ABSTRACT

In the fall semester of 2016, Delaney Southwest Research Library at Fort Lewis College researched user experience, particularly of Native American undergraduate students. Results showed that Native American students were more concerned about appropriate terminology, representative content, and effective organization of the library than non-Native students were. This research will help the library improve services through collection evaluation, shelf rearrangement, library instruction, and, potentially, reclassification of Native American materials to improve browsability, house culturally sensitive material respectfully, and increase user satisfaction with our special collections.  相似文献

Augmented, virtual, and mixed reality applications all aim to enhance a user’s current experience or reality. While variations of this technology are not new, within the last few years there has been a significant increase in the number of artificial reality devices or applications available to the general public. This column will explain the difference between augmented, virtual, and mixed reality and how each application might be useful in libraries. The Health Sciences Library at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus implemented a user feedback campaign that successfully provided input about user needs. The library created an engaging marketing theme and employed a simple form to successfully solicit feedback from users. The program has been easy to replicate in subsequent years, and other health sciences libraries have been able to recreate the process at their institutions.  相似文献

Health literacy has been redefined in recent years to move beyond an individual’s own communication skills to include the skills of persons working within health care organizations, including librarians. Provision of consumer health services and resources, while a long-standing practice in hospital libraries, has also been redefined. As definitions of health literacy have evolved, so too have hospital librarian services as they embrace their role within health literacy. Many hospital medical and consumer health librarians have developed programs, services, and collaborations to further health literacy awareness, education, and initiatives for consumers, health care professionals, and their parent organizations.  相似文献   

Toward a Sustainable Method for Core Journal Lists: A Test Case Using Journals in Social Work

Determining the core journals in a discipline serves an important role for both academic librarians and departmental faculty. In addition to helping librarians build or weed journal collections, especially in difficult budget years, core lists help departments seeking accreditation, committees evaluating a candidate’s scholarship for tenure and promotion, and faculty choosing publications for their research. They also assist faculty guiding student research in the discipline. However, because of the inexorable changes that have occurred, and will continue to occur, in scholarly communication, no such list can be considered immutable. The purpose of this study is to identify a method by which individual librarians and/or libraries can create a list of journals considered important to a discipline, one that accurately reflects the state of scholarly communication in a field as it relates to the currency and quality of journal literature, and that is sustainable over time. More specifically, our purpose is twofold. First, to develop a sustainable method for defining the universe of potential core titles; and, second, to identify the core titles within that universe. As the result of discussions on this issue with a social work faculty member, the authors used social work journals for developing a methodology that may be applied to other disciplines.  相似文献

国内外高校图书馆学科服务的对比分析-基于国外iSchool联盟和国内“985”高校图书馆的调查

[目的/意义] 从我国高校图书馆的学科服务入手,找到与国外高校图书馆学科服务的异同点,发现我国学科服务的特点及与国外存在的差距,并提出相应建议,引导我国高校图书馆更好地开展学科服务。[方法/过程] 笔者采用调查分析和比较研究的方法,通过访问各高校图书馆主页以及与部分图书馆员联系,结合相关资料的查阅,分析该图书馆开展学科服务的情况并进行总结,从学科服务在门户网站上的所属路径、学科服务模式、学科服务平台、学科服务内容及学科馆员设置等几个方面进行对比分析。[结果/结论] 国内高校图书馆的学科服务建设程度整体上较为薄弱,但部分高校有其特色;国内外学科服务的内容相似,但在服务模式、学科服务平台的建设及学科馆员的设置存在差异。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 研究美国部分大学图书馆的数字学术支持现状,为国内大学图书馆开展数字学术支持提供参考和借鉴。[方法/过程] 采用典型案例分析法,对美国14所大学图书馆的数字学术支持情况进行考察,分析数字学术的概念、数字学术支持机构设置、数字学术支持的内容与形式等。[结果/结论] 美国大学图书馆在明确数字学术概念基础上,设立数字学术支持机构,以数字资源建设、数字项目建设及研究、数据策展、数字出版、数字人文项目研究等为数字学术支持核心内容,提供形式多样的数字学术支持。我国大学图书馆应设立数字学术支持机构,重视数字学术支持团队建设,重视图书馆数字学术空间建设,创新以数字学术为核心的图书馆服务。  相似文献
