This paper deals with the on-going practice of a critical action learning set who come together to meet their needs for coaching supervision as a group of executive coaches working from, and within, the University sector in South Wales. The reasons for the successes of, and the challenges around, this practice of four years standing have been articulated using an academic backdrop. The use of multi-factorial supervision has been heralded as being able to give a more rounded form of supervision which, despite its challenges, has, in this example, stood the test of time. Further data are required to try to understand if this form of supervision provides better coaching to the executive field in South Wales and beyond, and what can be learnt from the practice of supervision in general.  相似文献

This study is based on the expressed attitudes of practising teachers; it is claimed that this procedure may be more valid than the usual one of testing the attitudes of students or teachers on advanced courses. ‘Educational controversies’ refers to teachers’ attitudes to streaming, 11 plus selection and corporal punishment; scores on these scales were correlated with scores on the Oliver ‘Survey of Opinions’ scales and the ‘Study of Values’ scales. Suggested interpretations of the matrix of relationships are offered. A small group of teachers on a full‐time in‐service course completed the ‘educational controversies’ scales at the start and completion of their course: the scores changed to what is interpreted as a more ‘progressive’ pattern.  相似文献

Responses of 2,760 junior and senior high school students regarding their participation in nine outdoor recreation activities were used to assess the relationships between age, sex, and adolescent outdoor recreation patterns. Analysis of variance revealed that the age variable was statistically significant for eight of the nine activities at the .01 level. The sex variable was significant at the .01 level for five of the nine activities. The findings support previous researchers' conclusions that many traditionally male activities are no longer dominated by males. Differences in outdoor recreation participation among different age groups, within the adolescent life-cycle stage, suggest that it may be inappropriate for recreation opportunity providers to view adolescence as a homogeneous life-cycle stage.  相似文献

Conclusion Salem’s commitment to technology has not been without hard work, dedication, financial support, administrative leadership, and many hours of teacher staff development. Our commitment is beginning to reap rewards and results. This past February, the entire district staged a Technology Day, a day of multiple workshops in all the above technologies. Most of the workshop sessions were taught by our own teaching staff—teachers sharing their technical expertise with their colleagues. The district’s commitment to the importance of ongoing staff development is reflected in our strategic plan, which mandates the establishment of a Teacher Technology Training Team, whose title is self-explanatory. In fact, one of the mandates of the district’s strategic plan is to “infuse technology into every aspect of the learning process.” Salem is taking this mandate seriously.  相似文献

Abstract

Data on participation in 15 recreational activities were obtained from a sample of 2,760 junior and senior high school students. Interrelationships among activities were examined by use of a hierarchical clustering procedure for males and females within each of the following four age groups: 11–12, 13–14, 15–16, and 17–18.

The data indicated that the two a priori designated clusters of outdoor recreation and competitive recreation activities were of limited value for categorizing interrelated activities. However, the clustering procedures suggested that if the outdoor recreation and competitive recreation clusters were defined more narrowly, many of the activities within them did interrelate. A third group of activities emerged which had a very low relationship to the other two clusters and to each other. They were given the generic title “unique recreation activities” to indicate their relative independence.  相似文献

One of the most remarkable developments in British publishing for young people in the last decade was the emergence of several paperback series aimed at the “reluctant reader” market-teenagers who could read adequately, but who had found little to interest them in the fiction they had met. The way was pointed by Macmillan's Topliners, which remain the most successful series, publishing not only British titles but also American novels, such as Paul Zindel'sThe Pigman and Glendon Swarthout'sBless the Beasts and Children. Nelson's Getaways and Longmans' Knockouts have followed suit. Increasingly, these series have published authors who have written with their audience firmly in view. John Crompton has published three titles in Topliners:Up The Road and Back (1977), which follows the adventures, mainly sexual, of an adolescent boy hitchhiking from South-East England up to Scotland;Wild and Penned (1978), which is a compilation of animal stories by various authors, such as Gerald Durrell and Henry Williamson, who is John Crompton's favourite nature story writer and who is represented by four pieces; andA Fox Under My Bed (1979), which is an interlinked set of stories and reminiscences of his own adventures with animals and birds in the countryside of Hampshire and Kent. The purpose of this study was to identify variables or combinations of variables that are related to burnout in teachers of young children. The 353 participants were teachers who worked with young children more than 20 hours a week. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, a 22-item semantic differential measuring burnout, and a questionnaire about personal and job characteristics were administered to the subjects. A factor analysis, one-way analyses of variance, and maximum regression were used to analyze data. The factor analysis showed that the Maslach Burnout Inventory measures burnout and competence of teachers. The variables which account for burnout and competence are discussed.  相似文献
