An understanding of current views of the nature of science continues to be regarded as an important outcome of school science. Studies of the conceptions of the nature of science held by primary school teacher education students is therefore important. This article reports the conceptions held by 73 preservice primary teachers. There were elements in the conceptions of the nature of science articulated by this group which clearly were not in accord with modern views. For example, one in five, in many instances, chose responses which would be unacceptable to many modern philosophies of science. Further, many chose 'don't know' as a response to a variety of specific propositions about science, ranging from a low of 1.5% to 3.15% of respondents. The responses of school leavers and mature age students did not differ in any substantial way. In addition, the use of newspaper science reports is described as a novel means to probe conceptions of the nature of science. 相似文献

The main objective of this research was to review the characteristics of portfolios and their outcomes for teaching professionalism to undergraduate medical students. A systematic review on the use of portfolios in teaching professionalism to medical students identified 1257 papers. Of these, 11 articles met all inclusion criteria. According to the papers, the use of portfolios for teaching professionalism shows versatility, supports learning strategies and has the potential to be used in different contexts, including for formative and summative purposes. The weaknesses were based on the artificiality of the reflections, deficient instructions, time-consuming processes and preference among students for other teaching methods. Students complained about feeling that the reflection was ‘forced’, and they tended to write based on social conventions rather than reveal their true thoughts. Reflection is a powerful component of the portfolio, but the method by which it is taught could easily ruin its potential to boost professionalism. Requiring reflection did not ensure its achievement; increased understanding by students regarding how and why they were doing it, the clarity of assessment methods and constructive feedback might strengthen the potential for success. A case is made in this paper for using checklists and context‐bound evaluations of online learning materials in higher education. Context‐bound evaluations complement traditional forms of evaluation of educational courseware, such as checklists. Context‐bound approaches are useful for indicating the pedagogical quality of online learning materials that may be productively used in conjunction with checklists to evaluate online learning. Edith Cowan University has developed a framework and checklists for assessing aspects of online pedagogical learning materials in higher education. These checklists, which are intended to be useful indicators of the areas where online learning materials are strong and to identify areas that may be deficient, and are a valuable screening and information gathering device to use when undertaking a context‐bound evaluation of learning materials. As such, the quality of the instructional design remains an important consideration in evaluating courseware, and such information needs to be presented in a form that is accessible and useful for educational developers and researchers. Comment and dissent is invited on the value of contextual evaluations to reinvigorate the debate over appropriate ways of evaluating online learning materials in higher education. 相似文献

Many introductory biochemistry students have problems understanding metabolism and acquiring the skills necessary to study
metabolic pathways. In this paper we suggest that this may be largely due to the use of a traditional teaching approach which
emphasises memorisation rather than understanding. We present an alternative approach to teaching carbohydrate metabolism
which is designed to promote understanding of pathways. The approach also enables regular monitoring of, and reflection on,
student progress and the identification of student reasoning and conceptual difficulties through the use of specially designed
problems. Preliminary results are presented giving examples of specific student difficulties and the extent to which they
were addressed by the alternative instructional approach. A qualitative evaluation of the approach is also presented.

This paper examines social coordination by the Brazilian Black Movement in the area of Brazilian education. It explains how these developments relate to the construction of race-based public education policies in the country. Focus goes to the process of creation and implementation of law 10.639 in Brazilian Basic education. Using the concept ‘diffuse governance’, the argument is made that at present it are the multiple actions by the Brazilian Black Movement, in diverse arenas of dispute, and interacting with a range of actors, that enable us to understand the social coordination/regulation in the process of constructing and implementing Law 10.639. 相似文献

Abstract This aim of this study was to analyse the nature of movement variability and to assess whether entropy measures may represent a valuable synthetic index of neuromuscular organization. The regularity of kinematic/kinetic time series during race walking, the changes in the structure of intra-individual variability over the test session, and the influence of athletic skill in (inter)national rank athletes were investigated. Motion analysis techniques were used. Sample entropy (SampEn) was adopted to examine fluctuations in lower limb angles and ground reaction forces. The regularity of both original and surrogate time series was assessed and compared, by estimating SampEn, to verify the presence of non-linear features in movement variability. SampEn was statistically lower in the original data than in surrogates. In contrast, the regularity of time series did not change significantly throughout the subsequent intra-individual repetitions. Hip and ankle joint angles and vertical ground reaction force manifested increased entropy for skilled athletes. Results suggest that race walking variability was not only the product of random noise but also contained information about the inherent propriety of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system. Furthermore, they provide some indications about neuromuscular control of the lower limb joints during race walking gait, and about the differences between more and less skilled individuals. 相似文献

The use of problem-solving in science instruction implies a change in the teacher's role from dispensing content information
to encouraging critical reflective thinking in the student. For problem-solving to become an integral part of the science
curriculum, teachers must make it the focus of their instruction. This study investigated the extent to which pre-service
primary teachers used the problem-solving approach in their science instruction. It also identified the factors affecting
their efforts to teach science using this approach. The issues considered are important in whether problem-solving becomes
part of the science curriculum, as teaching behaviour influences student learning outcomes.

Teachers have a central role in developing new learning models in schools. This paper describes a study that explored teachers’ confidence and competence in using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as they participated in an ICT development project conducted by an Australian education system in 12 primary schools. The project aimed to develop ICT integrated teaching practices by providing in‐class equipment and teacher professional development in ICT use, curriculum development and teaching strategies. The study used qualitative data from teacher records of Professional Development and Action Learning to identify three of four stages proposed to describe teachers’ ICT learning. Teachers moved from gaining basic ICT skills, to conducting ICT‐focused lessons and eventually appropriate ICT integration. Teachers who progressed to the third stage were able to exploit additional learning opportunities and begin to make fundamental changes to their pedagogy, but needed more time to reach the final stage of challenging existing pedagogical structures. 相似文献
