Pretreatment of an ethanolic extract of leaf ofPiper betle linn at a dose of 200mg/kg body weight, orally administered to rats for ten consecutive days, was found to possess a significant
protective action against gastric lesions induced by indomethacin. The extract pretreatment resulted in significant increase
in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity, increase in mucus, hexosamine and total thiol group content, but
marked reduction in oxidatively damaged protein and peroxidised lipid levels as compared to untreated ulcerated control. The
extract was also found to possess both superoxide and hydroxyl free radical scavenging action. The present observations establish
the efficacy of the extract in prevention of experimentally induced peptic ulcer by indomethacin and antioxidant property
appears to be predominantly responsible for such cytoprotective activity in the experimental model. 相似文献

New technology adoption in US telecommunications: The role of competitive pressures and firm-level inducements 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this study we examine the reasons for the differential adoption levels of a new technology, that of electronic switching, across firms in the US telecommunications industry. Using theoretical postulates from the market-structure inducements approach to firm behavior, and the behavioral theory of the firm, we propose that the incentives to adopt a new technology are positively related to the competitive pressures faced by a firm in its micro-market, negatively related to past levels of performance, and positively related to slack availability. Our sample consists of 40 of the largest firms in the industry. We use firm-level data collected for the years 1973, 1978, 1981, 1984, and 1987, and the results indicate strong support for our proposition. Our findings show that, in general, market effects via the mechanism of competitive pressures generated are strong in explaining inter-firm variations in levels of technology adoption in the period since moves to deregulate the industry began; however, the firm-level effects are equally strong, if not stronger, in explaining such variations both in the period leading up to the commencement of deregulatory moves and also immediately thereafter. 相似文献

Increase in the concentration of several greenhouse gases in the atmosphere during the last few decades has warmed up the
atmosphere, a phenomena popularly known as ‘global warming’. There are people who believe that ‘global warming’ does not exist,
or will have negligible consequences on the earth and its biosphere, if at all it exists. Satellite record over the past few
decades have shown a slight cooling trend in the lower troposphere, casting a doubt on the existence of ‘global warming’.
During the same time, atmosphere near earth’s surface has shown a warming trend. Efforts are on to explain this temperature
anomaly and it may take time to say conclusively whether ‘global warming’ exists or not. 相似文献

We conducted a controlled study on effect of selected yoga practive in the control and management of 50 cases of essential hypertension and equal number of healthy (nonhypertensive) controls. Free radical cellular damage is considered to be the underlying common biological factor in essential hypertension. We, therefore, investigated lipid profile lipid peroxidation and Na+K+ ATPase activities of plasma membrane of subjects with essential hypertension. It was found that hypertensive subjects had an elevated lipid peroxidation and decreased Na+K+ ATPase activity in plasma membrane as compared to normotensive healthy controls, the specific yoga training protocol which was administered not only helped to decrease blood pressure but also retard the progression of ceellular damage due to free radicals. 相似文献

Manufacturing industry can improve its competitiveness through innovation and technological excellence, and appropriate Industrial Learning can help to achieve this goal through allowing the manufacturing workforce to acquire new skills related to the advanced developments in information and communication technologies. This raises the need for new Industrial Learning tools and methods from the viewpoint of learning content, learning processes, and delivery mechanisms. In this paper, we present a generic competence-based approach for Industrial Learning developed in the framework of ActionPlanT project. The approach is composed of (i) an Industrial Learning model which serves to represent and understand competence-based learning, and (ii) a methodology which implements through a number of steps the Industrial Learning actions defined using the Industrial Learning model in industrial organisations. Both the model and the methodology are presented in details. A metrics-based method for evaluating the implementation of the learning actions defined using the approach is also described. 相似文献
