Overcoming Obstacles to Preventive Conservation Projects in Italy: With a Case Study of the Savoy Carriage Collection of the Presidency of the Republic

ABSTRACT

Working on preventive conservation in Italy is difficult but not impossible. After small successes and setbacks convincing museums to adopt elements of preventive conservation in the 1990s, the first author (Rossi Doria) was contracted for 15 years to preserve the historic carriages and associated objects of the Presidency of the Republic of Italy. This required patience to overcome or circumvent obstacles such as an inflexible bureaucracy and the absence of any formal recognition of preventive conservation within the educational and contractual systems for heritage conservation. The key factors in his success were the support of the curators, the financial and planning autonomy of the Presidency, and the obvious need for conservation and preservation of these elegant and complex objects. The program began in 2001 with the recovery of the forgotten collection from inappropriate storage in several locations. The entire collection was surveyed and recorded, not only the carriages but also thousands of harnesses, saddles, clothing, fabrics, weapons and memorabilia. Multiple preventive and interventive actions were undertaken, such as pest eradication for all sensitive materials, environmental surveys, and everyday maintenance, as well as complex treatments for the ornate carriages. Analysis by country of published articles on preventive conservation and of IIC membership both confirm that the topic is not as well established in Italy as in many other countries. From Archive,to Access,to Experience––Historical Documents as a Basis for Immersive Experiences

Libraries have been the key to preserving culture and historic legacy for centuries. One such treasure cataloged in The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) Libraries is a collection of over 33,000 Sanborn? Fire Insurance Maps. Originally kept safe in metal drawers, the library has embarked on a journey to digitize this abundance of information, combine it with other media such as photographs, and make it accessible through a web interface. Inspired by these efforts, we accessed this information and took it to the next level. Using state of the art 3D modeling and immersive technologies, we created a historic 3D model and immersive experiences of Penn State, exemplarily for the 1922 campus. The resulting experiences can be accessed through the web but also through head mounted displays (HMDs) and mobile phones in combination with VR viewers such as the Google Cardboard. Additionally, they can be used anywhere in the world or on the campus itself as a way to enable remote and in situ experiences and learning. Immersive experiences let us connect to the past, the present and the future, and as such offer value to digital cultural heritage efforts.  相似文献

This study examines how the Early Years Educators at Play (EYEPlay) professional development (PD) programme supported inclusive learning settings for all children, including English language learners and students with disabilities. The EYEPlay PD model is a year‐long programme that integrates drama strategies into literacy practices within real‐classroom contexts. Inclusive education refers to ensuring equal opportunities to access and participation in learning activities for all students. Cultural‐historical activity theory was used to understand and unpack the drama practices. Twelve semi‐structured focus group interviews were conducted with 19 preschool teachers. The data were analysed via constant‐comparative and interpretive methods. The study findings showed that EYEPlay PD practices enhanced inclusive learning settings for diverse groups of students by increasing access and expanding opportunities to learn, and supporting a positive learning environment.  相似文献

Test security is not an end in itself; it is important because we want to be able to make valid interpretations from test scores. In this article, I propose a framework for comprehensive test security systems: prevention, detection, investigation, and resolution. The article discusses threats to test security, roles and responsibilities, rigorous training for everyone involved in testing, and an evaluation of current practices in test security. I call on everyone responsible for testing programs—the Association of Test Publishers, Council of Chief State School Officers, National Council on Measurement in Education, U.S. Department of Education, and state assessment program managers, their vendors, and the research community—to collaborate on guidelines and practices for security violation prevention, detection, investigation, and resolution.  相似文献   

Psychological complaints reported by sexually abused children during criminal investigations: Istanbul example

The present study aims at describing the psychological complaints reported, as a part of the criminal investigation process, by the victims of sexual abuse as a part of the criminal investigation process, without attempting at reaching a medical diagnosis; and it discusses the relation of these reports with variables such as victim's gender, age and relation to the offender, type and duration of abuse, and parental marital status of the victim. Data is obtained from the statements of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) victims under the age of 15, as taken by Istanbul Juvenile Justice Department between the years 2009 and 2012. The sample consists of 175 cases with a total of 202 victim statements. Through the use of content analysis, the main and sub-categories of themes of the statements were determined. By means of the evaluation of the psychological condition of victims, we evaluated them in two categories: psychological complaints including self-harm and risk taking behaviors and psychological complaints with no self-harm and risk taking behaviors. The statistical analyses yield significant relations between the psychological complaints and children's parental marital status. Analysis of initial statements of sexual abuse victims is important as it may greatly contribute to professionals diagnosing and treating psychological complaints of these victims. It is essential that victims of sexual abuse should receive immediate psychological support starting with the criminal investigation process.  相似文献

