning teachers’ first years in school have been described as demanding and stressful. In explaining beginning teachers’ stress, previous research mainly focused on either trait-like personality characteristics or general work-related stressors. In contrast, the present study focused on the day-to-day experience. The aim of the current study was (a) to identify the task-related daily uplifts and hassles of beginning teachers, (b) to examine the association of daily uplifts and hassles with teachers’ socio-demographic and personality characteristics, and (c) to investigate the effect of daily uplifts and hassles on teachers’ emotional exhaustion. The sample consisted of 141 beginning teachers up to four years in the profession who completed an online diary for 14 consecutive days. Results showed that most daily uplifts and hassles were related to teaching in class and interacting with colleagues. Both hassles and uplifts showed only a few unsystematic correlations with teachers’ characteristics. However, daily uplifts and hassles significantly explained beginning teachers’ daily emotional exhaustion. 相似文献

Teaching entails many demands of an emotional and interpersonal kind. For the current study, emotional job demands were conceptualised as comprising three components: exposure to emotionally demanding situations, emotional labour (use of deep and surface acting) and work focused on the emotional well-being of others. Both emotional job demands and ‘non-emotional’ job demands (that is, general demands such as those pertaining to workload, time constraints and curriculum issues) were hypothesised to predict emotional exhaustion. Two resources, social support and confidence in one’s own teaching practices (teaching self-efficacy [TSE]), were expected to have main and buffering effects. Primary school teachers (N?=?556) completed an electronic questionnaire measuring all study variables. Consistent with hypotheses, general (non-emotional) job demands, emotional demands, social support and TSE, each uniquely predicted exhaustion. In addition, TSE buffered the negative effect of deep acting on emotional exhaustion. Findings shed light on the complexity of the job factors that contribute to the emotionally exhausting nature of school teaching, and suggest avenues for intervention. In particular, they show that strategies for enhancing professional self-efficacy may help teachers manage some of the emotional demands associated with their role. 相似文献

This study aimed to develop and validate a 2 × 2 Standpoints and Standards measure of EFL (English as a foreign language) teachers’ achievement goals. To this end, 441 teachers were first involved in scale development and validation phase. In the second phase, responses by 194 teachers were used to examine the predictive utility of achievement goals with respect to some correlates such as type of feedback information and emotional exhaustion. Phase 1 results supported validity and reliability of the scale for measuring EFL teachers’ achievement goals. In phase 2, structural equation modeling showed positive patterns for original mastery approach goals, though these goals positively predicted self-validation information. Original mastery avoidance goals also positively associated with emotional exhaustion. Moreover, the results showed negative patterns for original performance goals. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed. 相似文献

对全国范围的职业院校1238 名任课或兼课教师进行调查,比较职业院校不同教师群体的职业倦怠状况.结果发现,职业院校教师职业倦怠的情绪衰竭、低成就感和人格解体的检出率分别为34.2%、15.7%和11.1%,情绪衰竭在婚姻、教龄、职称、兼任行政职务和学校层次方面存在显著差异,低成就感在年龄、职称方面存在显著差异,人格解体在性别、学校层次方面存在显著差异. 相似文献
