Orienting Schools Toward Equity: Subgroup Accountability Pressure and School-Level Responses

Abstract

This article examines school-level responses to subgroup accountability pressure through an ethnographic case study of a school cited for failing to make adequate yearly progress for student subgroups. Concerns about the calculations and measures used to derive the citation and reservations about acting on accountability data delegitimized the citation and rendered the identified subgroups irrelevant to daily practice. Under district guidance, compliance with subgroup accountability was independent of the school's internal efforts to promote equity.  相似文献

This case examines how functionalist approaches manifest culturally based on users’ contexts. The authors conduct a critical visual semiotic analysis of the race and Hispanic origin questions on the 2010 U.S. Census form, demonstrating how incongruities in design potentially harm people. This demonstrates a need for adding critical analyses to design and research and it refocuses the Society for Technical Communication’s value of promoting the public good on to design and documentation in order to fight injustice.  相似文献   

Political and educational springboard or straitjacket? Theorising post/human subjects in an age of vulnerability

Contemporary discourses of social justice in education, disability, mental health, social policy and feminist studies are refracted increasingly through concerns about psychological and structural vulnerabilities created by the crises of late capitalism. Focusing on developments in British social policy generally and educational research specifically, this paper uses the authors' contrasting perspectives on two discernible discourses of vulnerability emerging in these contexts. One elevates the recognition of collective vulnerability as a springboard for new conceptualisations of resistance that disrupt materialist narratives of the human subject as a coherent, unified and rational agent of history. A second discourse offers a materialist understanding that locates vulnerability as both driver and product of a ‘therapeutic culture’, arguing that a psycho-emotional focus for vulnerability offers a diminished and ineffective subjectivity that belies rhetorics of resistance. These contrasting perspectives generate and emerge simultaneously from new understandings of the human subject. The paper evaluates the implications of using vulnerability to frame expectations of human subjects for everyday educational practices and relationships. It concludes by suggesting empirical questions that need exploring.  相似文献

采用GC／FTIR联用技术对一种纸用人造香料的组成进行了定性、定量鉴定。比较了不同色谱柱的分离效果，选择Supelco wax^TM-10色谱柱对该香料进行分离。采用红外光谱对香料组成进行了鉴定，确定该香料由28种组分组成，其主要成份为醛类、酯类、醚类、醇类化合物，此外还含有少量的酮类、酚类化合物。  相似文献   

Exploring a new silent test of phonological awareness

This is the preliminary study of a test of phonologicalawareness which does not require that subjects speak or hear toparticipate. The test was designed to minimize memory loads, and tomeasure speeded written naming and segmentation-by-sound. Spelling datacan also be collected. Subjects have 45 seconds to name items in each oftwo sets of line drawings. The average frequency of the names variesacross these sets. In the third set, subjects must name the items, andalso segment the written names into their constituent sounds. This taskwas administered to disabled and normally-reading adults, with twocommon tests of phonological awareness. The new test discriminatedbetween the readers as reliably as the benchmark tasks, correlating witheach better than they correlated with each other. The new test was thenadministered to deaf adults, who performed similarly to the disabled(hearing) readers. The data represent the first direct demonstration ofphonological abilities in deaf subjects, using a task designedspecifically for that purpose.  相似文献

三层结构模式在Web应用系统中广泛应用，但也存在不足之处：系统对网络环境完全依赖，网络资源利用不平衡．因此，从一个基于Web模式的训练教学系统的设计和实现过程，对Web三层结构提出了调整改进措施，在设计中构建了具有一定逻辑功能的Web页面数据单元，从而实现数据的重用性和系统设计的可移植性，并有效地解决了Web三层结构系统的不足之处．  相似文献

目的：评价顺铂辅助化疗联合放射治疗晚期子宫颈癌的疗效。方法：同期对比分析经放疗加顺铂化疗（放化组）60例和单纯放疗（单放组）60例Ⅲ期子宫颈癌患者5年生存率、局部控制率、远处转移率和并发症。结果：5年生存率放化组63.33%,单放组43.33%（P〈0.05）。局部控制率放化组80%,单放组60%（P〈0.05）。远处转移率放化组43.33%,单放组41.66%（P〉0.05）。放射性直肠炎：放化组13.33%,单放组10.00%（P〉0.05）。放射性膀胱炎放化组8.33%,单放组10.00%（P〉0.05）。无因治疗而引起的死亡发生。结论：放射治疗联合顺铂化疗能提高Ⅲ期子宫颈癌患者局部控制率和5年生存率,未改善远处转移率,副作用能耐受。  相似文献