采用文献资料法、逻辑演绎法等方法分析边区体育发展的历史动因和历史价值，目的在于揭示其发展与繁荣的历史必然性，准确把握当代体育发展的历史逻辑，并从中获得历史借鉴和启示。陕甘宁边区体育的发展与繁荣，抗日战争与民族意识的觉醒为其提供了精神动力，领导身体力行与专业组织的成立为其提供了组织保障，自己动手丰衣足食的方针与大生产运动为其提供了物质基础，专门的培训机构与体育人才的培养为其提供了技术支持。陕甘宁边区体育具有军事化、大众化和常态化特点，其历史价值在于：增强了军民的体质，提高了部队战斗力；促进了边区人民的空前团结，凝聚了民族力量；为新中国体育的发展开辟了新的路径，积累了宝贵的经验，提供了人才支持和技术基础。陕甘宁边区体育的发展启示我们：当代体育的发展不仅需要崇高的理想来引领、健全的组织来领导、专业的人才来支撑、先进的文化来保障，而且必须具有鲜明的服务“健康中国”“美丽中国”的时代主题和服务服务于广大普罗大众的价值取向。  相似文献

通过文献资料法和案例分析法,以系统论为视角对体育产业高质量发展进行动力机制模型建构,并以江苏体育产业发展经验作为现实考察。研究认为:体育产业高质量发展作为政策性议题,其实践取向应围绕产业的商业性效益逻辑和体育的人文性功能价值进行有机融合,进而推动体育产业在社会主要矛盾、资源配置方式、产业结构模式、经济增长状态4个维度中积极寻求转向。推进体育产业转向高质量发展是一个系统问题,系统运转的关键在于形成运动项目内涵丰富的内生机制、社会进步和经济发展环境的外发机制以及业态载体和空间载体充沛的内外联动机制。当前运动项目产业化内在张力不足、外部环境要素缺位、空间载体培育良莠不齐是现实挑战。提出注重深度内涵式发展、强化务实载体建设、营造适宜外部环境3个由意识理念引领到具体工作抓手的发展思路。  相似文献   

健身指导APP资源及使用行为的调查研究

在移动互联网飞速发展的今天，健身指导APP给人们的运动健身带来了新的指导方式。通过文献资料法收集了当前健身指导APP的资源现状，问卷调查法了解当前健身指导APP的使用现状。研究发现，当下健身指导APP存在的问题有：（1）健身指导APP各类型使用率与实际市场占有率差别较大；（2）健身指导APP付费服务存在缺口；（3）通过健身指导APP达到经常锻炼标准的比例较低。针对这些问题提出以下对策与建议：（1）着力发展资源配置型健身指导APP；（2）丰富健身指导APP付费服务，创造新型盈利点；（3）提高健身指导APP服务水平，加强内容的信息监管；（4）与其他互联网平台相互整合发展，多方位为人们提供健身指导服务。  相似文献

历史认识中人本思想提升的一个理论结果,是史学家、思想家对于包括社会结构与历史演进等理论的思考获得深入。古代中国史学家、思想家对于社会结构与历史演进的理论思考,与早熟、发达的国家制度有关,与古代中国特有的史官制度及其文化形态、史学文化传统也有密切的关系。从公元4世纪到16世纪这1000多年观念的发展来看,史家对于社会结构的认识,大致延续了《史记》、《汉书》的传统,体现了大体一致的对社会结构的认识,即呈天、地、人、政治、经济、刑法、军事、政治制度、选官制度、文化的结构顺序。随着社会的发展,中国的史学家、思想家对于社会结构及其历史演进的理解亦不断深化,尤其是对社会经济及其历史意义的认识更是日益丰富。  相似文献
